Well done to Elton, nice to see quite a few albums climb to No.1 of late - Chappell, Charli, Ed, Elton. Feels like it stopped happening for such a long time. I know three of those four were prompted by new editions or formats and price cuts though so it's not quite the same as back in the day.

I think all 4 of those were to some extent, also the case when Noah climbed to #1 early last year, but nice to see it can still happen.

Sam Barber missing the top 40 because they decided to give Sam Smith a reset
Sam Barber missing the top 40 because they decided to give Sam Smith a reset

i think the sam smith reset is valid as the song is genuinely popular rn, i am personally blaming jimin for this as his reset did nottttt need to happen smh

Yeah, Jimin is definitely the case that deserves the most ire here I'd say

(Plus Sam Barber is obviously gonna make it in anyway so it doesn't matter too much)

Jimin would've been top 20 anyway without the reset. I'll blame the BBC letting Chappell win Sound of 2025
I think Jimin is quite sus, as he isn't doing much of anything streaming-wise on Apple/Amazon and his performance on spotify wouldn't warrant a top 5 position this week even with a reset. Normally acts like Jimin do really good on youtube which can make up for lack of streaming on other platforms but his youtube views are very low... I would say maybe high physical sales perhaps? Did he release a special CD as well as getting a reset? He hasn't been charting on iTunes top 200 from what I can tell.

He's not in the sales top 100 so it must all be from those Spotify numbers

Pity this one has fallen, hope it gets a boost

So La La La and TIWYCF have had a resurgence on tiktok!
Tiwycf is back as there’s a vip mix as an Amazon exclusive. I’m assuming that gave it a manual reset as it was being “pushed”? Or it did do enough for an automatic one I’m not shee

Wow the charts are off to a farcical start this year with the OCC blindly accepting blatantly illegitimate Jimin streams to the point where he's nearly repeaked (the lack of appearance in the weekly city charts on Spotify is the dead giveaway, it was the same when Bad Boy Chiller Crew's 'BMW' was first charting with obviously inorganic rises and falls from day to day although it did go on to become genuinely popular) and the spurious reset for 'Pink Pony Club', I guess fair enough it was the label's decision to manually reset it for a new single push but whyyyy must they re-push a 5 year old song that's already had its run :') I'll also give a pass to 'La La La' re-entering as by all accounts it's genuinely gone viral again, but it's a bit of a joke that the combination of these re-entries has confined 2 genuinely interesting new songs to #41 and #42 for the week. Ah well, am sure both will still continue to climb, hopefully 'Headlock' can still make it in the coming weeks too although that is far enough out of the top 40 that it'd still be missing out sans the shenanigans.

Shame that the Jimin situation has denied 'Timeless' a return to the top 10 as well. Not much else of interest to me in this week's top 40 but I still need to check out the SZA and Doechii songs so opinion pending on those. Happy that Elton managed to hang onto #1 in the albums chart after all, felt like it should have got the week at #1 post Glastonbury 2023 but at least it's finally got there now and not just because of sneaking in on a dead week from its lingering streaming tally. If I had a penny for every time this year Sabrina Carpenter has been denied a week at #1 because of new physical formats for a greatest hits album by one of the artists involved with 'Merry Christmas'... that'd be 2 pennies in 2 weeks :magic:

Jimin is at #35 on weekly Spotify for the UK, but not top 100 in any of the 6 cities (Birmingham, Bristol, Glasgow, Liverpool, London, Manchester). But hey maybe he's popular with a lot of comparatively 'rural' folk.
