Puppy Love above Paradise City is one of the more surprising results I've ever seen in a rate 😂

Someone gave points to Baby Shark? Good grief.

I voted for both Baby Shark and Puppy Love. 2 pop music classics definitely!

By the way, Baby Shark is at #56 in the UK chart today. :o

Another Level - Be Alone No More

David Bowie - Blue Jean

Electric Light Orchestra - Shine A Little Love

Goldtrix presents Andrea Brown - It's Love (Trippin')

Kelly Rowland featuring the WAV.s - Down For Whatever

Shakedown - At Night

Shine A Little Love was the lead single from ELO's number 1 album 'Discovery' and was the fourth consecutive single by them to peak at number 6. Another Level had eight top 40 hits with three of them reaching number 6 and Be Alone No More is the only one of those to receive a vote. David Bowie also had three number 6s. While no one voted for The Laughing Gnome, the other two picked up votes and Blue Jean drops out here.

Akon - Right Now (Na Na Na)

Daniel Bedingfield - I Can't Read You

Doctor Spin - Tetris

Erasure - The Circus

Erasure - Ship Of Fools

Yvonne Elliman - Love Me

Gabz - Lighters (The One)

David Guetta featuring Emeli Sande - What I Did For Love

Jamiroquai - Cosmic Girl

Kylie Minogue - Shocked

The Sex Pistols - Pretty Vacant

It's double Erasure as their singles from 1987 and 1988 receive 18 point scores from two different voters. David Guetta and Kylie Minogue both lose the second out of four songs. Elsewhere, we have the third top 40 hit for the Sex Pistols and Ash Grey, a contestant from the 2013 series of Britain's Got Talent, also known as Gabz.

I do really like Ship of Fools but it seems so odd with hindsight that they chose it as the lead single when A Little Respect was right there, or even Chains of Love tbh

Rick Astley - She Wants To Dance With Me

Michael Buble - It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas

Gabrielle - When A Woman

Lutricia McNeal - Ain't That Just The Way

Pink - There You Go

Vanessa Paradis - Be My Baby

Perfecto Allstarz - Reach Up (Papa's Got A Brand New Pigbag)

Cliff Richard - My Pretty One

Nicole Scherzinger - Boomerang

Papa's Got A Brand New Pigbag was firstly a top 3 hit for Pigbag in 1982. This version was released in 1995 by Paul Oakenfold (who appeared two days ago with Starry Eyed Surprise) and Steve Osborne. It's been adopted in many sports, including being Sol Campbell's theme tune when he was at Arsenal. The rest of the songs on 19 points are by a variety of solo singers to suit most tastes.

Chris Brown - Yeah 3x

Fats Domino - Blueberry Hill

The Look - I Am The Beat

Marillion - Incommunicado

Mandy Moore - Candy

Nelly - N Dey Say

The Ordinary Boys vs Lady Sovereign – Nine2Five

Passengers - Miss Sarajevo

Soul Central featuring Kathy Brown – Strings Of Life (Stronger On My Own)

2 Chainz and Wiz Khalifa – We Own It (Fast & Furious)

Passengers were Brian Eno and the members of U2 joined on this song by Luciano Pavarotti. The lyrics were based on a beauty pageant held in war torn Bosnia as an act of defiance during the siege of Sarajevo. Incommunicado was the lead single from Marillion's fourth album 'Clutching At Straws', the last one with Fish as their lead singer. Blueberry Hill dates back to 1956 while I Am The Beat by The Look from 1980 is memorable for having a run-out groove that would endlessly repeat the last few seconds until the record player's needle was removed from the vinyl single.

Lost another one of my votes here, a bit disappointing that Shakedown only got 3 more points outside my votes! D: 'Pretty Vacant' was also very close to my votes.

My second favourite Daniel Bedingfield song is gone!

But generally not too many sad losses in that last group.

I don't think I've lost any votes yet :o but the likes of 'At Night', 'Hot' and 'It's Love (Trippin')' are pretty good dance tunes.

I gave my Erasure best of vinyl a spin the other day too and forgot how much I enjoyed 'The Circus', has some fun production.

Depeche Mode - See You

Gat Decor - Passion (1996 remix)

Calvin Harris and Sam Smith - Desire

Ja Rule featuring Ashanti - Always On Time

Karmin - Brokenhearted

Stretch & Vern present "Maddog" - I'm Alive

See You from 1982 was the first Depeche Mode single to be released after the departure from the group of Vince Clarke. It reached a higher peak than any of their previous singles. A regular on these polls is Calvin Harris with two songs this year and the first of them goes out here.

Bryan Adams - The Only Thing That Looks Good On Me Is You

The Average White Band - Pick Up The Pieces

Brandy featuring Kanye West - Talk About Our Love

Eminem featuring Joyner Lucas - Lucky You

Lovefreekz - Shine

Snap! featuring Summer - Welcome To Tomorrow

So just a day after Shine A Little Love by ELO goes out, the dance tune that samples it also appears. Lovefreekz was English producer Mark Hadfield. Bryan Adams and Eminem both lose the first of their two songs while the classic funk instrumental, Pick Up The Pieces, a US number 1, is also here.

The Boomtown Rats - Like Clockwork

Lawson - Standing In The Dark

Kendrick Lamar - N95

Midnight Oil - Beds Are Burning

Morrissey - First Of The Gang To Die

Rudimental featuring James Arthur - Sun Comes Up

The Shamen - LSI

Santana featuring The Product G&B - Maria Maria

Ed Sheeran - Celestial

Special D - Come With Me

Written about Aboriginal land rights, Beds Are Burning stalled at number 48 in 1988 but was a bigger hit when re-released the following year. Morrissey and Ed Sheeran both lose the second of their two songs. Maria Maria was an American number 1 for Santana and Like Clockwork from 1978 was a first top 10 single for the Boomtown Rats. Their next two releases both got to number 1.

The Dave Brubeck Quartet - Take Five

Janet Jackson - Runaway

NF - Let You Down

Pharrell Williams featuring Jay-Z - Frontin'

Take Five was recorded in 1959 but wasn't a hit until 1961. It went on to become the biggest selling jazz single of all time. Janet Jackson loses another song but she has one more left.

Me being the only person to vote for 'N95' then, no surprises there, if anything I'm just surprised that seems to be the only one that I was the sole voter for! (assuming my top 6 did all get at least one more vote which I've not checked but would be shocked if any of them didn't).

I think 'Beds Are Burning' is the only other one of those announced today which survived my first cull, another discovery from Todd in the Shadows' One Hit Wonderland series. 'Frontin'' and 'Lucky You' are good tunes too though.

A bit disappointed nobody else voted for Take Five but glad Rollo’s featured the video - it’s an all time great jazz instrumental. Give it a listen and you’ll probably think “oh it’s that tune!”

Edited by JulianT

I don't think I even spotted Take Five to be honest

But yes, a great track

Not Gabz getting 19 points *___

Karmin was a favourite of mine at the time, don't think it's aged the best though.

Take Five and First Of The Gang... were on my longlist. Would like to have seen Beds Are Burning and N95 a bit higher too. As it was, though, the only one in this group that actually made my list was +1 for guilty pleasure Come With Me!

Sarah Brightman and Hot Gossip - I Lost My Heart To A Starship Trooper

Coldplay - Hymn For The Weekend

Iron Maiden - Wildest Dreams

Level 42 - Running In The Family

Manfred Mann's Earth Band - Blinded By The Light

Ocean Colour Scene - The Circle

Lionel Richie - Truly

Shirley And Company - Shame Shame Shame

Blinded By The Light was a cover of a Bruce Springsteen song from 1973. It was the second top 10 single for Manfred Mann's Earth Band added to thirteen more under the Manfred Mann name. They have one more song to come as do Level 42 and Coldplay. Also here are an 18 year old Sarah Brightman with her classic space disco song and Lionel Richie with his ballad from 1982.

Bryan Adams - Cloud Number 9

Kosheen – Hide U (remix)

The Notorious B.I.G. featuring Puff Daddy and Mase - Mo Money Mo Problems

Regard and Raye - Secrets

Mark Ronson & The Business Intl. featuring Q-Tip and MNDR - Bang Bang Bang

Sigala and Paloma Faith - Lullaby

From 1999, this was a remix by Chicane of a Bryan Adams album track. Another remix is the Kosheen song from 2001, the original version of which only got to number 73 the previous year. Sigala makes his second appearance, combining with Paloma Faith who has another song left.
