Don't think that's that bad actually for Ed considering the climate was expecting around 30k considering there is no hype for him

Really good album sales for Ed, higher than I expected. I assume he'll finish somewhere around 75-80k
they have to reset Florence, who cares about Maria Maria ;D

I’m surprised DDAO only peaked at #23 so giving that a reset would help it to re-peak. DDAO was originally released in 2008 and was re-released in 2010 following the success of YGTL

56K on the Tue mids is a flop for the biggest star in the planet no mater how you long at it

no matter what the stans will say trying to undermine any criticism made

Fastest seller of the year so far by a wide margin for an artist who, while very popular, most certainly isn't the biggest star on the planet anymore like he was 6 years ago, in an albums market that itself has been declining continuously for those 6 years, with an album that is somewhat less commerical that most of his past efforts. I can see a reasonable argument for it maybe being a slight underperformance, but flop is a massive stretch.

People are far too quick to throw the F-word around these days - I think those sales are about what anyone would reasonably have expected for Ed. It doesn't really make sense to compare the album sales against his biggest album, it makes more sense to compare against other albums released this year.
His album sales is down by almost 50% compared to the last album but it's not a flop? Despite a huge payola and streaming presence. I think people are getting tired of him and the mediocre cheesy music
Yes. But not streaming numbers. They will be added tomorrow.

That won’t amount to much :kink:

It'll eventually be the case that every single song apart from 'Mr Brightside' gets a reset. Wonder why the Killers' record company don't find a reason for that one?

Nobody was comparing it to his album Divide? His last album Equals was on 106k at this point in a bad sales market. The new album is on almost half of that! That's a huge decline in the space of 2 years

There's been no other major album release this year, would it make more sense comparing it to the sales of Miley Cyrus and Sam Smith's albums? :selena:

It also charted at #147 on the 2009 year-end chart without ever going top 75 (which was probably another factor in it getting a re-release). That could easily be done these days with ACR and streaming, but in the download era that's pretty amazing, it sold more than some of the top 10 hits that year.

I’m sure poor old Ed won’t be too bothered - he’ll end the week with his 6th #1 album with ease and another 2 Top 40 singles taking his tally to 60.

He also seems to be getting widespread media coverage as they have all jumped on the “fastest selling album of 2023” stat, I’m not sure anyone outside of Buzzjack would know or care about if his sales are up or down on previous releases, all that said he’s clearly (and has been for a while) out of his peak era but nobody can sustain that level of success in a declining market or otherwise.

And before I’m labeled a stan, Ed defender or any other term to discredit others opinions on here that has become the norm I haven’t listened to the new album yet and not sure I will this week.

I’m sure he’ll be at least a little bothered by the rapid downward trajectory his sales have been on regardless of chart positions

I'm screaming at the idea of fastest selling album of the year and it being #1 is being labelled a flop hahha.

Yes it hasn't performed as well as Ed's previous albums, and taking into consideration context of the current album market - those are healthy first figures for Ed.

Ed is doing great!! Really strong album and hopefully a sign of things to come. Does he really need huge numbers anymore...landscape is changing. Would rather have his best album by far released than something looking for big numbers.
I don't think it's been mentioned yet that The Lottery Winners aren't Top 100 in the midweeks. I wonder if they could achieve the biggest fall from #1 (for an album that debuted at #1). It would need to do worse than 1-126.
