I think the issue is being on a season with so many ESL queens it becomes harder for Alyssa to have the same type of impact as she did on her previous seasons if that makes sense?

Kind of striking really how outside of the werkroom entrances we don't really see the queens interact in GAS. Outside of Alyssa & Tessa being friends and Kween and Kitty disliking Nelly I have zero idea now at episode 8 who in this cast might be friends or like each other.

So you can create narratives more naturally from the get-go. Agreed with that, I think without those pre determined links to make storylines they have absolutely no idea how to edit the entire season and piece together episodes. They’re giving Kitty wins just for “aw I didn’t win this on my first season”, they’re making Kween seem like some unstoppable force just because she’s a Ru girl, everyone else bar Nehellenia and maybe Tessa basically has no edit.

 

With Vanity, I’ve said a few times but she has been thrown into the bottom just as a sacrificial lamb to avoid putting Alyssa there. When really, she has had such a strong glow up since her season with her personality and to see her have a “getting out of her head and slaying” arc. That’s more judging than editing, but I think none of the non Ru queens bar Nehellenia having any kind of storyline or arc (bar Tessa maybe) is a big part of this all seeming underwhelming. In pulling the international queens, they have all been cast aside and there’s been no time or opportunity to craft an interesting narrative around them.

The most impactful queens on this season for me are definitely in order Nehellenia, Vanity, Tessa, of this top 6.

 

What production also missed is that focusing on the queens most viewers will already know is kinda boring - ESPECIALLY if they havent markedly improved - when we also have new queens to look at.

 

This season delving into franchises a lot of viewers arent familiar with makes it almost a new season of the show perception wise - which then makes queens like Kitty and Kween and Alyssa seem more like returning queens like Shangela or Vanjie getting another shot instead of like an AS where we see everyone's growth and improvement.

This episode was gross… finally some fair judging and the queens who have won 3 challenges already were nasty about it? Nelly fully deserved this win from where I was standing.

Has Kween or Kitty even publicly addressed their behaviour yet?

Kween has just like half apologised (or basically said “but I apologised after”) but basically brought race into it as apparently Nelly repeated a comment Ru made in the judging about Soa finally looking like a star because she looked like Kween.

 

Kitty and Nelly are clearly friends now, it’s Kween there is still problems with. Tbh as much as I don’t like Kitty, she has just been unfunnily shady and self centred/arrogant, Kween gets more and more pointed and nasty imo.

 

For me it speaks volumes that none of the Aussie local girls have anything good to say about Kween! Kween has a point about how POC are treated and how they have to wor harder to be seen, I totally get that, but her reputation proceeds her and she can’t bring it back to race when she is behaving like this and is deservedly called out.

I thought the episode overall was quite good and the judging fair for the most part.

 

My favourite part was during the walk through with Ru with Miranda shading Kitty 3-4 times :lol:

 

It was great to see Nelly win a challenge! I actually thought Kween & Soa were the strongest/most deserving of the win, but after Kween's outburst I'm happy Nelly won. Like wtf?

 

I think I would've had Tessa in the bottom 2 over Kitty to be honest. Even though Kitty was basic I thought she did the family resemblance better. Although honestly they're calling out Kitty for being basic but Alyssa was just as basic to me? :lol:

 

Poor vanity :( I really liked the outfits but Gala's hair and make-up was not great.

 

Kitty won the lip sync although not by much - was a rather boring lip sync to be honest. Ru was probably more laughing at how sloppy Kitty's death drops were :lol:

There is no way Kween deserved to win when she put Soa in an outfit that looked like that :lol: Also I agree Alyssa was basic, a decent effort and definitely more impactful and elevated than Kitty, but in my judging Kitty was gone so I actually had her bottom two with Vanity!!

 

I always kind of hate the makeover bc family resemblance, whatever, Tessa’s makeover was head and shoulders above the bottom two and honestly… better than Alyssa’s. I think I’ve said this before, but I genuinely think she has it in her contract to not be low or in the bottom so she never hears negative critiques :lol: I mean, the makeover critiques wouldn’t have been that negative just maybe that her concept and look were a bit more basic than the others.

 

Alyssa want necessarily low though I just thought she was third worst, her and Tessa could have both just got positive critiques as it’s a clear bottom two this week.

Me too, I feel like she could have done anything and Ru would have laughed and ate it up. It wasn’t Vanity’s best lipsync but she easily beat Kitty, of course they couldn’t send a precious Ru girl home on their first bottom against someone they’ve thrown in the bottom multiple times over the Ru girls.

No shade but every time I see Kitty I think to myself ln the scale of Drag Race she's maybe a 6/10 or maybe a 5 in some aspects and yet the show is telling me she's as good as Danny Beard or the Vivienne.

I hate family resemblance nonsense — it's never consistent and is just something they use when they want to put someone in the bottom arbitrarily. Athena looked fantastic and they had the best concept and performance — I honestly thought they had a chance at winning until the critiques started.

Tessa's makeover and their runway performance together was my personal favourite.

 

Saw a comment on reddit that really resonated - the judges' comments are acting like this is a first season for most of the queens and like Alyssa, Kong and Kitty are special guest mentors or somthing. The comments they made to Soa about her makeup 'finally' looking good were not comments that should be made to someone who already nearly won her first season...
