Call me a cynic but I can't help feeling they are deliberately getting some things wrong so that they can them claim to be "a listening government" by making a U-turn.

You'd think they would lean into that more, rather than send the circumlocutionist onto breakfast TV to make a fool of himself and them.

They got 44%, so no :) Also, with an impartial media, how well do you think your beloved Tories would do? :)

You mean Jeremy Corduroy wasn't a gutless arsewipe after all?

The pain they have put people through before this U turn is unforgivable. Sadly one in a long line of unforgivable things

He was the best PM we never had and has been proven right again and again.

Whilst it’s great that the people scored another victory, it’d be much nicer if we didn’t have to be at war with our politicians in the first place because they actually had enough human decency to try and do the right thing from the start.

Indeed. Well done to Marcus Rashford (again) and Jack Monroe — the absolute state of this government and the opposition.

If Johnson and co. got more decisions right in the first place, they wouldn’t have to make endless U-turns.

Just out of interest who put this policy in place for this outcome?

You mean Jeremy Corduroy wasn't a gutless arsewipe after all?

Look at the history of his positions over the past 40 years and again and again he’s been proved right in all his left wing positions....

No. You're too young to know that John Smith was the best PM we never had.

Look at the history of his positions over the past 40 years and again and again he’s been proved right in all his left wing positions....

Thank God he never held a Cabinet position. :)

Thank God he never held a Cabinet position. :)

it's funny how Jeremy is constantly slated by either you centre lefts / Torys but he has literally been one of the most loyal and caring politicians this country has ever seen and yet that was a bad thing? I will still never understand the hate he gets- he was a pacifist? I don't see Boris leading the charge lmao. Or Theresa.. or David. Tory's are just as gutless but at least Jeremy had a cause.

Meanwhile we got Boris and his team responsible for nearly 100,000 deaths and starving kids. You can be snarky all you want but at least we're not supporting a party that has killed thousands of its own people and deported god knows how many back to dangerous living conditions.

I think it's very fair to say that a Corbyn government (or indeed, most Labour governments) would have absolutely not had a ditherer refusing to answer questions about why they voted against free school meals, nor would they have had such an issue in the first place.

The media who built up such a resistance to him have a lot to answer for.

On this issue in particular though, Starmer is doing much what I'd have expected Corbyn to do in opposition, if only because of his latest line that Labour is a party of the family.

Thank God he never held a Cabinet position. :)

circumlocutionist

Yes, of course, good job Boris does though cos he is a right laugh!

Get in the sea.

Ah, yes, the Tories are all to blame for the people who think they are above everyone else and don't bother following rules.

We've seen with this pandemic that many are unable to go without drink and drugs for any length of time, which has contributed to the virus being spread as addicts have found other ways to get their fix. And because they are so junked up they can't follow social distancing guidelines even if they wanted to.

Instead of wearing face masks in shops, some individuals have gone without because in the event of them being asked to put on a mask they can say they have breathing problems and not be challenged on it.

"A love ma turkey dinner" was the latest cry as people mingled with various members of their family for Christmas, not one of them knowing if they have the virus or not ("but a don't huv symptoms..."). Brilliant. 10 more people get infected.

A Labour government would have made absolutely no difference to the situation as these degenerates exist no matter what.

Well yes, they are. They didn't implement restrictions quick enough and then they themselves spent a good few weeks breaking their own rules. So YES, they are completely to blame. Giving us mixed rules, not enforcing masks in public spaces, allowing anti-maskers to roam freely spouting their nonsense, it is completely their fault.

Perhaps if Torys didn't slash mental health budgets and put effort into rehabilitation these people would be more stable, too bad 10 years of Tory cuts have just completely decimated our mental health service.

Again, perhaps if they made it LAW to wear one. The "exemption" rule is FAR too loose. These things are all the torys fault, not sure what you are trying to say here?

These "degenerates" have been enabled by a BAD government with an absolute bumbling fool for a leader who can't even get through a coherent press conference.

Labour would have done FAR better. FAR better with Jeremy as PM in this situation, even if people did break the rules, he at least had a heart and he conveyed it well that he genuinely cared, not telling people that we should be prepared for death. Not mixing his own rules up in a press conference.

Anymore?

A Labour government would have made absolutely no difference to the situation as these degenerates exist no matter what.

A counterfactual that cannot be proven, though indeed the Labour government did equally badly (if not worse) in Wales. However looking at other countries, in New Zealand the Labour Party there did rather well...

Therefore it *is* possible that it could have been handled better - y'know, better than oh I don't know 2nd worst death rate and economic impact in Europe.
