[tongue in cheek]How inconsiderate not to let Ed break the 16 weeks at #1 record![/tongue in cheek]

Edited by jimwatts

My only prediction is that someone will unironically call it a flop within one week of release no matter how well it does. (I have a feeling it's being a little overestimated but then the fact so many of her old songs are now showing up again on Spotify is a good sign of streaming interest in it at least for the first day + I expect it will pull in very strong pure sales by current standards no matter what the song sounds like)
My prediction is that it will be #1 until the week before Christmas. Then Mariah Carey will replace it.
Do you guys think that the chances of All I Want For Christmas Is You being at #1 this year are hell of a lot lower than they were last year?

It will obviously get enormous first-week sales on name alone and a surefire number 1 for a week at least, but predicting its long term chart run does depends on general response and if the song is well received, Q4's a lot more competitive than the rest of the year so it's not like it can just cruise at the top with little competition like Bad Habits did. Saying that, I'm relatively confident she can still pull it off, it's not like she rushes her material too often, she runs out of ideas!

Anything that stops the Sheeran getting a record is good by me x

but why you all say Ed is gonna beat Bryan Adams record?

Breaking the record with 2 songs instead of 1 is not really the same lol :D

and despite being full on Q4, the competition is not very strong, Shivers is doing lacklustre figures, not even 400K on Spotify most of the day---

It'd still be the longest any one artist has spent at #1 consecutively though so it is noteworthy

How long has Ed Sheeran been number one for? I haven't been paying much attention to the charts for a while.
Love it if Adele deliberately chose that week to remind him who the Queen Bee of the UK charts is!

So it might have seemed, but actually in 10 of the 11 weeks Bad Habits was #1, the #2 songs (good 4 u, Clash, Stay and Girls Want Girls) did more than 53k.

Whereas in the 13 weeks of Q4 last year, 53k would have been more than the #1 did in all but 2 of them (positions 1st week and Christmas week).

He’s been at #1 for 14 weeks in a row so far (11 weeks with Bad Habits, and 3 weeks with Shivers).

I think so. I think the daily streams were down significantly last year compared to the previous years despite Mariah securing the top spot for the first time. I wonder has AIWFC finally reached peak saturation...although I should never underestimate Spotify's target audiences apetities to stream the same thing over and over again indefinitely or to blindly listen to whatever the playlist algorithms tell them to listen to......

Just on Adele's new song...if its like Hello or Skyfall (both which I found underwhelming), I'm not sure it will have an extended run at the top but if it's like her brilliant 21 album chart toppers RITD or SLY, then I would expect a lengthy stay at the top!

Actually, the daily streams of Christmas songs last year were at an all time high.

Even though RITD never made the top?

And surely SLY and Hello aren't exactly a million miles apart in terms of their sound anyway.

Hello was amazing

but I agree Skyfall was beyond bad

I don't think anyone could beat Adele but turns out her single is out 15th October and Måneskin's is out this Friday (8th October) so no first week battle there after all!

If Måneskin's single really takes off and could sneak a week at #1 before Adele that would be quite nice.

Have to say I agree the Ed record isn’t really impressive to me because as you say it’s with two different tracks whereas ‘Eveything I Do’ was 16 weeks at number one so it’s different, still impressive all the same!

So 15th is confirmed then, hope it’s a great comeback for Adele!
