I doubt he would have said anything had it not blown up like it has.You can't call someone hypocritical for U-turning on something when you forced their hand, effectively. If he wanted to do it right and stick to what he actually believes in (whatever he said about music and children blah blah), then he would’ve posted it on social media instead. I guess he never did believe that, so why should we believe that he has understood he was wrong in a span of just 2 days. Give me a break.

Give me a break. He can't really win here though, can he?He posts on social media, obviously turns comments off (because we all know it's just going to be a full-on dogpile) and gets criticised for it. He speaks about it at the concert, gets criticised for it. If he didn't say anything either on social media or at the concert, he'd get criticised.People are entitled to be frustrated/angry with him for how he has handled it. Even I think it has been handled badly. What I have an issue with is this impossible standard yourself and others are holding him to.And before you come at me and say "we just want him to stop dancing around the point", of course, I'm not disagreeing with that, but it's almost as though unless he words things in exactly the way you want him to, it's not good enough.I don't believe for a moment that he doesn't care, but is trying to separate his personal feelings from what he says publicly and has gotten himself caught up in this mess instead. I imagine he'll see it through and then lay low for a while. When people put pressure on people like him to say something/make a statement or whatever, the implication on his end is probably "I'll say sorry/address it and maybe it'll die down" because why wouldn't you think that? But everyone knows that was never going to happen, regardless of what he said. People are looking for additional reasons to be angry, and that fake post yesterday is just another example.

September 20Sep 20 Dismissing people’s opinions as ‘personal bias’ is a bit lazy. We all have our own views and feelings about topics because we experience them through multiple different lenses that are deeply personal to each of us. We can’t talk about a topic like this and claim we are being objective (if that’s the supposed goal), this just doesn’t exist. Nor is it a topic of this thread.

You'd be forgiven for thinking Ed Sheeran contributed to it, the way people have reacted.I think it's weird and uncomfortable that people are angrier at him than those who are actively contributing to what's going on.Nobody is claiming he personally ends genocide by speaking up. It's about him having an easy, low-cost chance to show basic solidarity and choosing not to take it, because it risked his relationship with a billionaire and his own bottom line. Those are completely different claims, and collapsing them into each other is exactly how people talk themselves out of holding anyone accountable for anything. It is nonsense to say that if you're not the primary cause, you're apparently exempt from criticism entirely.Ed Sheeran getting bad press and bad comments for a week is not remotely similar to the years of criticism against Israel. It's naive at best (and disingenuous at worst) to suggest otherwise.
September 20Sep 20 I absolutely despise the term ‘personal bias’ and get irritated whenever someone uses it in here even in much more trivial discussions. The fact that it always seems to be brought up whenever anyone discusses Ed Sheeran is quite telling too. It’s an attempt to shut down discussion and invalidate someone’s opinion and I’m not here for that.

It's not "telling", it's just true.Disagreeing with you isn’t the same as attempting to shut you down.Yes, many of us never liked Ed Sheeran in the first place but that doesn’t mean we’re only critical of him here for that reason. A lot of people have been critical of Ed who previously really liked him. He’s made some bad moves and deserves criticism.Look, in this very thread I’ve criticised one of my all time favourite artists, don’t throw it back to me and say I just hate Ed.

When HE does it, it’s fine, right??! f*** his hypocritical ass. It’s crazy. He wants people with opposing views to be able to enjoy his concerts, but can’t back a “friend” when he gives his view? Opposing views are not to be messed with when it comes to politics. The only time “opposing views” should mean so little is when we disagree about which pizza toppings we like or our music tastes etc.. political opinions literally have an effect people’s lives.SNL UK did a wonderful segment about this situation yesterday.“Say what you want about Ed, but he’s always been a passionate advocate of causes that are allowed” 🥲
September 20Sep 20 There's no need for him to apologise and I share his sentiments about his concerts being to unite people not divide them. If someone wants to boycott his concert on moral grounds that's up to them but I'm sure most of his fans couldn't care less about his lack of political views. I suspect he's gained a few fans from this publicity too. Given the choice between upsetting a few fans who decided to boycott your concert and upsetting the fans who would turn up regardless it's a no brainer really.
