August 30, 20223 yr Id hope Britney and Elton. It would need to start climbing on Spotify to even stand a chance, it’s done nothing but drop since it’s debut on there
August 30, 20223 yr Wow - One Republic now at no4. This has been a real slow burner but I wonder if it can go all the way! Edited August 30, 20223 yr by slowdown73
August 30, 20223 yr I'm glad it looks like Hold Me Closer will miss the top spot. Elton has piggybacked his way to number one enough already. Edited August 30, 20223 yr by Azure
August 30, 20223 yr Didn't realise David/Bebe were looking at a top 10 debut! :o With the way it's climbing on spotify, I hope it can hold come Friday. I never imagined David Guetta would be creating hit after hit in the 2020s after he had a bit of a lull in his career. OneRepublic look to be in a good place challenge or #1 soon as well. :o Then Britney getting a possible top 5 hit this week too! I feel like I'm being transported back to the early 2010s.
August 30, 20223 yr It's all just depending upon which lens you choose to look at it from - in this format both Britney and Kylie started their careers at the end of a decade which meant that they had 2 decades done within a couple of years. Kylie spans 15 years Britney spans 14 years Madonna spans 23 years Not intending this to discredit Britney either, it would be an achievement to get another #1 23 years into her career regardless but terming it as 'four decades' makes it sound like it's almost 40 years when the reality is much smaller. You can look at it whichever you want. Kylie still came closer to getting a number one single in the 2010s than Madonna.
August 30, 20223 yr And? My response was around comparing longevity for the #1s. I'm not pitting them against each other, just pointing out that '#1 in 4 decades' is a very misleading way of looking at things. I would agree that Kylie is the most successful act of the 3 in the UK at the moment and probably throughout the 2010s also. And even if people were to directly compare the last top 5 hit for both, Kylie's came in June 2010 and Madonna's came in September 2009 - basically both of their last lead singles from an album before downloads and streaming really took over and killed the market for purchasing singles. It's not an achievement that one did it about 9-10 months later than the other

Wow, crazy that if Britney gets it it’ll be the same distance between BOMT to Hold Me Closer as Into the Groove to 4 Minutes :o I really, really hope they have a plan. Signed CDs, anything. Britney’s been my fave since childhood and I’d do anything to see her on top again
August 30, 20223 yr Just to balance things out, I love the Guetta/Bebe track, it takes an annoying song and makes a much better one out of it *.* Better than the original? Joseph noooooooooo :o
August 30, 20223 yr Unless something changes dramatically I think this week was the best chance for Britney/Elton to get #1 and I think we would already know about it if signed CDs or a similar stunt were going to drop this week.

August 30, 20223 yr Well 4 Minutes debuted at #8 I think so it'll probably be off to a better start than that at least. 4 Minutes run was impressive now I look back. It reached #1 in week 5, did it chart on downloads for the first few weeks or something?
August 30, 20223 yr It's not even a competition!!! You're right, it's not :) the original is an untouchable 90s classic.
August 30, 20223 yr 4 Minutes run was impressive now I look back. It reached #1 in week 5, did it chart on downloads for the first few weeks or something? Yeah, I seem to remember it charted on downloads for its first few weeks, so maybe it climbed to #1 the week the CD single was released? I'm sure others have better memories than me.
August 30, 20223 yr 4 Minutes run was impressive now I look back. It reached #1 in week 5, did it chart on downloads for the first few weeks or something? I have no idea. Maybe Madonna and Miley Cyrus spamming it on Youtube. kCkwYuoqnyo ZiBaQA0XHyg In all seriousness probably the CDs got released later after the downloads, and the music video, and increasing airplay. Also, is your username after the Janet Jackson song? I liked that song when it came out.
August 30, 20223 yr Hoping Hold Me Closer remains Top 3/5. Would absolutely love Britney to score a Number 1 at some point with this triumphant return

Until Give Me All Your Luvin’ honestly, then it was decided by the PTB that she was “uncool”. I remember people at my school talking about that song, that was unthinkable by Rebel Heart. And yeah lol, it is! I was a full-fledged Janet stan back then (still am she’s just semi-retired again lol) and I signed up the day after it came out. Unbreakable was a great album, I wish it did better, just barely missed the top 10 here.
