The numbers don’t really add up, ppp has been ahead on apple and Spotify each day so I’m assuming something like vinyl’s being shipped probably added a few to espresso total to make it seem closer but the streams are going the other way so it could well be #1 next week again, but for this week it seems closer due to physicals I think.

The gap between them on Spotify has shrunk quite a lot.

Espresso could in theory be ahead on Spotify now due to the premium / free ratios. That might make sense if more younger people are listening to Please Please Please and the established hit is reaching a wider audience. Just a random theory but the point is we don't know.

Wouldn't say impossible but would be weird for team Taylor to "tactically" block gracie when it was basically given free promo during the acoustic section last night even as much as them performing the duet

Yeah, not sure Team Taylor will go after Gracie this week seeing as Taylor’s on the album etc.,

Hopefully Gracie holds on, based on last weeks sales she should be safe enough to hold off Taylor,

Great to see brat holding up so well, would never have expected 3 weeks in the top 10 but it's deserved.

'BRAT' having similar numbers to what it had on the Monday midweek last week (annoyingly a number wasn't published last week but it was between 2.8k and 4k), helped out a bit by the 'Girl, so confusing' remix which is presumably pushing 'Von dutch' into the zone of its streams fully counting to the album calculations. Would be amazing if it can manage a third week in the top 5!

Why are people shocked about Petrie? That song is so generic and like 2010s sounding, it was clearly not a hit.

Does anyone know where Espresso/Please Please Please are on Amazon? This could be key to explain why they're so close despite the huge difference on Spotify. I personally think the difference will grow thru the week.

Pop industry is so fickle these days, and the songs sound so generic with over processed vocals and over nuanced production (for example, I'm listening to Charlie XCX Talk Talk now, and if you'd told me it was a Sabrina or Little mix, i'd have still believed you) - that it's really a matter of flavour of the month or not. For some reason, LM's solo careers couldn't take off like the 1D members.

 

To be fair 1D members solo careers outside of Harry's haven't really taken off either.

I think a big problem facing Little Mix's solo careers is that unlike 1D, 99% of the public wouldn't be able to name a member of Little Mix.

 

Seriously impressive for Brat if it gets a 3rd week top 5, she hasn't had an album even get 3 weeks in the top 40 before now!

When they first came on the scene though there was demand.

 

ZAYN was straight to #1 with a huge single and loads of demand.

 

Liam had a big hit straight to #3 (without need of physicals to just reach top 10 for a week like Perrie) which had some longetivity and multiple top 40s

 

Louis same as Liam really and Niall has had a long stable career.

 

Heck even Jesy could have had that demand as she released not 2+ years after the break; she even saw bigger numbers despite a terrible song. Had it been a good song she had a real chance.

The difference is not really huge. There has been 50k between them the last two days combined but in theory should be a slightly bigger lead that can be explained by physicals or the ratio of premium streams.

 

Little mix were together 11 years and had one number 1 album when one direction were the biggest thing in music so you can’t compare the two. Little mix were more similar to JLS than one direction

Yeah, One Direction started to launch their solo careers about five years after their first hit, Perrie has launched hers 13 years after Little Mix's first hit, that's a huge difference.

 

They haven't exactly struck while the iron is hot with their solo careers, but considering how long they've been around, how much music consumption has evolved since they started out, and how badly UK artists have fared in the charts this year, I think top 10 for Forget About Us was very respectable, especially as the song sounded straight out of the late 00s/early 10s.

 

Tears sounds at the same time both more dated and possibly more in vogue with current trends than Forget About Us, but it's a far weaker song in my opinion, she'd have needed something top drawer to get another top ten and this isn't it.

I wouldn't say that's true at all, JLS lasted like two years and declined very sharply after a big debut first album. Little Mix kept on growing right up until their 4th album.
