They really should not have got rid of the year-end top 200 imo. With only a list of 100, and most of it being old songs or songs leftover hits from the year before, I think a top 200 would help us see where more of the new hit songs land in comparison to each other.

I know their reasoning is probably that it needs to match the size of the weekly charts (when the charts briefly became a top 250 in the mid-00s we got a year-end top 250 too, then both charts when back to 200 shortly afterwards), but I don't really understand why that HAS to be a rule.

^ Agree totally - the more old stuff you have in the Top 100 the more you need a Top 200. I understand why ACR means they don’t do the weekly Top 200 but there’s surely no need for them to be of equal size.

oh didn't realise Oasis was on 5 million

sad to see a playlist (This is The Weeknd playlist) as #1 album of the year :/ :/ :/

Another things I've noticed there are less UK acts charting both in singles and albums

in singles, guess cos of tiktok, which usually has lots of international rather than UK-centered hits

in albums, cos the current rules favour GH and This is Playlists, sand of course there are more international big stars than UK ones

but sad to see anyway, the UK chart has traditionally been dominated by UK acts, especially in albums

Equals will probably hit a million overall this year but the fact he hasn't dome it before subtract doesn't look good for subtracts longevity
Well to be fair almost no albums ever hit a million particularly quickly these days, '=' not having done so yet despite how consistent its chart run is just shows how difficult that is to achieve now. Although I feel like '-' is likely to have nowhere near the longevity of any of his previous albums anyway, the actual album tracks from '=' never really made that much noise, the album was just held up by having so many hit singles on it which doesn't exactly look likely to be the case for '-' especially if it's true that 'Eyes Closed' is just the token 'hit' from the album (and even then hasn't been as big as previous lead singles).

Left the YTD Top 100 during April:

I’m still standing (re-entered and left)

Superhero

Lift me up

When I was your man

Big city life

Crazy to think Flowers has almost outsold Anti-hero’s lifetime sales (and nor far behind Unholy for that matter).
Is that 2 songs in the top 10 released in 2023?

I think Boy's a Liar was released in 2022 as well, so just 1 song. Calvin Harris will be in the top 10 in no time though.

Yeah I really do think anything else is going to struggle to catch up as, even with a big first week sale, Taylor and the Weeknd basically had a 150K head start and everything else quickly collapses to the 7-8K they do.

ps thank you for digging this out to answer my question

Seems like the EOY albums chart may be going the same way as the singles one where there's just too much of an inbuilt advantage to albums that have been available all year for anything released partway through to compete.

If The Weeknd does end up as the #1 for the year I think that'll be the first time ever that an EOY #1 wasn't also a weekly #1? (Excluding the possibility it eventually does get to #1 on a quiet enough week ofc). I do have a feeling Taylor will end up ahead of him though.
