This is quite random, but Million Dollar Bill having a Platinum cert is absolutely baffling to me. The song is sitting on less than 50 million streams on Spotify but it somehow managed to shift 200k units in the UK in just over 3 years between 2020 and 2023? The UK must be massively over-represented in that song's global numbers.

The Freemasons remix was just as popular as the original at the time too.

That's an interesting list! From Eva Cassidy & Katie Melua - What a Wonderful World onwards, they're all charity singles. So the last "normal" #1 (without an attachment to charity) to be uncertifi

Very pleased to see 'Slow' finally get passed the Silver mark. Strange it's taken so long, it's much more of a classic than its sales would suggest and doesn't deserve to be a part of this list of #1

Their only certification in the digital age was "Rockin All Over The World" going platinum in May (which was missed by this thread!) so we would only be able to calculate that song's retro certifications (no clue where you guys find the specific pre-94 sales figures!)

Ukmix list of best selling singles of 1986 has 'In The Army Now' as 333,693 sales

I think it really was only a big hit primarily in UK and Ireland. I was surprised to see it go from Gold to Platinum so quickly too whereas other more classic and recognisable Whitney hits like "So Emotional " and "Saving All My Love For You" have yet to earn any post 1994 certifications.

I can only speak from my experience but I've found 'Million Dollar Bill' to be really popular with my friends in the 25-30 age bracket. I assumed it must have gone viral on TikTok or something because it felt like an unusual choice to catch on with everyone.

I'd say the Frankie Knuckles remix is quite well-known in the way the Freemasons remix is.

Yeah it went viral on tik tok last year, someone remixed it but it would of helped boost the original sales too

Hot ‘n’ Cold now ahead of I Kissed A Girl as the biggest song from One Of The Boys. Definitely aged better out of the two, though I do have a soft spot for the IKAG rock remix.

Hamilton Cast - Meet Me Inside

Still loving how there’s a new hamilton cert every other week now, and there’s still 19 more tracks from the musical that hasn’t been cert yet.

One Direction - Diana

One of their best songs for me, glad to see it go silver (I believe their 10th deep cut to go silver?)

Boyzone - Gave It All Away

Anyone know what this has been doing weekly, if I recall correctly it sold around 150k in 2010 so if my math is right it is only about 58 units per week?

And assuming it keeps at that pace, would reach gold status by December 2089, lol.

Is all the Million Dollar Bill talk the Whitney Houston song?

I’ve looked back through the last few pages and can’t see it.

Thanks. In the army now - Do YouTube views (82m) & Spotify streams (161m) get included in retro sales or just downloads?

Yes , the Whitney song from 2009. Worth watching her X Factor live performance of the Freemasons Mix version on YouTube. It was a watercooler moment back in the day..but not for the intended reasons... 😛
