This is being compiled in conjunction with our #1 listening group (the sessions have now reached the beginning of the 2010s) with a view to running a rate to decide the worst ever #1.

Here is the list for the 2000s. The lists seem to be getting longer with each decade that passes - not sure if there is genuinely more

stinky material or we are becoming harsher as a group as we review periods from more recent memory.

Geri Halliwell - Bag It Up (2000)

Westlife - Fool Again (2000)

Oxide & Neutrino - Bound 4 Da Reload (Casualty) (2000)

Five & Queen - We Will Rock You (2000)

A1 - Take On Me (2000)

Mariah Carey featuring Westlife - Against All Odds (2000)

Atomic Kitten - Eternal Flame (2001)

Afroman - Because I Got High (2001)

Westlife - Queen Of My Heart (2001)

Blazin’ Squad - Crossroads (2002)

Will Young & Gareth Gates - The Long And Winding Road (2002)

David Sneddon - Stop Living The Lie (2003)

Fatman Scoop featuring Crooklyn Clan - Be Faithful (2003)

Ozzy & Kelly Osbourne - Changes (2003)

Sam & Mark - With A Little Help From My Friends (2004)

Eamon - F**k it (I Don’t Want You Back) (2004)

Frankee - F.U.R.B. (F**k You Right Back) (2004)

3 Of A Kind - Baby Cakes (2004)

Brian McFadden - Real To Me (2004)

Eminem - Just Lose It (2004)

Akon - Lonely (2005)

Crazy Frog - Axel F (2005)

Chico - It’s Chico Time (2006)

Sugababes VS Girls Aloud - Walk This Way (2007)

Sean Kingston - Beautiful Girls (2007)

Leon Jackson - When You Believe (2007)

Kid Rock - All Summer Long (2008)

X Factor Finalists - Hero (2008)

Alexandra Burke - Hallelujah (2008)

X Factor Finalists - You Are Not Alone (2009)

Do please comment both on what you think has been included unfairly and what you think has been wrongly left out. Generally a request will be honoured if there are a few posters backing it up.

Note that we are limiting the overall list to 1 song per artist. There are a couple of exceptions: as the X Factor Finalist records had different lineups we decided to include them both. Also as Against All Odds was Mariah featuring Westlife we decided to include a Westlife solo record too (though it was very difficult to decide which one is worst - that could have a whole thread to itself!)

Also it would be very easy to fill the list with charity and reality TV related records, so generally there is a slightly higher bar of awfulness required for these to make the list (though a number have anyway)!

I have updated the Spotify playlist of doom covering the full period since 1952. Note that a few of them are “fake” versions and the Sam & Mark record is not there at all.

I would add:

Akon - Lonely

Sean Kingston - Beautiful Girls

Aside from that, no removals so good list!

I wholeheartedly approve of all of those 07-09 picks that I wasn't here for (with the exception of All Summer Long, I liked it at the time, though I don't come back to it much, but not fussed with it being here as I know some opinions are strong about it!), although though yes, where's Beautiful Girls?!
Can't really argue with the list so far, although I don't think Changes is quite that bad. As for the suggestions, I don't mind Beautiful Girls but adding it makes sense, but I really don't get the Akon hate (same with Don't Matter in the rate the other week) - what's he done exactly?
If Lonely hadn’t had the annoying chipmunk sound effect, it wouldn’t have been no.1. The songs is very poor and Akon is a terrible ‘singer’.

Well I think Lonely is a fine song that's sung quite competently, but that's just my two cents.

Hey Baby is a cheesy disco classic, whereas I don't think I'd heard Because I Got High between 2002 and when it came up in the sessions, and I'd quite happily go another 20 years without hearing it again.

I dont mind Bag It Up, Lonely, Fool Again, Changes, Just Lose It. maybe I'm easily pleased  Westlifes execution of You Raise Me Up was much less good. As was Geri's annoying Its Raining Men.

Oxide & Neutrino Bound 4 Da Reload was rubbish, DJ Pied Piper - Do You Really Like It? No!

21 Seconds to go. It seemed like 21 years before they stopped.

S Club 7 Have You Ever. Yes I have and it was much better than this.

Gareth gates Unchained Melody. Just NO! At least the Long & Winding Road got a Beatles song to the top spot.

Blazin Squad Crossroads. Ewww. DJ Casper Cha Cha Slide it onto the list

R Kelly Ignition. It's R Kelly and it was always over-rated.

Fatman Scoop Be Faithful is borderline. Nizlopi JCB Song. Chipmunk Oopsoe daisee

I forgot about Bound 4 Da Reload (it was in the session I missed) - that's just a mess.

Yes, I vote this awful song in as well.

Add Sean Kingston expeditiously

Akon is a legend but his actual discography is a bit not the best. x

I'd personally take a few of the novelty songs off here (Crazy Frog and Chico mainly) but I'm not going to super protest them being here either for obvious reasons.

I like or at least in some novelty form.. Geri, Five & Queen, A1, AK, Brian McFadden (I admit not being a Westlife fan but I did like his solo material and I also have the album for evidence :kink: ), Kid Rock (I get the hate but I liked it oops) and I'm impartial to the Frankee one too but I'm also not complaining about it being included.

Ooh this is a fun topic to sink my teeth into.

From the OP I don't have too many qualms but wouldn't have these myself:

Westlife - Fool Again (2000) - this is one of their best imo, I'd swap for Queen Of My Heart or Unbreakable

Afroman - Because I Got High (2001) - nahh this is absolutely iconic

Eamon - F**k it (I Don’t Want You Back) (2004) - this one's a classic, Frankee can stay there though

Eminem - Just Lose It (2004) - no Slim Shady slander please

And some of the X Factor songs I personally like but wouldn't complain at them being considered among the worst by the consensus.

Lonely & Beautiful Girls are among the best #1s of the decade, not the worst :P

BUT these definitely need to be considered:

Madonna - American Pie [horrendous cover]

Bob The Builder - Can We Fix It [the Mambo cover was fun, this was just annoying]

Limp Bizkit - Rollin [blehhh]

Fatman Scoop - Be Faithful [probably the worst #1 of the entire decade]

Michelle McManus - All This Time [i know some segments of the forum love this but it's trash]

McFly - Don't Stop Me Now [horrendous cover + you can pick almost all of their #1s to feature here tbh]

Katie Melua/Eva Cassidy - What A Wonderful World [horrendous cover, notice a theme here?]

Peter Kay's All Star Band - Children In Need Medley [what a crock of shite]

I'm sure I've missed a few more...

Edited by Dobbo.

Personally, I would remove the following:

Westlife - Fool Again (2000) - they had much, much worse - all the covers! I'd plump for Mandy or The Rose

Mariah Carey featuring Westlife - Against All Odds (2000) - always loved this cover, I know I'm probably alone so expect it to be left in

Atomic Kitten - Eternal Flame (2001) - same as above!

David Sneddon - Stop Living The Lie (2003) - not that bad, an original talent show song at least

Ozzy & Kelly Osbourne - Changes (2003) - also not that bad, sticks out a bit here for me

And add these:

Bob the Builder - either song, though I found Mambo No.5 particularly grating!

Blazin' Squad - Crossroads - one of my least favourite records ever actually, they had some pretty good stuff later on but this was a very cheap sounding debut and quite far from the best of UK rap...

Fatman Scoop - Be Faithful - love Faith's original, wish that had been the No.1. The verses on this are terrible.

Steve Brookstein - Against All Odds - this is way worse than the Mariah/Westlife cover imo.

Sean Kingston - Beautiful Girls - awful!

yes I'd save Davd Sneddon too

It's not that bad and he wrote it himself, cannot compare to those XF winners mutilating Hallelujah, Cannonball, Everybody Hurts etc

There are none that I'd take out - all very worthy inclusions

These are must-adds;

- Blazin' Squad - Crossroads

- 3 Of A Kind - Babycakes

- Sean Kingston - Beautiful Girls

There are others that I have genuine dislike for, but I don't seriously expect many people to back me up;

- Britney Spears - Oops... I Did It Again

- Robbie Williams - Rock DJ

- Madonna - Music

- Kylie Minogue - Slow

- Basshunter - Now You're Gone
