now that I've heard the Gaga album I understand totally why she's flopping, she's totally clueless about how to sing a jazz album

Gaga doesn't sing, she shouts and over-sings screaming all songs at the top of her lungs from beginning to end

that's how you do Glee the Musical but that's not how you do a jazz album

this is how Jessie J would do a jazz album :D

You don't have property to say that Lady Gaga doesn't know how to sing jazz, but the specialized critics can and the album was well received by them (72 on metacritic with 7 reviews). We all know she can sing well whatever she wants and she's proven it countless times to the point that it's become boring.

Gaga could record the sounds of her going to the toilet and it would still get a 9-38-67-160 chart run like this is going to have. It's not like she's bringing jazz to the mainstream or changing the game with it. It's just her usual hard-core fans (minus the sane ones) buying it.

Regarding Gaga shouting, watch the performance of New York New York from 2015, and then the recent one from last week. The difference is remarkable.

And even in 2015 she got a standing ovation and I need to read that Lady Gaga can't sing jazz in 2021. Cotton swabs are so cheap.

He planned for the early date to make sure he gets some weeks in at #1, so i don't think he'll be TOO mad lol.

It means he won't get 17 weeks consecutively at #1 even if with different songs which I believe is his desire.

Hopefully he gets knocked off next week anyway so somebody else gets the briefest look in before Adele comes to dominate everything.

Did Ed Sheeran actually say he wanted that or is it another of these ones

Two fantastic albums <3 It's odd because she's still touring and doesn't keep a low profile or anything, so I'm not sure what the major wait is. There must surely be a plan for a third album soon, I can't see it doing as well as the first two because of the massive gap, but I'm sure Radio 2 will still support her.

Although this article from 2018 is interesting on her thought processes: https://www.brightonandhoveindependent.co.u...est-tour-568388

That is interesting!! She’s a fantastic touring artist and her shows are always really good value and have such an infectiously happy vibe. You can tell she loves it

She is not flopping and you sound mad and jealous.

I'm like 99% sure this is just a throwaway observation one person made on here a few weeks ago and then everyone else has taken for granted that it must be something he is definitely trying to do and will be mad if he doesn't.

Given how chart-obsessed we know he is it's really not much of a stretch to assume that he definitely will be aware of the record and therefore would want to go for it. After all he released Shivers very conveniently on the week Bad Habits was due for ACR and would have fallen behind Girls Want Girls.

Having said that I'm all for him going for the record and want to it see it broken. Of all people I'd rather it wasn't Adele looking likely to put pay to that plan but hey, it's just as much an interesting story as when someone will actually be able to knock Ed off the top spot given his reign thus far.

Yeah but when you extrapolate his thoughts & views like this you start to invent patterns through confirmation bias where this could just be a coincidence. Major label releases are planned weeks in advance after all.

It's a non-purpose niche record anyway. Might as well gloat that Ed Sheeran doesn't hold the record for the ginger artist with the most consecutive years with the #1 selling album, I bet he's REALLY been gunning for that one. Also "Afterglow" was released when it was to deliberately get to #2 and no higher, so he doesn't have a 'flop' #1 hit.

It's not a stretch to say that the timing of the releases of the 'Bad Habits' remix and 'Shivers' were probably intentionally aimed at keeping himself at #1 long enough to end up replacing himself at #1. It's considerably more of a stretch to suggest that he was specifically aiming for 17 weeks at #1 to beat Bryan Adams, considering the Bryan Adams record is for most consecutive weeks at #1 for a song and there is no evidence that anyone outside a few people on BuzzJack consider it in any way significant if an artist beats Bryan Adams' reign with 2 different songs. The OCC themselves have made no mention of it as far as I am aware - their last two articles about 'Shivers' have only said that it was its 2nd and 3rd weeks at #1, not that it was Ed's 13th and 14th weeks in a row. Maybe more of a big deal will be made of it when he gets to that 16th week but there's no sign of that yet.

Whilst I agree with most of this I wouldn't say it's a non-purpose record. A lot of noise was made when Black Eyed Peas managed 26 consecutive weeks at #1 in America across 2 songs in 2009. Even when Lil Nas X broke the record for longest consecutive reign with one song a few years back, BEP's record was brought up. As was Usher's record of total weeks at #1 in 2004.

Breaking such a record with one, two or however many songs is still a massive achievement. A lot of it could indeed be down to the stars aligning at the right time yes but I'm sure Ed more than anyone else knows the quirks of the current chart rules so on top of another inevitably successful album campaign why wouldn't he seek the extra gloss and statistics where possible.

I'm sure he would be happy to break the record, it's just a bit silly that people keep acting as if he's going to be distraught if he doesn't

Oh wow!

I wonder how much was available! That was so quick :cheeseblock:

A #1 is a #1 album, the amount of weeks at #1 don't REALLY matter to many, Ed will get an easy #1 and now will probably get another Christmas #1, so I'm sure he'll be very happy. Obviously I'm sure he'd have been very upset if Adele had released earlier and blocked his chances but that won't happen.
