It’s not helpful at all I agree

A lot of people saying suicide and calling out all his past problems with alcohol and depression and mental health demons. It’s been like 3 hours since the news broke and people already feel like they know what’s happened. It’s kinda sick. Reminding me of Nicola Bulley how they brought all her personal stuff on to the table to make it make sense when there’s an actual person and family here having to look at all this shit.

I also agree - speculation isn't helpful at all, would be helpful if we could stick solely to the facts (at least for the benefit of the fans who are reading everything that's coming through and having to put up with people's speculation alongside what's already some horrifying and shocking news)

Regardless whether it was a suicide or accident, the world is a tough place for struggling artists with drug and alcohol problems and mental health issues. If they are still in the industry, the industry doesn't support in any way.

This needs it's own thread.

He fell from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Police said they first attended the hotel after reports of "an aggressive man under the influence of drink and drugs"

RIP. One Direction were huge,

RIP :/

feel sorry for him, he had been dragged on social media for the last month, wonder if this has to do with it

There was already a Lounge thread made on this last night and it combined with the one in the 1D forum so would expect the same to happen here, FYI.
God how awful, always feels chilling , especially in these circumstances, when it’s someone around my age and someone that has been famous since I was a teenager, doesn’t feel real and I was hoping it wasn’t.

Yeah I think it's hitting hard for me as well because we saw the One Direction phenomenon play out in real time from the very start, so they were a part of my teenage years too in some way as a former X Factor viewer. In Liam's case, his own journey with the show stretched back even further to 2008 and I remember him on that series too, so in the public eye to some extent since 14 and now still only 31 - just a few years older than me too. RIP :(

Still struggling to accept that this has actually happened, it genuinely feels quite surreal. Such a sad day :(

So Sad.

I was thinking of him this morning, before saw the news, and asking myself, did he made an LP2, LP3 after LP1. Look like no.

Really bad news, he was so young.

What’s the difference from posting in here and posting in the 1D forum (or any other AF)? It’s still the same forum…

You’re not discussing the music with this kind of topic. Just go in say “R.I.P. very sad news” or whatever and leave?

Idk why they're wording it as fell when he so clearly jumped.

From what I've read and the alleged hotel room pictures it seems like he was so off his face he didn't know what he was doing. The hotel staff apparently denied him use of the pool due to how intoxicated he was so people are theorising that he jumped from his third floor window in an attempt to reach the pool which seems plausible imo.

The other thing is the timing of it, didn't one of his exes just come out in an interview this week and explain how abusive he was? That he would threaten suicide as a means to manipulate her telling her if anything happened to him it would be her fault... Also the allegations of him messaging underages girls, forcing his now ex to have an at home abortion at 19 so the media didn't find out etc there's been so much that's come out about him over the last few years that does make it difficult for me to sympathise if I'm honest.

Of course that doesn't make it any less tragic, I know he's struggled with addiction and his mental health. I think most people mourning him will be thinking of the teenager that was part of their favourite boy and not the abuser he later became.

RIP. Really shocked me to see when I woke up this morning.

I don't know much about how his life went in the last few years but he always seemed like a good centre for the 1D boys, though perhaps in the background compared to the louder personalities in the group. Really sad to see him gone so young.

Agreed completely. The ex speaking out is completely new to me and I had no idea about any of it until I was browsing Twitter last night and the fans were swarming her IG comments blaming her for it all. Your last part is important too and well said.
Associated Press has updated their story with quotes from Buenos Aires police about the emergency call and arriving on the scene

Reading the quotes here made me particularly sad. There’s people in my life that have struggled with drugs and have felt like their whole life has been ripped from under them, I can say I’ve done everything I can to be there for them but this situation has made it hit home how easily this could have been them.

Coupled with the fact this is someone we have seen grow up in such an intense spotlight and is a similar age to me, I can see I’m going to be very reflective on this situation for a while. My thoughts sincerely go out to his loved ones.

I wasn’t aware at all of what was going on in his personal life so that hasn’t really factored into my feelings on the matter, but yes it’s awful that anyone is trying to put the blame onto anyone. I suppose it’s just something that was bound to happen given the intensity of the fanbase but I wish people would sit back and realise they don’t truly know anything about what’s been going on. They don’t even really know the people involved yet act like they were personal friends.

should be better here, I would never ever eve ever would venture into the 1D forum sorry

Just gonna say this is probably the most insensitive thing I've seen on here regarding this. Grow up.

We don't know precisely how he fell, so let's not speak with such certainty about what happened because it's pretty horrible to read as a fan of almost 15 years.
