Is this going to become the new norm with songs getting a reset thanks to TikTok?

I hope not. It’s becoming a joke that songs are getting resets thanks to TikTok especially when a song has peaked high enough in the past. If they wanna reset songs thanks to TikTok, do it with songs which have never made the top 40 and reset songs when an artist involved has died

Why would labels want to reset songs when an artist involved has died, that sounds quite morbid to me.

A reset for people who have just died would be to maximize the renewed interest in their catalogue of music. Looking subjectively at the charts of old and now, you'd get the impression that the public no longer care about an artist dying as in many cases no significant resurgence is seen due to the flattening effect of ACR.

I really don’t think it’s appropriate or fair for an artist to get a reset if they die

For example, what if one of the members of the killers died and Mr Brightside got a reset

It went even more viral which it would and it got #1 on SCR. Could you imagine the uproar

I say always insta-reset everything that is reaching a new peak, and never reset anything that is not reaching a new peak. Dead or alive, promoted or not, label interested or not - ACR is meant to move songs that are not peaking aside, and so if it is not peaking it does not need the reset and if it is peaking it does.

I realise it could get complicated towards Christmas with multiple insta-resets each week but I think that rule should still work.

Considering what happened with Kate Bush, surely there would be uproar if it wasn't reset and missed #1 as a result

NO OTHER SALES INFO

I wouldn't describe Apocalypse as a banging tune but yes ideally their label should get their act together and ask for a reset otherwise it sadly won't make the chart (the song dates from 2017)
Oh looks like Ed's released some CDs then. I thought those were already accounted for but him being top 5 with them makes more sense than how low he was on First Look I guess.

I had a feeling CDs weren't being counted yet for Ed in the last update (or if they were that he must have only done like 1,000 of them or something), that position makes more sense now. Yay at Sam taking a comfortable lead now, hopefully they can finally be First Look/Monday #1 next week

Looks like it could be very close between George and Slipknot for the #1 album, not really that bothered about who gets it but would be neat for Slipknot to join the club of acts with new #1 albums in 3 different decades. Then again George would be making it 5 straight decades with at least a week at #1 though not with a new album this time.

Also hooray for Yeah Yeah Yeahs still hanging on at #5 + Denzel still top 20, is Wednesday #18 usually enough to secure a Friday top 40 or am I getting out the clown makeup again

Would there? Kate Bush didn’t die, it went crazy viral due to Stranger Things. My point was in relation to artists who die automatically getting a reset to one of their songs.

I'm also glad to see Sam and Kim back in front today. Looking good for more than a fleeting hit this. Ed up to his special tricks again too  I don't mind tbh as OneRep have had their time in the top 5 anyway.

If track (or tracks) would have got to no.1 without ACR then yes there would be an uproar

This. The only uproar with a reset would be on chart websites like this. If the general public cared about getting Mr Brightside out the charts, they would have stopped streaming years ago. Agree in principal with an automatic reset for a recent death for the top 3 songs that week/songs getting the 50% week on week increase.

Ed sales definitely looking healthier now. Let’s see if this can translate into some longevity.

Really hoping Cuff It can hold on. A post album release top 10 would be a great result for Bey. :cheer:

Ed streams are VERY bad, so that means tons of CD's, he can take the number 1 also if he wants I guess with enough CD's. Go Sam!
Just noticed that 'Celestial' has also been tagged onto the tour edition of '=' on Spotify (I think that's only happened today, only realised because the artwork for the song changed in the Spotify chart) so that'll explain if there's a suspicious uptick in the numbers for '=' between now and the final chart again.
May I ask where is Britney today?
