Biography

Fred again..

Born in 1993, London-based songwriter/producer Fred John Philip Gibson treats his electro and rave-inspired songs as diary entries. But the artist, who performs under the name Fred Again.., doesn’t limit the subject matter to himself. On albums like 2021’s Actual Life (April 14 - December 17 2020) and its sequel, Actual Life 2 (February 2 - October 15 2021), Fred invited his friends into the studio to record their personal stories and then sprinkled them throughout the album. (The obvious exception was an epic Kodak Black sample on “Kahan (Last Year)”.) The songwriter has also worked with stars such as Eminem and Ed Sheeran, but Fred’s longest collaboration is with his brothers, whom he shares his tracks with before they’re released. “It’s such a blessing to work with both of my brothers,” Fred explained in an interview with Apple Music. “I’ll spend hours and hours working on a tune, and they’ll hear it how I will, but without all the baggage. They bring a fresh ear.” - Apple Music

Jozzy

Jozzy is an LA-based Grammy Award winning, multi-platinum songwriter and artist originally from Memphis,TN. Jozzy has been long celebrated for her pen game, and was mentored by Timbaland and Missy Elliott. She’s the woman who wrote Billy Ray Cyrus's verse on Lil Nas X's Old Town Road [Remix], “Lemonade” by Internet Money and “Mr Right Now” by Metro Boomin & 21 Savage feat Drake. Jozzy works across all genres with everyone from Coldplay and Rihanna to Pharrell and The Weeknd. In addition to her songwriting, Jozzy has embraced her own artistry most recently signing a record deal with Diddy’s Love Records, while being Co-Managed by Roc Nation. Jozzy has also embraced activism; as an LGBTQ+, woman of color in the industry, she’s repeatedly spoken out about the issues she faces and her hope for more diverse voices to be recognized and positioned across leadership roles in all areas of the music industry. - Spotify

Paloma Faith

How You Leave A Man

1st single from The Glorification of Sadness

Released: 11th October 2023

Label: Sony Music Entertainment UK

Biography

Paloma Faith joins Adele as the only British female artists this decade to have their last three albums go double platinum in the UK. She won the BRIT Award for British Female Solo Artist in 2015, and her stunning 4th album The Architect marked her first UK #1 record. Paloma Faith’s comeback single, How You Leave a Man, is a zero-tolerance barn-burner about not sticking with the monotony and neglect of domesticity. Instead, the British pop superstar suggests packing your bags, emptying the bank account and driving off into the sunset, ideally soundtracked by epic violins and a distorted guitar solo. “Remember what I told ya,” she sings, her voice towering and severe: “This is how you leave a man.” The song drops on the 11th of October. - Spotify

Yay for Kenya, and great top 3! All solid tunes. Hope Tate can grab a eeek at the top soon
Really good No.1, always nice to see a non-superstar A-list kind of artist get to the top, and it's the sort of song I'd more expect to have stalled in the mid top ten so it's good to see it go all the way.
Kenya Grace is the second British female solo artist in history to achieve a UK Number One with a self-written and self-produced track, after Kate Bush. I hope she continues to build momentum in her career.
Does that not include Tori Amos with Professional Widow, I make that third.

Professional Widow is a dubious one, Tori definitely did not produce the version that made #1 given it was the Armand Van Helden remix (with the original not being on the single at all)

No sales thread yet. :o
great that Kenya finally made it! I never thought i'd ever see Yeat in the top 5 of the UK singles chart but here we are, if the rage renaissance is finally properly hitting the UK then I hope the songs are actually good lol. I'm also massively pleased to see that J. Cole now has a Top 5 single :cheer:

Please have patience, it's on its way but I can only do things so fast (especially when I've been non-stop since I woke up this morning, including hosting this very thread for 2 hours almost immediately after work)

impressive for Kenya Grace, the first surprise chart topper since Escapism! (and given the strong PinkPantheress vibes it does slightly make up for the OCC cheating Boy's a Liar out of #1)
