Biography

Self-produced British composer and recording artist for over 20 years, Imogen Heap has released five solo albums, another as one half of Frou Frou and collaborated with countless and varied artists including Taylor Swift, Nitin Sawhney, Deadmau5, Jeff Beck and Jon Hopkins. Her compositions and songs pop up in blockbuster and indie films as well as countless TV shows, are featured in underground rap and dance music and covered by the likes of Ariana Grande. As composer and arranger for one of the biggest hits in theatrical history, Harry Potter and The Cursed Child, Imogen won the Drama Desk Outstanding Music in a Play award. As a sought-after speaker and performer, Heap hosted 2020’s Grammys Premiere Ceremony. Heap’s collaborative and multi-dimensional workflow attracts companies for commissioned works, leading to songs such as Tiny Human, the first song to distribute payments via a Smart Contract, and The Happy Song, a highly successful song for children in their early-years. Heap, recognised as an artist's artist, has won two Grammys and an Ivor Novello award. In recognition of her pioneering work at the intersection of music and tech, Heap has a hat trick of three honorary doctorates for the gestural music-ware 'MI.MU gloves' system and recently for ’The Creative Passport’, an integrated digital ID solution, empowering music makers to be the change toward a fair and flourishing music ecosystem. - Spotify

Glad this is finally getting another play

love this so much <3 plink-plonk <3 up to a new peak and even being played!

I discovered Imogen via the Frou Frou cover of 'Holding Out for a Hero' on the Shrek 2 soundtrack and now the internet is heavily discussing Shrek 5 lol

'Headlock' remains wonderful, still can't believe this has experienced a renaissance - yay for the new peak.

Biography

Combining the diversity of Britain’s rich Black musical tradition into an eclectic hip-hop fusion, AJ Tracey charted a back-to-the-futurist trajectory to help recast the UK rap soundscape in the 2010s. Born Ché Wolton Grant in Brixton, London in 1994, his father was an Afro-Trinidanian former rapper and his mother was a Welsh pirate DJ. Tracey dropped out of a degree in criminology to pursue music full-time in 2014. His 2016 collaboration with Dave, “Thiago Silva”—a rejuvenation of Ruff Sqwad’s legendary grime riddim “Pied Piper”—played a pivotal role in grime’s mid-2010s renaissance. Tracey turned to his Caribbean roots for his solo breakout “Butterflies” in 2018 and evinced an eclectic savvy with his self-titled debut album in 2019, tastefully coalescing soca, grime, UK garage, and country into a versatile British synthesis typified by the 2-step wonder “Ladbroke Grove.” The nostalgic throwback to millennial Britain highlighted UK garage’s enduring esteem while demonstrating Tracey’s flair for modernizing British club tradition, an aptitude he testified to with “Dinner Guest,” a revisiting of DJ MK’s remix of Nightcrawlers’ “Push the Feeling On,” and the 2-step smash “West Ten” in 2020. Summoning the sounds of London, past and present, into vibrant, forward-looking hits, AJ Tracey is a standard-bearer for contemporary Black British music. - Apple Music

Crush is a bop, kind of nostalgic, reminds me of something that would've come out like in 2016

This is the first song played today I dont like. :(

Caught up with all the prep posts! Was listening along in the car on the way back, enjoying the JENNIE song somewhat (but Mantra is better), didn't like Fontaines D.C. that much. Whatever is one of the better Oasis songs I guess x

Biography

Selena Gomez

Talking to Apple Music in early 2020, Selena Gomez said the point when her career really started to shift was when she shot the 2012 movie Spring Breakers. Even if she hadn’t spent the first part of her life as a Disney kid, the movie—guns, drugs, so on—would’ve been the kind of deep-end leap that pop stars tend to be conditioned away from. Selena Gomez is famous. But she’s also a survivor of fame, a candid chronicler of mental health whose best music—“Lose You to Love Me,” “Back to You,” Dance Again”—has brought a degree of frankness to mainstream pop that feels both refreshing and necessary. “I think that’s how I’ve continued to have a career,” Gomez said. “I’m very okay with speaking about myself. I think that’s truly what has sustained me. And I don’t do it purposefully, I do it because it’s necessary for me.” Born in 1992, Gomez grew up poor outside Dallas, making her way into the Disney machine in her mid-teens, becoming the most-followed—and probably most-scrutinized—person on Instagram by her early twenties. She started releasing music with her band The Scene in 2009, going solo in 2013 with Stars Dance. By 2015’s Revival, she’d taken greater control over both her image and songwriting, leaning into a comfortable dance-pop sound that didn’t chase trends. In 2020, she released Rare, an album on which she not only cowrote every track but served as executive producer. She’d also taken a two-year break from social media—a career risk, but a personal necessity. “I was so much happier with just me, myself, how I looked, and that helped a lot,” Gomez told Apple Music. “I just needed to let my old self go.” - Apple Music

benny blanco

Before Benny Blanco was a name people put their chips on, the man born Benjamin Levin (in Reston, Virginia, in 1988) used to pretend to be JAY-Z’s lawyer to get label execs on the phone. It didn’t work, but it was a sign nevertheless: Here was someone with the hustle and ingenuity to make things happen. Raised in the suburbs of Washington, D.C., Blanco started making hip-hop beats as a teenager, messaging artists on MySpace from his school library and sleeping in McDonald’s while trying to land meetings on weekend trips to New York. His work—in particular a hyperbolically sleazy collaboration with party rapper Spank Rock called Bangers & Cash—caught the ear of industry powerhouses including songwriter-producer Dr. Luke (Katy Perry, Kesha, Britney Spears), who enlisted Blanco as an apprentice. From there, he became one of the most bulletproof forces in modern pop, writing for and producing artists from Ed Sheeran (“Don’t”) to Kanye West, Ty Dolla $ign to Sia, The Weeknd to Maroon 5 (“Moves Like Jagger,” “Payphone”)—resulting in a résumé that effortlessly yoked together the vanguards of mainstream pop, hip-hop, and R&B. In 2018, Blanco stepped out as an artist in his own right, releasing his guest-heavy debut LP, FRIENDS KEEP SECRETS—an ongoing release that he plans to continue to add songs to over time, and a rare, progressive turn for someone so well established behind the scenes. “I’ve been doing this for 12 years,” he told Apple Music. “After that long, it’s good to switch it up.” - Apple Music

This is good but it's waaayyyy too short. Could benefit from a middle 8 and a final chorus!
