June 26, 20232 yr I mean no shade by this but wow at Kelly Clarkson only on 2K-ish, has her popularity in the UK really fallen by that much over the years :o That feels like it may even struggle for top 40 unless there are pre-orders not added or something?
June 26, 20232 yr I really did think that Don't Say Love would be a pretty big hit with longevity. Of course it could rebound, but an inflated week 1 due to cheap signed CDs leading to a gigantic fall in week 2 isn't a good start. Edited June 26, 20232 yr by ChrisJK
June 26, 20232 yr Big album falls for the Pet Shop Boys and Niall Horan. Texas much less severe, I'd have liked all 3 to hold up much better.

It doesn't appear as though a song was sent to radio here, although BBC Radio 2 have her album as their album of the week. Her career has gotten very US-focused following on from her very successful talk show, so it's not hugely surprising. Particularly as her last album didn't have any notable success singles-wise and peaked at #11. I hope the album doesn't struggle for a top 40 placing though! It's her best since Stronger and really solid overall! :snif:
June 26, 20232 yr Maisie has an 8.1k lead over Elton (and like 7.7k over Harry in 2nd) so I’m hoping that should be enough for her to achieve the #1 album this week! It’s such a good album so I really hope she can ❤️ I've not heard the album but I enjoyed watching her Glastonbury set on the telly.

I believed Kelly could be in the running for a Number 1 until this update came through.

Sang was lucky to go top20.

June 26, 20232 yr I had no idea Kelly was releasing this week, so zero hype! Thoigh tbh, I woulda expected a top 2 album from her... Even though she's only had one UK Top 2 album before? (#2 - My December, 2007). I'm surprised that #1 or #2 was anticipated for this? This is surely her album with the least hype in the UK since her debut (outside of Christmas albums). Her music career has seemed quite flat to me since she signed with Atlantic.

But her album sales have always been really good!! :o And wasn't Breakaway a no.1??
June 26, 20232 yr Breakaway peaked at 3. Surprisingly My December is her highest charting album that peaked at 2!!

It is a bit surprising to see her flopping so hard (it likely wont make top 30) as all you need is a small fanbase and 5 formsts these days to make the top 10 or 5
June 26, 20232 yr Did Kelly ever really have that much of a fanbase tbf? Her album success seems to have always lived or died by the hit singles produced from the era (i.e. none at all from this one). I was surprised to see her album ahead of Maisie's on iTunes the other day!
June 26, 20232 yr But her album sales have always been really good!! :o And wasn't Breakaway a no.1?? End of Year charts: 2005: 8th - 952,631 - Breakaway 2006: 30th - 506,000 - Breakaway [1,459,000 at the end of 2006] 2007: 129th - 115,500 - My December 2009: 82nd - 181,000 - All I Ever Wanted 2011: 99th - 113,700 - Stronger 2012: 68th - 148,800 - Stronger [262,500 at the end of 2012] 15th December 2017 totals: 1,606,963 - Breakaway 275,227 - Stronger 205,594 - All I Ever Wanted 156,637 - My December 155,343 - Thankful 59,040 - Piece by Piece (certified Silver for 60,000+ on 11th May 2018) [released in 2015] 15,625 - Meaning of Life (this total was after 7 weeks on sale, its chart run up to this point was: 11-61-52-119-104-129-170...) [first week sales: 6,639] Chemistry's release is a few months short of 6 years since Meaning of Life, which is a long time to leave it between albums. (There was a Christmas album in 2021, I just mean ordinary studio albums). From my perspective she hasn't done much to keep the UK engaged with her, she's very US centric, and ultimately I think it's been easy to miss the fact she's got a new album, even if you'd consider yourself to be a casual fan of hers.

I thought it would hang around the top 20 for a few weeks and then maybe sneak a week in the top 10. It's actually a decent song, leagues above that garbage Jesy released however long ago it was now. Shame it's not coming for the hit it deserves.
