BuzzJack's favourite top 100 hit for 2023 week 13 and auto-qualifying for the March monthly round is Lana Del Rey - Paris, Texas (feat. SYML).

 

 

The votes were very evenly distributed this week with 6 songs reaching double figures but, for the first time, nothing managing to get to 20 votes. Also for the first time, we have a repeat winner - following the release of her 9th studio album 'Did you know that there's a tunnel under Ocean Blvd' (which already produced the poll-winning single 'A&W' 5 weeks ago), American songstress Lana Del Rey nabs the win with the support of just under 40% of voters with the album track 'Paris, Texas'. The song heavily samples the instrumental track 'I Wanted To Leave' by fellow American SYML, who gets a featured credit for it marking his first UK chart appearance. Sadly the album release didn't end Lana's wait for a top 40 hit as lead artist with both the re-entry of 'A&W' and this track entering in the mid to low 40s.

 

Lana's closest competition, landing just 1 vote behind (I haven't planned what to list in the OP if a winner ends up being tied hmm), is... her other album track featuring another first time chart act Jon Batiste. One further vote behind, FLO and Missy Elliott land in third place, much like with 'Cardboard Box' I am a little surprised they didn't win but still another decent result. BuzzJack fave Ed Sheeran manages 4th place with his latest #1 hit, maligned as ever but unable to be hurt by the haters due to the lack of negative voting in these polls. Fall Out Boy and Linkin Park both fail to replicate their previous poll wins but still do quite well to finish 5th and 6th both on double figures. A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie holds up the rear with just 2 votes with his belatedly viral single from his 2020 album (he had a whole new album since then, but you'd be forgiven for forgetting it existed), while the viral track from Amazon Prime series / fictional band Daisy Jones & The Six also falls just short of the 5 vote mark. Luke Combs is consistent as ever with another 6 votes, wonder if it's always the same 5 or 6 people voting for him. Hopefully this'll be his last entry for a while anyway.

After the lengthier lists of songs the last couple of weeks we're back down to 10 songs this week, totalling 30 minutes and 25 seconds. The top 5 songs, and 6/10 in total, are in all caps (as well as an artist on one of the other songs). At least we have Cat Burns' all lower case song title to calm us down a bit. We've still only had one song so far that got 0 votes, I have a feeling we might finally get a second this week. Oops at 'SLUT' being caught in the swear filter in the poll :kink:

Tyler's songs are classics in his catalogue! C'mon guys we need a rap song winner!

FLOWER, Lost The Breakup & DOGTOOTH are pretty much my 3 favourite songs that have charted this year. I'm still so happy that FLOWER made the top 40, I couldn't see it happening at all. Please let this be the breakthrough for Maisie too! :heart:

 

The Davido track is alright. I really like the featured artist on it. The NLE Choppa is naff but at least it's quite fun. VOID feels quite 'normal' for a Melanie Martinez track.

 

I think the Cat Burns tracks are getting worse, ANOTR is actually one of the less annoying dance hits of the year but still not my cup of tea and the Cian track is just another offensively tedious release from him.
