Thanks to the 43 people who participated in last week's poll :jump:

Official results from week 6:

[ 24 ] RAYE - Ice Cream Man. (#69)

[ 19 ] Rita Ora - You Only Love Me (#57)

[ 13 ] Switch Disco and Robert Miles - REACT (feat. Ella Henderson) (#90)

[ 8 ] Anne-Marie - SAD B!TCH (#65)

[ 7 ] Falling In Reverse - Watch The World Burn (#95)

[ 5 ] Nathan Dawe and Bru-C - Oh Baby (feat. bshp and Issey Cross) (#60)

[ 5 ] Sam Smith and Ed Sheeran - Who We Love (#85)

[ 5 ] Matt Sassari - Give It To Me (#96)

BuzzJack's favourite top 100 hit for 2023 week 6 and auto-qualifying for the February monthly round is RAYE - Ice Cream Man..

Turns out I was actually wrong the other week and we do already have a poll winner representing the R&B/hip-hop forum (neat that all 4 genre forums are represented within the first 6 weeks!), though I'm not exactly sure what genre I'd categorise this particular song as with RAYE's album being quite all over the map stylistically. In any case, 'Ice Cream Man.' was the 5th and final song released just ahead of British singer RAYE's long-delayed debut album 'My 21st Century Blues', featuring harrowing lyrics about her experience with sexual assault. Despite there being arguably more commercially friendly tracks on the album this proved the most popular new track and only the 2nd song from the album to chart at all after the titan of 'Escapism.'. Here's hoping she has more and greater success in the future.

Rita Ora missed out on a place in the poll last week which was clearly a tactic to get a nicer draw in this poll but she nonetheless finishes in 2nd place, 5 votes behind RAYE although still getting votes from nearly half of voters. Switch Disco's update of Robert Miles classic 'Children' (with added Ella Henderson) is the only other song to crack double digits in a week with slightly lower turnout and... not the best quality. But still another week of no song individually embarrassing itself as last place is a 3 way tie on 5 votes each (and somehow that does not include either Anne-Marie or Falling In Reverse).

Weekly winners to date:

01 // 12/01/23 // Sub Focus and Dimension - Ready To Fly

02 // 19/01/23 // Skrillex, Fred again.. and Flowdan - Rumble

03 // 26/01/23 // Miley Cyrus - Flowers

04 // 02/02/23 // Fall Out Boy - Love From The Other Side

05 // 09/02/23 // P!nk - TRUSTFALL

06 // 16/02/23 // RAYE - Ice Cream Man.

~

9 songs this week although there are 10 on the Spotify playlist as I've included both the solo version of 'Special' and the remix featuring SZA that was heavily driving its chart position. Feel free to vote based on either version! Including both Lizzo versions the playlist is 30 minutes and 37 seconds with everything being neatly in the 2-4 minute range.

Vote for as many or as few songs as you want and would be ideal if you can make sure you've heard all the songs before voting if possible!

You have until Saturday evening ish as usual :jump:

And here are the results from the January monthly round...

Unfortunately it is the end of the road for these:

11 87 Cat Burns - people pleaser

10 117 FLO - Cardboard Box

9 120 Luude and Issey Cross - Oh My (feat. Moby)

8 121 Mimi Webb - Red Flags

7 125 NewJeans - Ditto

6 132 Taylor Swift - Bejeweled

5 144 Skrillex, Fred again.. and Flowdan - Rumble

Still in with a chance of making the final for the year is...

4 147 Fall Out Boy - Love From The Other Side

Which means our first 3 guaranteed spots in the yearly round go to Bizarrap/Shakira, Miley Cyrus and Sub Focus/Dimension :cheer: The order of them doesn't make any difference but for what it's worth it was a close race between Miley and Bizarrap for 1st place with both being miles ahead of the rest of the pack but Miley ultimately winning by just 7 points, while it was super tight between Sub Focus, Fall Out Boy and Skrillex for the last guaranteed slot and the potential slot but 'Ready To Fly' squeaking out 3rd place by 5 points.

3 152 Sub Focus and Dimension - Ready To Fly

2 207 Bizarrap and Shakira - Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53

1 214 Miley Cyrus - Flowers

(will start including the list of yearly round qualifiers in the OP from next week onwards x)

Ready To Fly made the yearly round :cheer:

Voted Linkin Park and Paramore - I've taken time to click with the latter's new era (the title track is only now growing on me) but Running Out Of Time is definitely a good one, and relatable.

1. Mae Stephens - If We Ever Broke Up

2. Ice Spice - In Ha Mood

3. Linkin Park - Lost

4. Central Cee - Me & You

5. Paramore - Running Out Of Time

6. Lizzo - Special

7. Luke Combs - Love You Anyway

8. Jax Jones and Calum Scott - Whistle

9. Lovejoy - Call Me What You Like

I ended up voting for Mae Stephens and Ice Spice but I could have easily give Linkin Park a vote too. I really love the chorus in 'If We Ever Broke Up' but not sold on the verses yet and 'In Ha Mood' is much better than the other Ice Spice tracks I've heard. 'Lost' is alright, not one of their classics.

'Me & You' and 'Running Out Of Time' are both fine. I usually hate Lizzo's hits but she's now had two in a row that I think are passable if very generic.

'Love You Amway' is 100x better than his other track from the other week. I might even be tempted to use the word 'pleasant'. The Jax Jones track is exactly what you'd expect from him.

'Call Me What You Like' is proper rubbish though. The lyrics sound like what would be created by one of those AIs that would write a song after analysing Arctic Monkeys' past catalogue.

I've actually heard all of these already this week!

Voted for Ice Spice, Paramore and Mae Stephens.

I voted for Linkin Park, Paramore and Mae Stephens. The rest varied from ok to awful (Central Cee is nothing if not consistent).

8/10 Jax Jones and Calum Scott - Whistle (#100)

6/10 Ice Spice - In Ha Mood (#79)

6/10 Luke Combs - Love You Anyway (#62)

6/10 Linkin Park - Lost (#18)

5/10 Paramore - Running Out Of Time (#74)

5/10 Lizzo - Special (solo / feat. SZA) (#66)

4/10 Central Cee - Me & You (#31)

3/10 Mae Stephens - If We Ever Broke Up (#45)

2/10 Lovejoy - Call Me What You Like (#32)

Jax Jones gets my solitary vote

Linkin Park - Lost (#18) - bit boring for them

Central Cee - Me & You (#31) - like it, especially that dortmund lyric

Lovejoy - Call Me What You Like (#32) - not bad, think it'll be a grower

Mae Stephens - If We Ever Broke Up (#45) - catchy but pretty annoying

Luke Combs - Love You Anyway (#62) - garbage, can his music stay on the blllboard plz

Lizzo - Special (solo / feat. SZA) (#66) - nothing special about this whatsoever

Paramore - Running Out Of Time (#74) - one of the weaker songs on the album

Ice Spice - In Ha Mood (#79) - it's ok but not enough to it

Jax Jones and Calum Scott - Whistle (#100) flo rida called and wants his song back

Very poor week, only Central Cee and Lovejoy for me.

Voted for Paramore this week! Happy that RAYE won the last one.

01. Paramore - Running Out Of Time (#74) ~ honestly not one of my top highlights from their new album but still easily the best here for me, loving the more alt-rock pivot from them lately

02. Linkin Park - Lost (#18) ~ not an LP classic but solid, their lyrics typically cut deep but hearing these words through a posthumous lens feels especially sad

03. Lovejoy - Call Me What You Like (#32) ~ a pleasant surprise, wholly decent

04. Ice Spice - In Ha Mood (#79) ~ don't massively get the hype if I'm honest but did like the production a fair bit

05. Mae Stephens - If We Ever Broke Up (#45) ~ reminds me of something else that I can't put my finger on at the moment, was okay if a bit immature

06. Lizzo - Special (solo / feat. SZA) (#66) ~ pretty boring :(

07. Jax Jones and Calum Scott - Whistle (#100) ~ wallpaper

08. Luke Combs - Love You Anyway (#62) ~ not my thing

09. Central Cee - Me & You (#31) ~ this was so annoying, flush

Quickly bumping this back to the first page ~ About a day ish left to vote in this B-) I still need to vote myself, will probably leave to tomorrow x

Also oop that Rushawn song with unclear versions did stay top 100 pretty comfortably so I have to decide what to do with that now. I think I might just include the Prinz and TRINIX versions as they have the same title as the one listed on the chart (with Prinz seeming to now be the most popular version on Spotify + has a music video and TRINIX is the most popular on Amazon which is the only audio platform it's actually charting on) while The Kiffness' version has a slightly different title, though I feel like it's likely also being combined as it's on the same label and something has to explain how it's charting so high. Inb4 all the versions are bad and it gets 0 votes anyway x

Ice Spice - In Ha Mood (#79)

Central Cee - Me & You (#31)

Lovejoy - Call Me What You Like (#32)

Lizzo - Special (solo / feat. SZA) (#66)

Paramore - Running Out Of Time (#74)

Linkin Park - Lost (#18)

Mae Stephens - If We Ever Broke Up (#45)

Jax Jones and Calum Scott - Whistle (#100)

Luke Combs - Love You Anyway (#62)

A really poor week, oops! Voted top 3~

hooray the one good song from last week won the poll  i assumed that Rita Ora shite would run away with it

1 Lovejoy - Call Me What You Like [possibly their best chorus yet, the drums go hard, Wilbur kills it too (especially with the iconic spoken word section) - also getting a song like this in the top 40 now is highly impressive and deserves more acknowledgment]

2 Paramore - Running Out of Time [tragically relatable - and a very solid tune to boot]

3 Linkin Park - Lost [can't really go wrong with the classic LP sound]

4 Luke Combs - Love You Anyway [slay those fiddles *_* a pleasant enough track]

5 Lizzo & SZA - Special [even with the SZA addition this sadly doesn't live up to its title]

6 Ice Spice - In Ha Mood [meh, her solo stuff hasn't done it for me so far]

7 Mae Stephens - If We Ever Broke Up [an archetypal tiktok pop hit - just listen to BENEE instead]

8 Central Cee - Me & You [boooooring]

9 Jax Jones & Calum Scott - Whistle [just as corny and embarrassing as i'd expect from the names involved, i've no doubt the locals will love this and make it a hit]

1 'Running Out Of Time' - issa jam, kind of gives me higher budget Wet Leg vibes especially with the slightly goofy lyrics (some of which I relate to far too much oop x), not sure this is quite my favourite of the new songs from their album but definitely up there and can see why this was the one that got the push 9/10

2 'Lost' - you can definitely tell it's an unreleased Meteora era song, kind of sounds like a more undercooked version of 'Numb' but still really liked this so happy it eventually saw the light of day even if the lyrics are quite bittersweet to hear posthumously 8/10

3 'If We Ever Broke Up' - pleasantly surprised by this as I was kind of expecting to hate it as I do with a lot of zoomer TikTok pop, this one is fine though, it does remind me a lot of BENEE who I do actually quite like most of the time, also gives kind of Future Nostalgia vibes although would be one of the weaker songs on that obvz 6.5/10

4 'Me & You' - well it's a lot better than Cench's last 2 big hits, has a decent groove to it but still overall pretty mid, not sure the hook works particularly well with the sampled vocal although the way he says 'see in you' is pretty irritating so maybe for the best on the rest of the lines lol. Also still a few pretty offputting lyrics peppered throughout this - lol at this now being his third top 40 hit to reference the 'my bitch is gay' line although at least he seems a bit more apologetic for it here than the reference on 'LA Leakers Freestyle' 5/10

5 'Love You Anyway' - Luke wins 'most improved' this week, this is largely a snoozefest but it's one of his best songs that I've heard for not being actively offputting, hooray! I do quite like the instrumental tbf and although I will never not find this country accent to be inherently goofy and hard to take seriously I'm glad he's at least not doing his usual overbearing shouting 4.5/10

6 'Whistle' - this Jax Jones song sure does exist doesn't it? 4/10

7 'In Ha Mood' - I want to like Ice Spice more than I do but this is her most boring song that I've heard to date, it's just a stock drill beat with her stock flow and a total non-event of a hook. Why isn't 'Munch (Feelin' U)' charting instead, that's basically the same song as this but with a better beat and hook lol 3/10

8 'Special' - Lizzo seems cool as a person but I keep expecting to find her music more interesting than it is, sadly I have never got into anything from her much aside from 'Tempo' which is great and 'Truth Hurts' to a slightly lesser extent. This is her worst charting song to date, super boring and basic pandering 'motivational' song with absolutely nothing to it and lol at the lyric about 'cancelling'. I guess the SZA remix is a very slight improvement as I like her voice slightly more than Lizzo's but I think I'd still give both versions a 3/10

9 'Call Me What You Like' - sounds like the most indistinct of the landfill indie era with a bonus extremely cringe spoken word section which makes it slightly more memorable I suppose but not in a good way lol. Maybe I'm biased against this because I find Wilbur Soot annoying as a content creator but I do think I'd find this mid at best regardless of context 2/10

Another not great week but could have been worse, the Mae Stephens and Luke Combs songs were both better than I expected! Voted for the top 2 and pleased to see they are leading the results, although looks like no songs getting over 50% of voters this week.

Will get the next poll up probably in a couple of hours so time for any more last minute votes still B-)
