Currently trying it, so far it's told me some of my history habits and also given me an update on the success of Padam Padam. This could change the charts quote a bit I think as it's coming across as a radio station but the talking is about you.

It also seems to reduce song times down quite a bit, giving a shorter version somehow

I actually really love it. It's so random but great at picking just the right things. Skipping through today I've had lots of dance, including my own faves plus stuff from playlists (e.g. The Loft), alongside classic tracks and at one point a run of Fifth Harmony songs because in its words "I don't listen to them anymore"

I think this will be really good for days at work when I just want the music to play for me without much input

Intrigued to try this but I have a feeling my 6yo sons listening habits whilst on my account will not quite give me the listening experience I desire!

Not convinced on first try - one artist I really like and then it felt like payola chart (Jonas Brothers, Dua Lipa & Anne-Marie)

Yeah hmm, I like the throwback parts because it's clearly using my listening history. But I've never listened to a Jonas Brothers or Tom Grennan song ever so i'm not sure why they were playing that to me...
I have no interest in finding out what this would play for me especially if it might involve unsolicited Tom Grennan x
Just started giving it a go, in the first few songs it gave me unsolicited Padam Padam

Gave it a go and these were the first 5 songs I got:

01. Måneskin - MARK CHAPMAN

02. Sub Focus & Dimension - Desire

03. Men I Trust - Ring of Past

04. Bass-o-matic - Fascinating Rhythm

05. Sega Bodega - Kepko

a strong selection based on what I listen to tbh, nothing unsolicited (maybe this good run wouldn't last too much longer though :kink:)

The first few tracks were good, then it started playing me that evil David Kushner :puke2: Confirms my fears that this can easily be payolaed. I’d rather shuffle my own library thanks x

The same happened to me. I got like 5 songs I liked and then it went to half a dozen payola songs, but after that it went back to interesting music.

But I figured out why this is happening. The AI works by having lots of different categories. For example things like "Songs that you've listened to recently", "Songs similar to ones you listened to recently", "Songs you don't listen to by artists you listen to a lot", "Songs you listened to in 2017", "Editor's Choices", etc.

The Editor's Choices category seems to be payola where record companies have paid money to have current singles they want to promote included in it (I got Jonas Brothers, Anne-Marie, Dua Lipa as well, so I think everybody gets the same songs). It also seems to be the 2nd category that comes up for everybody (it was 2nd for me and it seems it was for everybody else too).

You can solve this problem easily, there's a big blue button you can press and it will skip immediately to the next category. It also tells you what category the music is being drawn from on the UI at the top where it would normally say the playlist/album/radio station. I continued to listen through another few categories afterwards and I did actually get some interesting songs playing (including songs I haven't heard before but like), it's just a shame about the Editor's Choices category because I didn't like any of the songs they chose to be honest.

I don't have Spotify Premium to try it out but this seems like just an algorithm or a track radio but for your whole library on the description of it. Which isn't that groundbreaking and sounds like it's just put the AI tag on because that's hyped now (latest exhibit in no one having any clue how AI works)

plus apparently the AI talking but that can't be a selling point seeing as no one's really commented on it in this thread and the idea sounds horrendous

Ah okay, makes sense – a bit annoying but I guess we can't expect them not to use it as a new way of pushing current singles on behalf of labels...

At least they're fairly transparent with it and let you skip categories.

Oh no to be fair the AI talking is quite cool! He does like the intros whilst the song has started playing in the background just like on the radio, introduces artists by name etc.

It seems like everyone so far is getting Jonas Brothers, Dua & Anne-Marie  The ‘Editors Choice’ payola is strong
I haven't had anything like Jonas Brothers or Dua Lipa  I've just had current dance tracks instead, it's definitely supposed to be geared towards what you do listen to so I guess if you're more of a pop fan you'll get the current pop track's

I give this a bit of a go and it seems to be working well for me. All based on my taste so far. The first 15 songs were divided into 3 categories and were:

'Song for a Saturday morning that you know'

Mobb Deep - Up North Trip

Cam'ron - Killa Cam / Roll That Skit

50 Cent - If I Can't

2Pac - Pac's Life (feat. T.I. & Ashanti)

Eminem - My Name Is

'Listened to recently'

Alessandra - Queen of Kings

Teya & Salena - Who The Hell Is Edgar?

Madison Beer - Home To Another One

J Hus - It's Crazy

The Weeknd - Double Fantasy (feat. Future)

Haven't listened to for a few months

Hailee Steinfeld - SunKissing

Rebecca Black - Sick To My Stomach

Zara Larsson - Can't Tame Her

Taylor Swift - All Of The Girls You Loved Before

Strandz - Us Against The World

i found it funny how it said 'songs youve been loving recently' and then played 5 songs ive never heard before... from artists ive also never heard of before

Yeah I think the song selection is not much different to how the radio algorithm worked normally. But the AI voice is cool. It sounds quite realistic and you get an experience a bit like listening to a radio station where it will make comments about the songs played. So probably even if you listen to very obscure music it will probably find something off the Internet to read out to you about the song played. If Thinking Out Loud got played the AI might comment on the recent court case, for example.

Honestly if they add local travel and news updates into it wouldnt be far off the experience of a commercial radio station.
