Yes but remember last August when zero people were vaccinated and pretty much all restrictions were lifted (barring clubs etc. which I doubt is the sole reason for the high numbers now) the deaths were in single digits most days.

 

If supposedly 90%+ of the population has antibodies from either prior infection or the vaccine and presumably the majority unvaccinated are young/otherwise healthy anyway then there are going to be serious questions asked if the deaths sky-rocket in Autumn as they did last year.

 

The virus was coming from a much lower standing point though, I think we had got to cases in the hundreds whereas now the cases were in the 30,000+.

 

It's inevitable there will be some form of restrictions come the autumn/winter, but I suspect they will be minimal and we will be advised to limit contact where possible. I just hope the Government have some form of plan for how to deal with this come September..

One of the politicians in the German Gov said the other week that Delta was so much more infectious than the wild type we were dealing with last summer that the population will be divided in two groups pretty soon. Folks that are vaccinated and folks that caught delta. There will not be a third group.

A little more gradual a rise than in some other countries but we also still have a lot more restrictions in terms of masks, distance and that as well as Vax passports backed by a testing regime. Judging by their record (including, now, Afghanistan), I'd say the chances of the government having any sort of plan are close to zero.

Yeah I can see that, I think it is the same here too. I guess as our bodies deal with it a 3rd and 4th team the immunity will be stronger. I also guess the UK has a much larger natural immunity which might see us through the autumn/winter. I just cannot see any way we have another lockdown personally, famous last words perhaps but I feel at this point things would have to be pretty serious to justify one as you will lose the public re vaccines.

 

Similarly I look at the situation in Australia and New Zealand - while they have undoubtedly handles the pandemic really well and are trying to get through the next 2 months before spring/summer arrives, I can't help but feel they are just putting off the inevitable at this stage.

They tried to do the same with the BBC a couple weeks ago. However, in a sign of just how dim they are, they went to Television Centre which the BBC left several years ago.

A 35 year old woman in NI died from Covid during her pregnancy of her child this weekend her baby thankfully survived and was baptised on the same day of her funeral. Such a sad story!

Cranks yes but them and lockdown deniers are very much encouraged (either subtly or blatantly) by large portion of our right wing press and by the right wing political establishment just like climate emergency deniers. In the USA they are almost the entirety of the Republican party. These people will be responsible for death and destruction on such an epic scale.

I just read that. The positivity rate of all cases recorded in the last 24 hours was 14.5%

 

That's a really big increase on only a week ago. Still not entirely unexpected though.

Even if you have 100% of the population jabbed, they aren't going away since they give the government a great deal of control which they love, and they will use the "vaccinated people still infect people" excuse to keep them implemented. It will only be expanded, I mean they are only stalling their measures so that people wont notice how much things are changing. You cant implement tyranny overnight, its a slow process, but even I'm shocked at how gutsy they've been, far quicker than expected. I remember how vax passports was also a "right wing conspiracy theory" last year yet here we are. Seems to me conspiracy theorists should just be renamed to "ahead of their time".
