March 30Mar 30 "Twist The Knife" was my favorite of the Salvation album (my 2nd fave being the title track), it just gave Kim Petras vibes, so I'm glad that it ended up winning (even if it felt a bit obvious when I saw the semis for the first time). Sumner gave a good fight though, and it's good to see two of my top 3 as the top 2! Most of the top 10 wasn't too my liking, but I did vote for the entire top 3 so that's something (also Greenfroze which after that semi result THANK GOD) Glad to see Rontvia managed to fight their way to top half but expected them to do a lot better, and Hushky robbed as always 😔 I'm amazed that Elon Musk thing escaped wooden spoon, never underestimate the power of UltraUnseriousland 😂 I don't think I've had this long of a top 20 streak... ever, so Chungha giving me a 6th in a row is great, even if it underperformed the odds, her past two entries, and Jadakissnia, which means I'm just destined to be in the shadows. But I've been really focused on trusting my gut this time around and I'm glad that not overthinking it has gotten me so far. Thanks to everyone (especially the Asian pop fans who didn't abandon me, don't think I didn't see those high points!) who voted!I have something for next month and it's gonna take all of my willpower to not get carried away with some of the other potentials in my wheelhouse. With all the focus on Jade it just means people aren't expecting shit from me, and when people expect nothing you can get away with anything 😈 (now watch it DNQ bc this year has been going way too well for me)

March 30Mar 30 Congrats Josh! The song wasn't for me but I suppose it makes up for the narrow loss Rebecca Black had against my own entry the last time she was entered (I knew I was on to something in the mod forum xx) and of course, wonderful to see another first time winner after some time!I voted for a lot of that top 10 overall, Volta and Telephone getting there is a nice surprise given they were quite subtly effective entries. Absolutely love Eledan 18ing their way to the top 5, reminded me a bit of Ethel Cain's most recent project. Much as I want to still be bitter (and looking at the song that joint-beat me to 20th in the semis, I might still be... ) this was a really high quality contest which I made some great discoveries from.I see David Holmes did about the same/a little bit worse than my own entry by him pre-deduction so good to know I was onto a middling hit either way! Persephonia definitely shouldn't be last though and Aesthetica's entry was my favourite from them in some time (I had a different song from that artist as a potential a few months ago) and should've been higher.Thank you for the great and colourful hosting throughout, Klumzee (and Leww)!
March 30Mar 30 Congratulations Josh! Always happy to see a first time winner. I voted for 5 of the top 10 and two others were commiserations, including FARC - with that gap between 2nd and 3rd I really hope you get an AQ! Kraftwerk in 4th is fantastic as is Simian Mobile Disco in 9th. Shame to see my biggest retro fave this contest from Split Enz so much lower, but that's how it goes (also the second time Singerpurear have beaten me in a tiebreak!)I had no expectations and sent a song I thought would have been borderline doubtful to Q, so a unique position in triple figure points is fine and votes from 3 new nations is a nice bonus. Only receiving two scores from the second half of voters is kind of hilarious (maybe Josh or whoever hosts next could reveal the results in reverse order of receipt to prevent me getting my hopes up?), as is a 40th->2nd->35th trajectory, but I enjoyed my AQ experience. My votes in the semi didn't make any huge waves: semi 1 was pretty clean (shocked to see Greenfroze so low though) and in semi 2 my votes 3-6 especially were close, so I did wonder whether Terra Avium would have Q'ed with my 6, but it seems not, and I'm glad The Spodics made it through with a big grower since then.Thank you Patrick for your hosting, and to you and Leww for the colourful concept and presentation!
March 30Mar 30 Big congrats Josh, it was written in the stars for Rebecca to win one of these eventually, I was amazed she didn't win with TRUST! So close for FARC, what an amazing entry and discovery that was, ahh, nice to see my 18 do so well even if it wasn't quite a win. Most of my odds went ok in the end, not too far off on any apart from Mothertopia lower than expected and some (pleasant) surprises in the top 10, omg at Macromia making it. So deserved, such a unique song! Very nice to see Dandy's subtle song make the top ten too, a lovely track. It was a very strong final so I'll take 19th with that last gasp 15 from our amazing host, thank you! I definitely did hope this one would go top 15 but I guess it wasn't too far away on balance although did get some big overhype oops.Very surprised Kathaldazia and Aeroche missed the top 20! An extremely strong bottom five there, gosh, shows how good the contest was, I voted for three of those and liked the other two.Huge huge thanks and congratulations to Klumzee and Leww for providing such a beautifully formatted and presented contest, I'll happily come back here again any time soon!
March 30Mar 30 Two contests in a row with a country getting their first win more than a decade after debuting! (Albeit Ajanaeda having missed more contests than they entered since debuting but still x). I said during the semis that I would be surprised if 'Twist The Knife' won when 'TRUST!' didn't as I thought the latter had more crossover appeal but hey, here's your proof if still needed that pure pop can absolutely still win BJSC pretty easily (what with its only close competition being a song that is only slightly more 'alternative'). Interestingly ended up almost getting the exact same points total as 'TRUST!', just 1 point more. It was just inside my bottom 10 in the final so not a vintage winner for me but could be worse x(and yes no more Rebecca Black entries please lol)I'm much more in tune with the rest of the top 10 (well... top 9, sorry Dandy!), 5 songs I voted for and 3 more that just missed out - I did call Ninajirachi doing well but pleasantly surprised to see Kraftwerk and Ohota also making the top 5 <3 My bold prediction of Danæviiia being a win contender was obviously a little off lol but top 10 is good for that too and Macromia is the biggest surprise of the top 10 for me but love to see that too, grew on me a lot over the course of the contest! A new peak for them as well IIRC (oops my spreadsheet is a few months out of date again, need to find some time to focus on that soon xx). Also yay for top 15 results for Trifoski (doing slightly better than the Boy Harsher entries after all, but boo at a top 10 still eluding them x), Hendinia and Cumulonimbia + top 20 for Séyetana *.* Bronzil definitely sticking out as underrated this month although it did take a few listens to properly click with me in fairness so I can't be too shocked, also an ok result for Mothertopia but would have kind of hoped and expected it'd be contending for top 10 at least, there was another (also good) SASAMI song in the PopJustice contest this month and she came 2nd there!A decade on from me winning twice in fairly quick succession in BJSCs 67 & 74, I've done almost the exact opposite with wooden spoon finishes in BJSCs 167 & 173 but all part of the plan as the last wooden spoon crossed 41st off my unique position bucket list and now I've got 42nd as well so I'm down to only needing 30th and 40th to complete the whole set of regularly attainable positions. This is definitely a month of me just being relieved to be in the final at all so I won't complain, 11 of the 15 people who voted for me in the final were also in my semi so was a very lucky draw I guess, I wasn't even the one who qualified over Cadelicia because of their deduction! (I also got 11 votes in the semi but it wasn't fully one to one, as I got points in the semi but not the final from Kathaldazia and Scotland 2 and vice verse from Dobago and FARC). At least it limits the damage on the YTD chart a little bit (speaking of, stay tuned for my next post xo). Thanks again to Iz for ensuring I at least didn't walk away with zero medal positions, here's hoping I'll find something more competitive again next month Greenfroze going from 19th - just below me - in the semi to top 10 in the final! Thanks for the hosting Klum (+ Leww for the assistance x) <3
March 30Mar 30 Quick YTD update (I can't remember if I posted one of these last month or not) - very close at the top right now!I've dropped 8 places from last month lawlz but would have been a lot worse if I'd DNQed ofc x1 660 Kluminican Republic2 657 Jadakissnia3 642 Cor Lupus4 577 Fljótavík5 567 Aeroche6 558 Danæviia7 546 Bøtanikkä8 537 Ajanaeda9 531 Neliönoir10 529 Hendinia11 526 Altyr Muunilinst12 498 Lookylion13 493 Greenfroze14 481 Cumulonimbia15 481 Elëdan16 474 Persephonia17 465 Kathaldazia18 465 FARC19 460 Skall20 456 Bronzil21 437 Trifoski22 429 Why So Sirius23 404 New Lexico24 393 Séyetana25 361 FSR Rontvia26 361 Land of DW27 346 Aesthetica28 338 The Spodic Empire29 334 Mothertopia30 321 Macromia31 310 Kyriatine32 307 Dobago33 304 POPHub34 278 Hinterlandia35 278 Pestolia36 252 Lotunia37 241 Herbilore38 236 Zanmatony39 232 République d'Áskorza40 229 Singerpurear41 217 Taahino42 203 Ben's Sanctuary43 188 Cheiron44 164 Beaverdonia45 160 Yehesi46 157 Kylienips47 151 Terra Avium48 141 Jupiterdonia49 141 Oslol50 125 Aelandor51 125 Thelonia52 124 Eastovka53 121 Hushkanukia54 120 Scotland 255 114 Niceland56 106 Ultraviolenceland57 95 Summericia58 83 Conoria
March 31Mar 31 Congratulations Josh! So well deserved! 👏👏👏Really happy with how Crazy Stupid Love did. Love me going from winning my semi in the last contest I entered, to being 20th and just qualifying thanks to Oliver! 😂I’ll see you all again at some point when I decide to return for another one off. Adios! 👋
March 31Mar 31 From biggest joke on the internet to BJSC winner, this has been quite the redemption arc for Rebecca Black! Many congrats Josh, I'm shocked this was your first win And isn't it peculiar just how often a debut win is immediately followed by another, seems to happen quite regularly.I managed to avoid bottom 10 despite receiving the joint fewest votes in the final I'll take that as a win, of course this not doing anywhere near as well as my last phonk entry but we move, we move.Losing my +12 in the semi made this final a little weaker than I'd have liked but Elëdan's ASMR-beaut would likely have moved top of my rankings regardless. To see that finish top 5 is most pleasing.
March 31Mar 31 It feels very cool to win after debuting over a decade ago like Bre said, so thank you to everyone for voting and appreciating the greatness of Rebecca Black! I'm a bit shocked because I did think 'TRUST' sounded like a bit more of an all rounder but I do think that the way that 'Twist the Knife' builds is irresistible. In all seriousness, I've really enjoyed taking part in this contest since returning early last year, and I've been doing a lot better as a nation than I did back then so this is like the cherry on top. Bringing Mothertopia into the mix makes listen throughs at home much more fun. I'm sure I've missed out on some great stuff during my hiatus but now this contest has become part of our monthly routine.I thought this contest was incredibly strong and I added way more than 15 songs to my BJSC discoveries playlist on Spotify (a playlist that is nearing 24 hours long now!). My dream top three would've been the Semi Final 2 top three so it's a shame the other two fell away and didn't quite make top ten in the end. Finally, a big ty to Lew and Patrick for all the funky colours and a cool theme. Yous pulled off an incredibly well-organised contest, that went off without a hitch, and was fun for all involved. Bravo❤️
March 31Mar 31 Well done to you @Josh! For me, BJSC has been so much more enjoyable with you in it again! 🙂Will we all be taking our first ever trip to the lush lands of Ajanaeda next month then?
March 31Mar 31 Congrats to Josh for a first win, always nice to see a regular get there! Thanks to Klumzee and Leww for the fab hosting, and thanks to all Split Enz voters, I was expecting in the 30's, but have had a 34th before (and 15 peak between 31 and 39 but never had a 35th - doh! Should have given Jim that one extra point 😄 Thanks especially to Bronze and Silver pointers, Spod Empire and Bronzil Jim - oh the irony, our top pointer losing a tiebreak as a result 😮 and our pointers Jadakiss, Danev, Persephonia, Cheiron, FARC, Nelionoir, Macromia, Cumulonimbia, Kylienips, Trifoski, Lotunia, Summericia, Mothertopia, and Lookylion!!
March 31Mar 31 Congratulations to Ajanaeda for their debut win! 🥳 300 points is a nice round number. Listening to “Twist The Knife” as I write this, and I think it’s a pretty catchy tune. I gave it 6 points, while “Stranded” got my 13, so even though I would’ve preferred Sumner and FARC to win, I still liked it and I think it’s cool to see pop winning again. I can’t complain at all with that top 10, me being in 8th place and my 18 directly above me. Two top tens in a row for me is pretty rare, so I’m quite pleased with that as well, naturally, even though I had fewer voters than most in the top 20. It’s worth mentioning that I received four 18s (!), which is the second highest anyone got in this final (only by the winner got me beat), and I did notice that Stela Cole popped up in a lot of commiseration lists. “Stereoqueen” had some big fans, which is sweet, but it seems to have been liked by many, so I consider this entry a huge success in more ways than one. Yay! 😁I also think it’s funny how I ended up at 19th and almost DNQed in my semi. That disparity is funny, and I’ve noticed how that’s happened to me several times in the past, just the other way around with huge success in the semi and then plummeting in the final.I remember for instance being shocked to see how I won a semi final last year but having unimpressive results in the final. What was the record for that again? And there must be other kinds of records to be had here, right? Most number of huge swings/defying projections or something. In any case, thank you to everyone who voted for me, thank you to the host and graphic designer and thank you to most of you for sending songs I enjoyed 😊 Edited March 31Mar 31 by Freeze
