September 18, 20213 yr Part of Johnson's winter plan is to end free Covid tests from January. If school staff continue to test twice a week (as we are expected to do at the moment), the cost will have to be paid either by the school (with no matching increase in their funding) or by the staff.

I think he’d quite like schools to stop testing and this will be his dishonest way of getting there. I will need a pay rise if I’m expected to buy these tests regularly.
September 18, 20213 yr I'm pretty sure in Europe they are beginning to make people pay for lateral flow tests too? Not saying I agree with it, but at some point we have to move away. I'd advocate them to be free as long as we're testing in schools, but for everyone else to pay for them. Think the lateral flow tests will be phased out anyway, I'm sure the NHS are piloting a different form of rapid testing.
September 18, 20213 yr Yeah! Ours go paid from the Middle of next month I think. But Europe’s is part of a carrot & stick approach to getting folks vaxxed as the tests are required for entry to places and that unlike in England where they’re for fun/peace of mind. I don’t mind the end of the free test, it’s been a vital weapon in our fight but now there’s no reason that folks shouldn’t be vaccinated by now and the tests are less than a Euro each If you wanna do a quick one for safety

Why should someone who has been vaccinated have to pay £60 per week as part of their job?
September 18, 20213 yr For a lateral flow? They’re 0,80€ a test in the supermarket. That’s our free tests. PCR tests remaining free and only for those with symptoms or suspected infection. And under our current regs, companies are responsible for testing their staff free twice a week if they Go into the premises. I get two Covid self tests a week off work. Vaccinated individuals are exempt from the need to test here tho. Not the best plan but then again our numbers are like 10x lower than the UKs so the chances of a vaxxed person being exposed is so much less.

You are confusing a government that is interested in the welfare of its population with a regime that concentrates on lining the pockets of its backers.
September 18, 20213 yr Yes, I read that each lateral flow test costs the English government "between £5 and £30", like how does that estimation vary so much and why on earth is even the minimum estimate over five times that of the French pharmacy price. Cowboys.
September 19, 20213 yr I mean isn’t this just going to make everyone stock up on the free boxes they can get at the minute? Nothing to stop me getting a box or two a week until the new year.
September 19, 20213 yr Wait 30£ for a lateral flow?!? What the f***!!!!! That is just blatant profiteering Now. They’re like 0,50€ each wholesale, if that.
September 19, 20213 yr Introduction of Germany’s 2-G means I’ll have to wait a month before being able to go to a club as my registration appointment is in 3 weeks. I think I might choose J&J as it’s one shot, plus I was already vaccinated with Sputnik lmao
September 19, 20213 yr What’s the health care like overall in Germany? Is it all through your employment?

I think I might choose J&J as it’s one shot, plus I was already vaccinated with Sputnik lmao Don’t need registration in order to get a vax. Most places are offering walk in appts and a bunch will do even tourists. https://www.berlin.de/aktuelles/berlin/6834...pfangebot-.html - the Alexa centre at Alexanderplatz is doing J&J on a walk in basis. Will probably be one closer to home too What’s the health care like overall in Germany? Is it all through your employment? It’s not linked to work, it’s like a hybrid of the British and American system. It’s heavily state regulated and it’s costs are a % of income up to a cap but there’s like 170 different insurers and you can go private for better coverage but it’s so hard to get back into the state system if you opt out. It’s super decentralised so there’s defo a lot of money wasted IMO on duplication of admin and paper in general but the system has a massive amount of capacity to the extent that even during the worst of COVID the hospitals haven’t struggled and are still operating as normal. I got a referral to dermatology through in 2 wks which I thought was pretty good Welcome to the UK pal... If money can be made, money will be made and f*** everybody else. Thanks but am well aware, I am British
October 3, 20213 yr We're very upset here as wife's niece in Philippines, 48, has died of Covid. :( She was double-jabbed too. Hasn't had it long and was only in hospital 4 days. She had a top job at Morgan Stanley in the US. She was very high risk as she was very very overweight. Edited October 3, 20213 yr by common sense
October 5, 20213 yr Sorry to hear that common sense. That's why I believe the government should have asked the pharmaceutical companies to make a booster vaccine based on the delta variant, not sure why they didn't do that.
October 7, 20213 yr Out tonight, maskless, for the first time since this Covid stuff started. First time I’ve had to use the vax passport properly for a night out (normally I use it at the gym) and it was all really well organised and with the event being 2G (vaxxed and recovered only) it felt ok safety wise just really weird to not be masked up and to be unmasked and not keeping distance and rocking out to live music. It felt really nice
October 7, 20213 yr Over 40,000 new cases today, must be the highest figure in quite a while! Not too long ago, was over 40,000 on September 6th. Been around ~35k since. There's been a big uptick in covid cases in secondary schools recently from what I was reading. Plus we''ve had proper autumn weather recently/we're getting closer to winter. I wouldn't be surprised to see cases 50k+ by the end of the month.
