I think it was just a way to get people talking for SNL, a little promotional single. She did the same thing with another song, The Subway, awhile back

i imagine there is no real reason, except she just hasnt! I anticipate we'll get info regarding it in the new year as i doubt we'll get a release this side of christmas, but also, its not guaranteed that 'the giver' will be released anytime soon, look at her other song 'subway' she was singing that all summer at shows and festivals and yet still nothing!
