April 21, 20242 yr I think at this rate it could well be though! Kinda itching to know the sales. Is it climbing in streaming? Would be great if it was as it is such a catchy tune.
April 21, 20242 yr Cardigan never went to number 1! Anti-Hero erasure. Edited April 21, 20242 yr by tgl92
April 21, 20242 yr Is it climbing in streaming? Would be great if it was as it is such a catchy tune. It’s the 2nd most streamed track (by her) on UK Spotify atm!
April 21, 20242 yr They waited too long tbh. I feel like they should’ve done a Destiny’s Child/Cheryl and started solo careers while they were still active as a group. I don’t know if the interest is there for them individually anymore, it has been 13 years since they won X Factor! Camila Cabello is another one who started a solo career whilst still in the group as she had that hit song with Shawn Mendes whilst still in Fifth Harmony. I always wondered why so many pop stars feel it's necessary to dramatically split from the group to do solo music. I think in a lot of cases it would be beneficial for everybody involved if they all stayed together and did solo music at the same time. The Black Eyed Peas dominated after Fergie and will.i.am's solo albums and they also got #1s with collaborations OMG and Gettin' Over You and still continuing as a group, none of that drama and I think it worked out really well. Like I think it's fair enough if Jesy Nelson wanted to solo tracks but I don't know why she had to leave the group to do that.
April 21, 20242 yr The opening track and first official single from the album, Fortnight would join Taylor's other UK chart-toppers; Look What You Made Me Do (2017), cardigan (2020) and Is It Over Now? (Taylor's Version) (2023). How unprofessional and embarrassing for them to be making gaffes like this! And what's even more embarrassing is that that they still haven't bothered to correct it
April 21, 20242 yr Well Cardigan is miles better than Anti-Hero so i'm taking this as a sign they've just recrunched the numbers and retrospectively changed the charts. Like when they gave Sam Ryder's Spaceman the #1. :P
April 21, 20242 yr fortnight is the one ive been obsessed with, so im v happy its looking to be #1! would love my boy only breaks his favourite toys to get its moment but i reckon itll be i can do it with a broken heart and the tortured poets department joining fortnight as her top 3 this week!
April 21, 20242 yr I do really quite like Fortnight actually, it's got a very moody tone in a compelling way. I'll give it a free pass to dethrone Hozier for now after all lol.
April 22, 20242 yr This morning's papers have quoted sales for 'The Tortured Poets Department' so far this week as being 183,826. That will have been the sales in yesterday's midweeks.

My prediction of 240K won’t be massive off it seems then, looking like if it’s done 183k with 2 days and all the pre orders I reckon it’ll land around 250-260?
April 22, 20242 yr Looking like 250 minimum though if there wasn’t a limit on songs probably 300+ minimum

April 22, 20242 yr Isn’t this more than 30’s first update? 30 not ending up as the biggest debut of the decade would be crazy. On the Monday mids '30' had sold just under 167k and that is with an extra day of sales. '30' finished with 261,856 at the end of its first week.
April 22, 20242 yr Crazy sales for Taylor! Obviously I knew it would sell bucketloads but wasn't expecting it to challenge the opening week sales of 30 :o
April 22, 20242 yr Unlike Adele, Taylor's physicals will be very front-loaded after day 1 but hopefully she keeps doing well on streams
April 22, 20242 yr Unlike Adele, Taylor's physicals will be very front-loaded after day 1 but hopefully she keeps doing well on streams True, but a lot of sales from her store didn’t ship yet, at least not on Friday-Saturday that’s this number here we’re talking about. Anyway… yeah, amazing. If not limit of songs we would have gotten to 300K but hopping to pass 30! The streaming numbers of 30 weren’t very impressive so that can be interesting.
