Think Hozier is gonna be #1 by about 3500 thousand sales

Over 3 million is quite impressive, Elton John's record finally broken :o

Hozier isn’t exactly comparable to those two

he wasn’t even a one hit wonder before this year anyway as the follow up to TMTC went top 20 and even so he’s been an album seller since

True but for the average music fan TMTC is probably seen as his only big/memorable hit.

The singles off Khruangbin's album have been streamed more than those from VW's too, not huge WW numbers but still 8m, 6m, 4m vs 5m, 2m, 2m.

Father of the Bride was overly long and full of absolute dirge, became the third year in a row where a previous massive favourite act of mine released what was comfortably the worst album I listened to that year, following Arcade Fire and Arctic Monkeys

I’ve been a huge Vampire Weekend fan from the start. Father of the Bride was indeed a poor album, particularly by their high standards, but the new one is a definite return to form. Don’t condemn them for ever just because they made one sub-par album.

By that logic though, Rick Astley is a one hit wonder for the same reason (at least for a fairly large age group). I don't think the 'has heard of Hozier but only knows that one song' window is as big.

and some for Kylie, everything from I Should be so Lucky to Can't Get You Out of My Head would be flops despite having like 20 top 5 hits or something, and same for everything post-Can't Get You Out of my Head

I think that's really pushing it, but you do you.

A tremendous artist

They're also the opposite of Tame Impala in that Lukas Graham is surprisingly a band! Although down to a duo these days it seems.

How ridiculous of an example considering she had 4 other #1s in that period. Spinning Around is also just as iconic as those 2

Fair point. Maybe rather than one hit wonder I should have said one top 15 hit.

He knows exactly what he's doing here, f'kin troll.

I'd say 'Locomotion' is arguably more widely recognised than ISBSL (for better or worse), and of course there's 'Especially For You' which is a million seller, 'Spinning Around' is widely known among a variety of age groups too. Of course it's up for debate how well-known various other hits are but yes, an utterly stupid thing to come out with even by their standards.

Wat

So how comes take to church didn’t get to 1?

It had one of the slowest climbs ever and was a huge seller so it just didn’t quite have a big enough single week.
