I think Ed should be pretty safe for #1 given how the Spotify gap has narrowed. It’s a good song so I’m not complaining - reminds me a lot of Cry For You by September though.

ed sheeran is doing a lot to be number 1 so it doesn’t look like he’s fallen off. yes it’s done better than a lot of songs first week but bad habits has performed terrible compared to his other leads so he’s fallen off for his standards and you can tell he’s trying to gain back popularity by being ‘quirky’ with the whole emo music video cos today’s society likes stuff like that

Congratulations, you have discovered that Spotify is a much larger platform than Apple Music and iTunes xx

I don't think there is any need for the sarky comments. I think it's clear that the other platforms are becoming more popular anyway.

but they aren't... every week we see songs going top 10 on Apple alone and just barely make the top 100 come Friday

and the #1 on iTunes is not even doing 500 sales a day...

Yeah you have to look at all the methods, as seen in the initial example when I said that the YouTube numbers were also having a big impact (rather than just saying some unhelpful comment).

you're the only one with this point on here

congrats too :D

Apple and Amazon do actually have much bigger shares of the market than they did a couple of years back, but Spotify is still the top dog.

There are only 5000 copies of Ed's CD single though I believe. They could've easily flogged more at 99p, so it can't just be desperation to get a #1.

The signed ones are already sold out.

Wasn’t the 5k number for those distributed to HMV and Amazon, so not including the two signed 99p cd batches from his website?

It does seem a bit desperate, especially considering those people that bought the full priced unsigned ones from HMV/Amazon and the 59p drop. I echo what some others have said about midweek price drops so early on after release. Stuff like that only impacts the fans that invest in supporting a song/album on day 1.

Appreciate he cares about the charts though, not many artists show a passion for it like us chart followers. Wish more of my fave acts did follow it a bit more and made an effort when they see an opportunity like this.

All here for Jack Savoretti getting #1 on the album front. Not sure if that lead will be enough against Olivia’s streaming for the remainder of the week.

For reference, Ed has "only" sold 1,260 CDs this week, and that's an increase of just 194 since yesterday. I expect not all orders have been processed yet so there'll be a few more to come but the CDs aren't really making any difference at all right now.

good update for Savoreti, seems like he's not that front loaded so should do >20K and grab that #1

congrats to Ed's label, think they got it this week

They've just shown Ed Sheeran in the crowd at Wembley sat next to David Beckham, honestly the lengths he's going to for promotion in his first sales week :kink:

Also... for what it's worth, I don't mind Ed's push to get the #1. It is a bit desperate, yes, and he really doesn't need to do it given his previous levels of success but it's kinda nice that an artist actually cares.
