November 30, 20222 yr I think there's a format that could work. If I had anything to do with it, I'd put it on Saturday evenings, go for a family audience rather than try to be too cool for school like SLFN did. But finding that perfect recipe that worked would still be very difficult I think it may find a home on CBBC or BBC 3. Channels aimed at much younger audience. After all the TOTP re-runs are on BBC4 aimed at a more mature audience. Also I think they probably find it difficult to get acts to appear on the show and bad ratings won't help
November 30, 20222 yr Thank you, that seems a reasonable rating for daytime on Christmas Day, although down a lot, considering most BBC Three programmes are under 100k in prime time and they keep going. Hope they can find a slot that works for it so it will continue beyond this year.

November 30, 20222 yr I don't think they're that great tbh, Sounds Like Friday Night was axed with more viewers. Though Sounds Like Friday Night had a prime time slot, not to mention TV ratings have pretty dramatically declined in the past few years due to the rise of streaming. That being said, 1.46m isn't amazing, but I don't think it's too bad for a midday showing on Christmas Day (that can't be a particularly lucrative timeslot regardless).
November 30, 20222 yr I am expecting RAYE, Eliza Rose, LF System, Cat Burns, Lewis Capaldi, George Ezra, Sam Smith and Kim Petras, and Stormzy to be on the show. Edited November 30, 20222 yr by TheSnake
November 30, 20222 yr I think it may find a home on CBBC or BBC 3. Channels aimed at much younger audience. After all the TOTP re-runs are on BBC4 aimed at a more mature audience. Also I think they probably find it difficult to get acts to appear on the show and bad ratings won't help I think if they were mad enough to try bringing back TOTP though, there'd be no point in aiming it at a younger audience, because they aren't going to sit down and watch it in large enough numbers. So going for the nostalgia angle and aiming it at your average Radio 2 listener would be the route to go down I think. But of course it's not going to happen anyway... And I think those who reckon the show is going to be a clip show may well be right. It's on at 22.40 on Christmas Eve, which doesn't suggest to me they're going to bother doing a proper show. An outside chance there might be one or two new performances recorded in the Live Lounge or something, which would be a logical place to film it?

December 1, 20222 yr Must be the first time since around 1965 that there is no Top of the Pops on Christmas Day!
December 3, 20222 yr It doesn’t feel like there were any highlights from this year The only highlight for me was a Kate Bush song from 1985.
December 3, 20222 yr Yeh I assume it didn’t get a Xmas day special on its first year!1965 was the first year. A late broadcast too, at 10.35pm https://genome.ch.bbc.co.uk/schedules/servi...ndon/1965-12-25 Featuring The No.1 Records of the Year by The Beatles, The Byrds, Ken Dodd, Georgie Fame and the Blue Flames, The Hollies, Tom Jones, The Kinks, The Moody Blues, Elvis Presley, The Righteous Brothers, The Rolling Stones, The Seekers, Sandie Shaw, Sonny and Cher, Jackie Trent, Unit Four Plus Two, The Walker Brothers With Jimmy Savile, David Jacobs, Alan Freeman, Peter Murray (Repeated on Sunday at 12.15)
December 3, 20222 yr The annual New Years special have finally been scrapped in favour of a single, 60-minute, ‘Review of 2022’ programme on Christmas Day. The description reads: Hosted by Clara Amfo and Jack Saunders, the show has also been demoted to BBC Two as opposed to the main channel. That's a guaranteed segment on Kate Bush but I can't remember what other big stories there were in pop music this year's unless I'm missing something obvious. A weekly chart show on TV might have some viability if we had lots of old hits (or artists) entering the top 40. The TV audience is getting quite old now I don't think there'd be much interest in the charts as they are now. The other thing I think could be viable could be doing the Radio 1 chart show in video form with as many performances and interviews as they can get each week and streaming it on YouTube or TikTok.
December 3, 20222 yr In terms of stories this year I remember 'We Don't Talk About Bruno' topping the chart actually making the news so that is bound to come up! Same with Britney's return to the chart. Our Eurovision success this year seems like something to shout about too. Just a few off the top of my head - Kate Bush's renaissance is a tough singles chart story to beat this year though  It's a shame that TOTP is being shafted a bit :( It's one of my Christmas highlights even if a lot of my modern music taste is not so commercial. I tune into the BBC4 repeats religiously
December 3, 20222 yr Digiguide has this description: Clara Amfo and Jack Saunders look back over the past 12 months, presenting performances by Harry Styles, Stormzy, Sam Fender, Raye and Sam Smith and playing the Christmas number one. Also joining Clara and Jack is 2022 British breakthrough star Cat Burns, performs her hit Go, while Sam Ryder chats about life after his hugely successful appearance at the Eurovision Song Contest in May. So there is at least one new performance from Cat Burns, but only that one listed.
December 3, 20222 yr The only new performance being bloody Cat Burns would really sum up how much Top of the Pops has gone downhill :kink:
December 4, 20222 yr I don’t really understand how ‘TOTPs has went downhill’ there’s been two episodes a year since 2006 now and it’s recorded in the first two weeks of December each year. Do people expect Ariana Grande and Adele to turn up?
December 4, 20222 yr Author I don’t really understand how ‘TOTPs has went downhill’ there’s been two episodes a year since 2006 now and it’s recorded in the first two weeks of December each year. Do people expect Ariana Grande and Adele to turn up? Well there’s not even any actual episodes now by the sounds of it! It’s clearly just a clip show with possibly just one new performance.
