Speculation that if the polls narrow with a new PM and England win the World Cup, PM Truss will use the feel-good factor to go to the country next Feb/March.

She is an absolute moron if she does that.

Well considering the potentially victorious England players absolutely HATE the Tories and aren't shy about letting them know that either, trying to piggy back on a World cup win would be the most stupidest idea in history. Plus a World cup win isn't going to pay £500 a month energy bills anyway.

Going for an early Gen Election turned out well for Theresa May so I'm all in favour of it. Especially while inflation will be, what, potentially 15% by then and hordes of voters still dying from bad winter Covid, and Truss will have been able to do nothing about it. Sounds like Tory rags trying to make Trussed-Up being PM into something hopeful.

Bring it on! :teresa:

So Sunak who is doing extremely badly in the contest has had to come up with a strategy in order to try to save the day as he's been losing to Truss. And guess what he does - a war on "Woke"! With rather sinister references around LGBTQ+ issue- focussing on how they teach issues of sex and relationships so that pupils are “shielded from inappropriate material”. Section 28 anyone? I wouldn't be surprised by the end of the contest the candidates will have built concentration camps. Instead of blaming themselves for their incompetence, diabolical ecoomic policy, Brexit for their many failures.

And I was slightly sympathetic to the Non Dom tax avoiding, covid law breaking man a few weeks back when he was getting the hatchet job. Not good.

Well, I have been suggesting for some years that methods of achieving goals not discouraged by Stonewall (not dealing sensibly with issues like shutting down debate, not discouraging attacking people online, people losing their jobs thanks to dodgy "non-advice" to employers about what is actually legal and what isn't) would be counter-productive and unhelpful to the cause, cos people just stop talking publicly about stuff and vote right-wing and suddenly it's all a big shock. Winning support depends on convincing the majority (who have at least a 10 to 1 majority let's be honest), and the way to do that is talk nicely and be reasonable, factual and tolerant in the face of people who express views that should easily be dismantled in an open debate, and you can trust the Tories to may hay on any gift by appealing to their core-"we want to go back 50 years" nostalgic fanbase who just see headlines in the rags.

The Tory Party in it's current form is not salvageable, IMO, it's so right-wing there will never be a better opportunity for Labour to form the next government, and it doesn't matter who leads the party, they've proved themselves to be a party of liars and dumping Johnson doesnt change that. Keep repeating that till the next election and throw their own promises back in their face, and at least try and give the appearance that Labour is a united party, cos that's the main danger for another Tory win.

What a desperate, desperate man. Going after the Equality Act? Pathetic.

It's all getting dangerously close to Section 28.

LOL. England aren't winning, girstñy, and remember Mad May? Eek! She alresdy tried that one, and she wss buoyrd by Brexshit and centrist sabotage and the entire state attacking Corbyn ;) The obly difference is Cirbyn was genuinely popular in 2017, begore the full-on undemocrstic British state attack and Brexshit poison. Torymer is not and has no policies, but even then, Mad May did it...

500£ a month energy bills are absolutely SHOCKING. This evil government has to go. It's like something from dystopian sci-fi!!

please let the tories go to the polls after a winter of doing nothing about energy bills

Rishi closing in on Truss in the Tory member polls after she opened her mouth - she is absolutely hopeless. God help us if she gets another 5 years.

What do you mean by this?

Latest YouGov has Truss on 60 and Sunak on 26. So she would have it in the bag. The only thing that may count in Sunak's favour is that there seems to be a security delay in sending out ballots and Truss obviously had an atrocious day today with her public sector levelling down U turn.

Horrendous day for her today, just shows the danger of both the two main parties process of electing their leader. Absolutely no levelling up is happening under Truss, so can’t see a way the north supports her again and she began to completely alienate the South-West marginals. Regional pay structure have merit but not for the entirety of the public services and goes absolutely no way to addressing the larger issues. MPs as always would be best looking at their own house in terms of expenses etc. and value for taxpayer money.

They are both so desperate for personal power that they will say anything they make up on the cuff with no forethought on consequences except the only one they care about: Tory Party members. It was a total LOL though that MP's and party members were the ones that pointed out the "savings" would only come from pay freezes on those terrible wastrels nurses and doctors, teachers and local government staff who have already endured 14 years of pay cuts and services cuts on the grounds that now we are out of the EU and are alienating foreigners we can be the cheap labour now. Trouble is we have the power of the vote and they seem to forget that. As they kill off all the older people from shit NHS support and laissez-faire Covid policies some of their natural vote-base will be eroding. Really not doing any long-term planning at all - pretty much as they havent since they were shocked to win Brexit with no actual plans and policies, just rhetoric.

Meanwhile Jacob Leap-frog comes out. No, not that way, he is forced to say:

"Remainers were right about long delays at the border and I lied about it or I'm an idiot for not realising the bleeding obvious" - though he phrased it differently.

he also said The NHS is there to serve the people not the people there to serve the NHS, another LOLS moment as he as usual says something that sounds clever and important but is actually vacuous. Who the f*** does he thinks pays for the NHS to help keep us all alive and healthy? We pay for the privilege of not dying young. He certainly doesn't with his cancer-causing business interests and offshore tax avoidance schemes.

Basically what he's TRYING to say is "the NHS helps keep old poor people alive, the sort of cost we don't want, and the sooner all the plebs who can't afford to pay for private medical care (who in anycase use the NHS for most operations as they can't afford having expensive skilled doctors on standby waiting for their rich toff customers to need life-saving surgery) kick the bucket the better off us rich folk will be as we can starve the NHS of funds then if there's less sick people to look after."

I'm pretty sure that's what he was trying to say....

There is no way the Tories will win an outright majority at the next election, whether that be in the next 6 months, 12 months or over the next 2 years. Inflation is predicted to rise to 15% next year and the lack of any real credible policies to address the energy crisis and cost of living situation will be crippling for many people and their businesses. I predict we will see a wave of strikes right across the public sector just like in the 1970s and possibly worse. There will also be a huge rise in bankruptcies and local authorities will be overwhelmed by dealing with the impact of the cost of living crisis as many families feel the strain. Parts of the NHS will collapse under pressure from being unable to keep up with demand which is already starting to happen with the ambulance service . There will also be a profound realisation by then that Brexit has actually compounded many of the problems we are facing. Whoever becomes the next Tory leader will not last much longer than two years.

The bigger question will be who will form the next government and I suspect it will be a coalition made up of several smaller parties with labour likely to be the biggest party but with no overall majority.

15% inflation, no pay rises, am energy and climate crisis, a USELESS neolibersl government of plutocrats ... It feels like the Fall of Rome. This will hasten the UK's decline into secondary power, at best status. Oh shet - now Sunak can say we are all extremists for saying this
The only thing left is to have a cold winter and most will be completely f***ed. :(
