Well done for doing a list though x

My initial cull took me down to 68 songs and only 30 of those were pre-2000! (With the usual caveat that there are a ton of old hits I either haven't heard or have only heard about once or twice and don't remember well enough to hold them in high regard xx)

Me bringing the total to 42 votes *.* Douglas Adams intensifies

Not holding out too much hope for the results - I think 3 of my top 4 picks barely received a vote from anyone else!

Sérgio Mendes featuring The Black Eyed Peas – Mas Que Nada

The Piranhas - Tom Hark

There were only two songs with one point from one voter and one of them was mine. Some of you will not not know Tom Hark from the title but you might know it once you've heard it. It's often used as a football chant, such as being Thierry Henry's theme tune when he was at Arsenal. The original recording by Elias and his Zig-Zag Jive Flutes reached number 2 in 1958. The Piranhas added some lyrics and got their version to number 6 in 1980. The other song here was first recorded by Sergio Mendes in 1966. He recorded a new version forty years later, adding a sample from the Black Eyed Peas' song 'Hey Mama'.

Bobby Brown - Every Little Step

The Farm - Groovy Train

Lulu - The Boat That I Row

M.C.Miker"G" & Deejay Sven - Holiday Rap

Morrissey - Last Of The Famous International Playboys

Years & Years - If You're Over Me

With Harry Cross from Brookside in the video, this was the first of just two top ten hits for the Liverpool band (if you only count All Together Now once). Last Of The Famous International Playboys is one of two Morrissey singles to receive votes. Bobby Brown also loses the first of his two. Going back to 1967, Lulu is rowing her boat.

Electric Light Orchestra - Roll Over Beethoven

Gerry and The Pacemakers - Don't Let The Sun Catch You Crying

Dean Martin - Sway

Five ELO songs received votes which is more than any other act. The only other acts I can think of that have five number 6 singles are Elvis Presley and Cliff Richard, both of whom had only one of theirs picking up a vote. If anyone can name any other acts who have five or more number 6s, please let me know. Roll Over Beethoven was first recorded by Chuck Berry in 1956 and it was only yesterday that some of us were listening to the Beatles' version on our synctube listenthrough. ELO's cover from 1973 is by far the best. The album version is eight minutes long and it's this extended version that's been performed as an encore for most ELO concerts in the fifty years since, by the original line-up of the group or Jeff Lynne's current touring band. It's retro dominance on three points with Dean Martin's 1954 hit and Gerry and the Pacemakers' single from ten years later.

Don’t Let The Sun Catch You Crying is my favourite Gerry And The Pacemakers song and a really sweet ballad - quite different from most of their others

Absolutely Fabulous - Absolutely Fabulous

The Gap Band - Oops Up Side Your Head

Iron Maiden - The Clairvoyant

Janet Jackson featuring Q-Tip and Joni Mitchell - Got 'til It's Gone

Sigala and Ella Eyre - Came Here For Love

From 1980, this was the Oklahoma group's first hit, leading to a sitting on the floor dance craze. A remix returned the song to the top 20 in 1987. Absolutely Fabulous was a pseudonym for the Pet Shop Boys who recorded a single for Comic Relief in 1994 featuring sound clips from the sitcom. Janet Jackson loses the first of her three songs while Iron Maiden lose the first of their two.

Just noticed 3 songs I missed voting for in others' votes, and from some quick maths they appear to be on 70, 70 and 73 points - hope that'll be enough!

Baby Shark really got more than 4 points? I thought it would have only my 1 point.

EDIT: Whatever. I just saw who gave it more points. ^_^

Edited by Jason

Sergio Mendes' version of Mas Que Nada is kinda iconic, so I thought it deserve at least 1 point from me, despite my unfamiliarity with the BEP version.

Came Here For Love is one of the good Sigala song! Pitch Perfect fans would surely notice the song on the third installment. ;)

Shirley Ellis - The Clapping Song

Hear'Say - Lovin' Is Easy

Joe Jackson - Steppin' Out

Julian Lennon - Saltwater

Mann featuring 50 Cent - Buzzin'

Billy Ocean - Caribbean Queen (No More Love On The Run)

Rozalla – Everybody's Free (To Feel Good)

The Rock Steady Crew - (Hey You) The Rock Steady Crew

Written in 1991 about climate change, the first of the two 'Saltwater' songs drops out early, the other one was much more popular. It's also one of two Julian Lennon singles to reach number 6. His next best chart peak was number 40. The youtube pick was close between that song and Joe Jackson's excellent Steppin' Out from 1983. The Rozalla single picked up votes from three people but still only manages five points. There's a one hit wonder for the Rock Steady Crew and the original version of The Clapping Song which goes back to 1965.

Axwell featuring Max'C - I Found U

Electric Light Orchestra - Sweet Talkin' Woman

David Guetta featuring Ne-Yo and Akon - Play Hard

The Nashville Teens - Tobacco Road

10cc - The Things We Do For Love

This is the only ELO song I didn't include in my own vote but AH Gold came through to give them a full house of five. It was the third single from the 'Out Of The Blue' album to peak at number 6. The brilliant 10cc are here with The Things We Do For Love from 1976, another one that missed out on my vote. Four David Guetta singles received votes and the first one drops out today.

Joel Corry - Sorry

Gina G - I Belong To You

The Human League - Being Boiled

Jakatta featuring Seal - My Vision

M People - Sight For Sore Eyes

Olivia Newton-John - Sam

Tom Robinson - War Baby

Amy Studt - Misfit

TLC - Creep

Being Boiled was the Human League's debut single in 1978 but failed to chart. It was re-released in 1982 after the huge success of 'Don't You Want Me'. Also appearing are Tom Robinson with his great song from 1983 and Olivia Newton-John with her ballad from 1977. TLC lose the first of their two songs.

Stevie B - Because I Love You (The Postman Song)

Howard Jones - Things Can Only Get Better

Elvis Presley - I Just Can't Help Believing

Ed Sheeran - Happier

Wu-Tang Clan - Gravel Pit

From 1985, this was the fifth out of six top 10 singles for Howard Jones. Five Elvis Presley singles peaked at number 6 but I Just Can't Help Believing was the only one to receive a vote. Ed Sheeran has three with two of them scoring points and Happier is the first to appear.

Boney M - Daddy Cool

Lyte Funkie Ones - Girl On TV

Kylie Minogue - Giving You Up

Alan Price - Jarrow Song

Pink Floyd - See Emily Play

Roxy Music - More Than This

This is surely the best top 40 single to utilize a brass band. Written about the 1936 Jarrow March in which more than 200 people walked from the North East of England to London to protest against the unemployment and extreme poverty they were enduring, it was a fourth solo top 10 hit for the former Animals keyboard player. See Emily Play from 1967 was a rare hit single for Pink Floyd while Daddy Cool was Boney M's first hit. As expected, all four of Kylie Minogue's number 6 singles received votes with Giving You Up proving to be the least popular.

S'Express - Hey Music Lover

Billie Jo Spears - Blanket On the Ground

Tenpole Tudor - Swords Of A Thousand Men

From 1981, this rollicking song was one of four top 40 hits for the English punk band who are still going. The American country singer, Billy Jo Spears, is here with the first of two top 10 singles she had in the 1970s and Hey Music Lover was the third hit for S'Express.
