By contrast, I think Crazy Stupid Love is by far the worst of Cheryl's contenders here

And yes, very true about how difficult this must be to put together. It's quite clear that there's a much wider range of opinions here on the songs from this period!

Rules of the Dance Monkey poll: I will consider it closed at 23:59 on Friday. If it’s a tie or Yes is in the lead it stays on. If No is in the lead it’s off. No legal challenges. No further People’s Vote. No marching for monkey. That’s it. :D

Am I allowed to flip my vote to Yes if No wins by one vote :teresa:

(this vote is closer than I expected lol)

Considering it's somehow made it to the semi finals of ROTD I grimly expect the no vote to win on that one.

As for Cheryl, I think I Don't Care is probably the worst song i've heard of hers, seconded by that Love Made Me Do It mess she tried to comeback with a few years later and then thirded by Crazy Stupid Love and it's horrible horn sound. Ironically for all that slagging off I do like most of her earlier singles, including her first three #1s.

Oh I really hope the poll ends up 52/48 one way or the other hahaha
Will that mean the competition is held up while we have three years of endless monkey debate going round in circles?

Current list is looking good (although I thought the rule was only one #1 per artist so why is Turn Up The Music now there?)

Only real omission for me now is Artists For Grenfell - just as awful as all the other charity #1s (but I get we don't want a complete deluge of those too).

Also I think the worst of the 4 X Factor #1s was the 2010 one.

I think the one song per artist rule only applies to the lead artist, so it's the same as with Westlife and now Dizze Rascal (possibly others?)

Since I started writing my last comment, the poll has flipped from 13-11 in favour of Yes, to 21-13 the other way now - looks like we'll be exiting this thread without a Monkey after all.

Yeah Chris Brown and Dizzee would potentially be on once as lead and once as feature like Westlife and Stevie Wonder.

I think A Bridge Over You is probably worse than the Grenfell one if we were going to include one of those?

I’ve had people saying “this one is the worst” about all 4 of the X Factor Finalist ones haha. In my opinion the 2010 and 2011 ones were slightly more interesting and less vomit inducing than the first two. I would probably have gone with Hero but there seemed to be more calls for You Are Not Alone. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Personally i'm going to take whichever X Factor Finalists song is on the list as a representation of all of them and apply my points accordingly (that's high end).
if we're going by how some of the lyrics on Green Light have aged badly you could make the same argument for Blurred Lines!),

Yes I would be up for 'Blurred Lines' being nominated.

Hi, sorry, I’m new to this thread. Does bold mean a song had already been confirmed for the vote?

Say for example if I didn’t want Charlie/Megan nominated for 2015 as it’s not yet bold, do I need to offer an alternate suggestion in its place?

The bold ones were added to the list the other day replacing the ones that are now crossed out. Everything else was there when the thread was posted (and is still there now).

The last ballot box has just arrived from the Scily Isles and the results of the referendum have been declared. Article 50 (consecutive weeks in the Top 40) has been triggered. The monkey has danced off and we won’t be making her doovit all again.

I have put the alternative Cheryl pick on in its place.

Planning to finalise the list in the next 24 hours, so further comments are welcome but at this stage I think there are a few key questions:

Are we happy with the representation of charity and reality? We added Barry Islands In The Stream as there were many calls for it in the thread, but there were nearly as many calls for A Bridge Over You so could have gone with that instead. I’m not convinced BIITS is all that bad; seems a fairly harmless cover to me. Also are we definitely happy that 500 Miles shouldn’t be included?

Are we happy with the 1 X Factor winner’s single we’ve included, and also with our pick of the 4 X Factor Finalist singles? If we had time I’d do another poll for the X Factor Finalist songs as I’m aware that whichever one we include is likely to do quite “well”. I would have probably gone with Hero in 2008 as it started the whole horror show and was probably the most over the top, but some others wanted the 2009 one.

My instinct still says the latest thing that should be going on is Sausage Rolls For Everyone as nothing from this year is that bad by historic standards. Any more thoughts on that?
