The Giver's been doing extremely well so I don't think there are any problems at all. I do believe a poppier song (ie. less out and out country like this one is) could've been even bigger, though.

Spotify YTD Top 40 after Q1 That's So True still holds the lead here, unlike on the OCC list where Messy is #1, although I expect Ordinary will be #1 on both lists before too long. Additional positio

In the UK it hasn't done that bad compared to the US

where so far the Giver has gone 5-29, that's a catastrophic second week

and funnily its place in the top 5 has been taken by... Pink Pony Club, reaching a new peak this week at #5 in the US

Has it though? It peaked high and has consistently fallen away. This should be a huge smash considering it's Chappel's first release since blowing up.

Coming for an easy third week top 10, unsure how that isn't doing well.

It’s doing ok but for a single based around SO much hype and debuting with over 700k to fall to just 214k in 3 weeks is a pretty hefty drop and shows it’s not really connecting as well as it should be as the playlists are probably propping it up massively too.

It’s not a flop and it’s done ok but based around it being the first new song in years it’s a bit of a fail.

Did the new Miley track not chart at all?

I thought it was just the album intro/ prelude that dropped and the single is on Friday?

The Giver is fine, but nothing special. It's better than Hot to Go, which I absolutely despised. For me, I think Chappell and Sabrina are the best comparisons, in terms of fanbase size. In intrigue level, I think Chappell is even bigger. No Sabrina song had a first day as strong as The Giver did, I dont think name recognition is an issue at all. Another song could've been bigger than anything Sabrina has released. So to see her first song as an A-lister settle down around busy woman, the 5th biggest song off short n sweet, it shows to me that the average fan also saw it as nothing special. Also this comparison is why I don't think PPC took away from the giver, and actually probably helped the giver. Having Espresso be as big as it was helped Pleasex3, and both helped Taste. In this current era of music, releasing a 2nd song when the first is still hot only seems to boost both.

That said, I think now is the best time for Chappell to experiment. According to all sources, her album is nowhere close, with her producer saying probably next year. Having a song fade this quick hasn't hurt her star power, and you have to try new things when you're fresh or you get stale quickly. So to try new things that won't impact the next album, why not? No risk, high reward release. Got her a top 5 and proved that fans will be there for the release of her music, even songs they ultimately don't care about. For me, it says only good things about future releases

Sabrina at the time had Barry Keoghan giving her name recognition a big boost with viral music videos to the point she became a household name. Ask your neighbour who is Chappell Roan you’ll get a blank look

I'd say Sabrina and Chappell are equally as famous. They are both constantly brought up by everyone I know and "Hot To Go" has even become a local meme because of how often a club near us plays it. Even my grandma knows who she is and that's without me telling her!

As I said, she had a bigger debut day than Sabrina has, with no music video. Maybe she doesnt Sabrina level of name recognition, but she had plenty for the giver to be bigger if it was what people wanted

Debuting top 2 and pretty much on for a 3rd week top 10 is doing well however you try and cut it,

I'd go on to say it's pretty good considering how slow the spotify charts are proving to be

Not really a relevent post for this week's thread, but can someone tell me if there is a BuzzJack thread that exists somewhere for songs/hits not currently on streaming platforms?

  1. Ordinary - 660,439

  2. That’s so True - 367,198

  3. Pink Pony Club - 336,622

  4. Messy - 312,204

  5. Sports Car - 304,844

Anxiety tumbling down the list no longer top 5. Ordinary now top 3 global

Just after Feel Good Inc. finally makes the YTD, Spotify turns off its autoplay.

Big drops for that and Rather Be today.

Decent re-entry for PUSH 2 START, any reason behind that?

There's a thread for songs which peaked at each chart position 1-20, linking to Spotify playlists for the songs available there (an excellent resource regularly updated by Boymetworld91), and giving YouTube URLs for songs which aren't (or weren't) available on Spotify.

In the course of the site migration, those URLs have changed to YouTube embeds, so beware the pages may be slow to load and don't display those songs in a readable list as they used to:
