Why on earth are R1 playing this week's chart rather than the EoY one which would surely be of more interest? Agreement with the OCC?

I would imagine it's to do with the fact they've given University radio presenters the chance to present this chart the last few years; making them do an entire EOY might be a tad stressful.

Disclaimer: it’s still Christmas until January 6th so there should be no issues with this weeks chart being full of Christmas songs.

Agreed!!

Ghostbusters gets nowhere near number 1 and it is like 4 Halloween songs and loads of current hits.

The OCC hate this week I'm sure where they have to make positive articles about songs no one is listening to any more.

You've very adamant that the OCC hate this week when there's literally nothing to suggest they do.

The chart reflects the past 7 days, it's literally the way it's designed.

i think they're hiding this weeks chart because they don't want people to know the amount of people who bought westlife for christmas and inspire people to keep adelle off the top spot

Apart from whoever controls their social media being active (retweeting things) as well as promoting NMF yet we cant get any update about this weeks chart. Whoever is controling it must be actively working too as you cant pre-program a retweet of something 1 day old.

There isn't a single tweet about this weeks singles chart as far as I can tell but several tweets a day.

As I've said this weeks chart in the words of Alanis Morissette will be under rug swept.

If Chris Rea goes top 10 for the first time tomorrow they will surely tweet that?

I think it's likely that the OCC have a social media/marketing team who are independent from the team who actually compile the charts? That would explain why they still have a social media presence but are unable to comment on what the chart's looking like this week.

They cant even whip up a who will be number 1 in the last chart of 2021 with a list of contenders and a plug for the chart tomorrow? You or I could do that without seeing any sales figures that is unless we don't want to list a load of Xmas songs that might be number 1 on Decemeber 31st, all of which have already been number 1 any way.

It's Christmas week and OCC are likely running on skeleton staff, how DARE they not post info about midweeks they've not actually posted (because of a double bank holiday at the start of the week)?
Some of us are old enough to remember that the OCC rarely ever gave any updates on this chart week even when it wasn’t full of Christmas songs. It’s never been an interesting chart week.
Have we ever (in recent memory) had a week where we’ve had no midweeks at all? I seem to remember last year we got at least a couple of updates between Christmas and new year?

It wasn't bank holiday Wed or today. Not sure what your point is?

This is the first year Christmas Eve has fallen on a Friday since that became the chart day, so it's the first time *ever* where the next working day after last week's Friday chart is as late as Wednesday. As their mids are usually Monday or Tuesday at the latest, it's understandable they haven't deemed a full update worthwhile after that, nor a mini update since the #1 contenders are all former #1s as you say.

Who really cares when the charts are such a right off as they will be this week? If there's one week of the year we have to miss out on midweeks I would choose this one. The only interesting things at all will be a. Exactly how far ahead of Wham, Ed/Elton are b. How far LadBaby will drop and c. What the 2nd/3rd highest non-Christmas songs are.

That was my point, not the OCC couldn't do a chart update or mids or a mini update but why would they want to? This week I'm sure they rather keep as low key as possible.

Exactly. Why would they be bothered to go to the effort when there is basically nothing of interest to report.

But not because they’re embarrassed. More because it’s not interesting.
