I never said someone should be able to shoot him dead. I just don’t understand how you can have sympathy for someone who hates every single cell in your body and wouldn’t feel a single drop of sympathy if you were to be a victim of gun violence.

He quite infamously said that gun deaths were worth it to keep the 2nd amendment. He literally thought that if you were to be shot, that was a price worth paying so he could own a gun. That is how little you are worth to him. So why would you elevate a literal garbage can higher than he would you just because he has a family

Some of the worst a most disgusting humans to have walked the earth had families. Don’t mean we mourn them. So why this skidmark?

The Democratic lawmakers who were assassinated a few months ago got a tenth of the coverage this will likely get.

Kirk's views were abhorrent and his influence among young conservatives was not a positive one. It is ironic he was openly talking about gun violence and downplaying the right-wing support of gun violence in America as he was shot and killed. I would also rather that advanced democracies do not have political violence but America and particularly Republican America and the values that Kirk espoused has enabled this.

That 2023 quote and the fact he was answering a question on gun violence too just makes that pure karma on the universe's part.

It's hard for me to mourn such a toxic bigot with such dangerously far-reaching influence to spread his bile, I'm sorry for his family but he's no loss to the world. I'm more worried about the fallout that will follow though - he'll be seen as a martyr and his influence will continue, the misinformation will be absolutely rife and things could get really nasty (not that they weren't already mind x).

Honestly, there will be more uproar about this than school shootings.

I saw the video first which was obviously horrifying.

He's someone who I know existed but had tried not to pay attention to, and it just turns out that there are far too many quotes excusing violence in general, gun violence in particular (specifically 'I think it's worth to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the Second Amendment to protect our other God-given rights. That is a prudent deal. It is rational.'), empathy being a 'made-up new age term', raising funds to bail out the attacker of Nancy Pelosi's husband. And the smorgasbord of racist, Islamophobic, anti-abortion, anti-LGBT bigotry as well as the conspiratorialism that aren't necessarily ironic but made him a horrendous person. All that and the irony of his last words being about gang violence before being shot in one of the whitest part of the US. So the secondary reaction is: lmao.
