Which platform is Down Bad outdoing WAOLOM

Oh and all the Taylor tracks got a boost today

Does anyone know why streams at the top of the chart have skyrocketed recently?

It's great to see, but I can't think of a reason that explains it happening so drastically and so suddenly. I get why Taylor, etc. would have huge streams but what about all the other songs.

Have loads of people simulatenously decided they like current pop music again? I can't figure it out.

When it first happened I thought it was just coincidentally a few big hits at the same time but it's happening again and again and again and I think it's just the new normal now. But why? It annoys me when a big shift happens in the music market and I can't figure out the reason.

Either Spotify has recalibrated how it counts streams, the auto play feature is being used to push certain songs more or just generally more people are using spotify.

2024 is a golden year for music. So many big names releasing albums, country music booming, big rap beef, a lot of big hits. Only thing not going well is the UK scene really. People probably financially better than the few years too.

theres still another 7 months of the year, im sure we'll get some british releases in that space that will do well, calvin harris will surely have a single as hes been teasing, im sure there'll be some rap music from the likes of dave or stormzy to come too!

I agree, I'd go as far as saying 2024 is my favourite year of the decade so far in terms of music. I hope Gaga and Rihanna release this year too! Can we imagine :cheeseblock:

The presence of UK artists in the single charts has never ever been lower

been following the charts for ages and certainly I cannot recall the top 10 having 0 or 1 UK artists max and

like 2-3 in the top 20 like we have nowadays...

guess cos it's tiktok making global hits rather than local but sad to see anyway

Not to mention UK rap almost completely falling off the charts for some reason. It was so dominant only 3-5 years ago.

In all fairness that's a good trend, most of it was dogshite.

The dance seem seems to the best bet of getting some decent home-grown chart success, and I'm sure it won't disappoint as we approach summer.

I can’t help but think billie might get a streaming resurgence in the next week, it’s incredibly catchy. Sabrina seems to also be coming down too compared to the last few weeks.

This year really has been a standout year for me, I think 2019 was the last time we had a run of fairly big hits during the spring and summer. I honestly think country and folk having a moment this year has been the biggest impact though, it’s created much more variety than we’ve had in a long time genre wise and it’s probably been more appealing to the masses than the dance/house/rap dominance we’ve had for a good 6 years or so now.

will be interesting to see if Dave's (likely) album release this year does better or worse than his 2021 album
