October 5, 20222 yr It was low down my longlist but I really like the BSB song, one of their best for me. Didn't realise it was a midweek chart topper, funny that Tori got there instead with a song that sounds nothing like her typical output. Exterminate is decent too, I like the new age style sounds in the production.
October 5, 20222 yr None of my votes have gone out yet. I think the best song so far is I Wanna Give You Devotion.
October 5, 20222 yr 'Exterminate' is one I don't think I've ever heard in full but it sounded great from the short clip in the recap video! 'Hard Knock Life (Ghetto Anthem)' is good too but not one of my faves from Jay (I actually find the sample a bit grating tbh) The one song that I felt had a slight chance of only getting points from me was my 6 pointer so moment of truth tomorrow ~
October 5, 20222 yr 'Exterminate' is definitely my favourite to drop out so far! Enjoyed that recently on TOTP repeats.
October 6, 20222 yr Author NO 139- 6 POINTS The Best Things In Life Are Free Janet Jackson & Luther Vandross (Voter: Torple) (#2 for 2 weeks in August/September 1992 behind “Rhythm Is A Dancer” by Snap! One down and 1 to go for Janet= was remixed into another top 10 single just three years later. Star People 97 George Michael (Voter: Gezza) (#2 for 1 week in May 1997 behind “Love Won’t Wait” by Gary Barlow) Talking of remixes- this was remixed for single release and served as Michael’s fifth single from “Older”. He has three entries left though with only me pointing this track.
October 6, 20222 yr Author NO 136- 7 POINTS Blue Velvet Bobby Vinton (Voter: Leonardo) (#2 for 1 week in October 1990 behind “Show Me Heaven” by Maria McKee) Off the back of both a Nivea advert and the first terrestrial airing for the film of the same title, helped it make runner up spot. Until The Time Is Through Five (Voter: Gooddelta) (#2 for 1 week in November 1998 behind “Believe” by Cher) A hat-trick of No 2 hits back to back for these boys who made themselves one of the biggest boybands around as the decade ended. If Ya Gettin Down Five (Voter:Mark223) (#2 for 1 week in July 1999 behind “Livin La Vida Loca” by Ricky Martin) Though not doing so well on this rate sadly. Midweek No 1 that lost out- they have 1 entry left.
October 6, 20222 yr Two songs by Five on 7 points is rather a coincidence (I could understand if they were both on 5 points lol), but the one that's left is the most memorable of the three.
October 6, 20222 yr I have such a soft spot for Until The Time Is Through even though I’m not the biggest fan of Five generally. It’s a perfectly crafted Max Martin ballad. Not particularly mad on any of the others there but surprised The Best Things In Life Are Free only had one voter. Edited October 6, 20222 yr by gooddelta
October 6, 20222 yr Star People is the best of that lot for me. I do prefer the album version to the '97 remix but that’s decent too, glad that there’s still other tracks from that stunning album to come. None of the others came close to my votes.
October 7, 20222 yr Glad I wasn't alone in voting for my 6 pointer then - I reckon I won't be the sole voter for anything in that case. 'If Ya Gettin' Down' is a mild bop, one of the better Five songs (though it's no 'Keep On Movin'')
October 7, 20222 yr Author NO 134- 8 POINTS When Love & Hate Collide Def Leppard (Voter: Julian T- 7pts, AH Gold- 1 pt) (#2 for 1 week in October 1995 behind “Fairground” by Simply Red) Def leppard exit the rate but this did better than I thought it would for sure! Why Don't You Get A Job? Offspring (Voter: AH Gold- 8 pts) (#2 for 1 week in May 1998 behind “Swear It Again” by Westlife) Another one that relatively well, damn Westlife!
October 7, 20222 yr Author NO 133- 9 POINTS The X Files Mark Snow (Voter: Waspbre- 6 pts, Narcow- 1pt, Leonardo- 2 pts) (#2 for 3 weeks in March/April 1996 behind “Firestarter” by The Prodigy) Well the first track to get points from 3 voters, one for each week it spent at No 2.
October 7, 20222 yr Like both of those Five songs. 'If Ya Getting Down' especially is a tune. 'Why Don't You Get A Job' also great but I prefer the #1 of their's and 'I Want You Bad'.
October 7, 20222 yr I still listen to Why Don't You Get A Job? a lot, their 1999 singles are classics. Surprised the X Files theme picked up three votes :o
October 7, 20222 yr Ooh so I wasn't the only one to vote for my 9 pointer then? Yay! 'Blue Velvet' is lovely, I actually knew the Lana Del Rey cover first but enjoy both versions. I quite like 'The X Files' theme too although associate it with memes
October 7, 20222 yr Pretty sure I'll have managed to point four songs here that nobody else has, potentially even more looking up my list and at what went out on zero. But we'll see
