1989 (Taylor's Version) has been announced today! How will this re-recording fare in the UK? Vote in the poll and let us know what you've chosen in a reply. You can give a more specific prediction in your reply too!

Although the formats are not yet available via her UK store (Edit: they are now!), the US store indicates that there will be a vinyl, cassette and 5 CDs, although this could of course grow with the potential for more vinyl formats.

I feel like it's safe to assume that it won't open with less than Speak Now (67.1k), but I've put a couple of lower options in the poll anyway. I've also included some rather high sales options. Maybe Q4 could lead to something massive...

Some recent Taylor Swift album opening sales:

67,112 - Speak Now (Taylor's Version)

204,501 - Midnights

72,319 - Red (Taylor's Version)

21,145 - Fearless (Taylor's Version)

only 1 vinyl? She needs (we need!) to release more vinyl formats!

I'm also curious about how well 1989 original is going to do in the interim... it has 12 more weeks before Taylor's Version takes over! It's been in the Top 10 or Top 20 for the past few months. With the hype of this announcement I wonder where 1989 could be in the charts next week?

It's currently on its 437th week in the Top 200 (tomorrow will be week 438), it'll reach its 449th week on 1989 TV's release date. Beyond that it could get a few more weeks in the Top 200 (Speak Now original was #101 in the week the TV release went to #1).

I'm guessing between 100-110K at this time. I'm also thinking that it will probably spend at least 3 weeks at the top of the albums chart looking at the current release schedule. There isn't really anything that would challenge her except for Nicki Minaj's 'Pink Friday 2' which is out at the end of November.

There’s still loads of time for albums releasing around then to be announced.

i dont think itll be as big as midnights in terms of sales but i reckon it could do double what red tv did because of how popular 1989 was first time round, im guessing about 150k
according to a taylor swift twitter update page 1989tv has already scored the 2nd biggest single week pure sales of 2023 (in the us that is), only behind speak now taylors version. that is after being available for roughly 2 hours... omg

I know, thats why I used the words "probably" & "current". Also I do think unless the artist(s) is a massive seller it may be off-putting to release an album during the weeks after due to her high streams & sales after debut.

I’m aware of those words used. I reckon something will come about by then though, even if it’s just another Ball & Boe album.

I think it could be on par with "Red" because it has a simlar number of hit songs as that album but I put a little higher at 80 - 90K. This has Shake It Off, Blank Space, Wildest Dreams and Bad Blood and is a bit of a overall pop fan favourite.

Went with 110-120k. With the 5 collectable CDs available for a few days only I'm guessing she'll bring out some vinyl ones too? As we saw with Midnights that will help massively, and obviously fully expecting this to do huge streaming numbers / more than the other Taylor's Versions we've seen so far.

I think just how high it can go depends if she brings out signed versions or not. The signed CDs boosted Red's sales massively and helped a lot for Midnights too so if she does do those I reckon it could be even more than 120k.

I don't think there's any doubt that this will be her biggest selling (TV) album yet. 100k+ seems likely at this point.

As an aside though, do albums still sell more in Q4? I feel like that was the case when CDs were big but it doesn't matter so much these days?

Think we might see Blank Space (TV) or Shake It Off (TV) getting to #1 in the singles too

I still believe she'll be the one to break the 100k+ barrier this year. 1989 was a very popular era here first time round and there are alternate CD covers which should help to boost sales. Speak Now (TV) had no alternate covers or signed CDs - intrigued to see if she adds some of the latter for this

120,000 - 129,999

Yeah, this being released Q4 and the 4 CD variants (and I presume a couple more vinyl variants on the way?) this will do over 100k... I'm gonna say about 112k.

even speak tv had 3 vinyls

There has to be more vinyl coming

I also thibk q4 means nothing now

People are buying for themselves in 2023

Not as xmas presents

Only artists like ball & boe and similar are bought as xmas present for your nan

Can definitely see it doing over 100k but any more specific prediction would definitely be a total guess x I'll say 110-120k + yes to it having more than one week but probably not more than 2.
