We are back at 4pm tomorrow! Quite an accumulation of bonuses to get through in the first couple of sessions, but we'll still cover 7 weeks of 1983 in each.

But I guess these ones are also kinda good x

Michael Jackson - Thriller

Thompson Twins - Hold Me Now

The Smiths - This Charming Man

The Flying Pickets - Only You

The Pretenders - 2000 Miles

xx Yes - Owner of a Lonely Heart

Not the best selection and not a lot of upbeat electronic tracks but there are still good tracks.

Howard Jones - What Is Love?

Yes - Owner Of A Lonely Heart

Blancmange - That's Love, That It Is

The Pretenders - 2000 Miles

The Smiths - This Charming Man

Genesis - That's All

Paul Young - Love Of The Common People

What Is Love? is better than 'New Song' and tackles a big question with great atmopheric 80s pop even if Howard Jones himself doesn't have the best voice. I have known and liked the song for a long time! It even has a weird Nero style dubstep type bit in it after the first chorus.

'Owner Of A Lonely Heart' is very good too it even has a breakbeat bit in it before the guitar solo.

Blancmange have a good Hi-NRG song that sounds like it will influence Dead or Alive and Bronski Beat - Why.

Pretenders '2000 Miles' is such a lovely song and Smiths 'This Charming Man' a good and upbeat tune. 'That's All' is a catchy jazz piano tune. 'Love of The Common People' always reminds me of Noah and The Whale LIFEGOESON the melody is so similar.

As someone else said not a great selection to choose from but the quality of music in the charts does tend to go downhill around Christmas. My 5 picks:

Ozzy Osbourne - Bark At The Moon

Tom Robinson - Listen To The Radio - Atmospherics

Tears For Fears - The Way You Are

Status Quo - Marguerita Time

UB40 - Many Rivers To Cross

Worst song:

Kenny Rogers And Dolly Parton - Islands In The Stream

7 Yes - Owner Of A Lonely Heart

Both brilliant songs, can’t be too upset!

May be a little late again but only a song or two x

(My bad for not reading the thread I guess but why was the poll closed a week early? I'm sure we haven't ever done that before - I'll post my late votes in a bit for posterity (I caught up on the songs I missed last Sunday), 'This Charming Man' will be in my 5 anyway so wouldn't have affected the winner...)

I've usually done it if there's a gap between years - means we can sort out tiebreaks in the second week if needed before moving into the next year.

Anyway, there's a big one to start 1984 with this week!

The full list of songs covered in today's session are on the next page. Here are my votes:

The Icicle Works - Love Is A Wonderful Colour
China Crisis - Wishful Thinking

Fiction Factory - (Feels Like) Heaven

Matthew Wilder - Break My Stride

Shannon - Let The Music Play

Commiserations to 'The Killing Moon', 'What Difference Does It Make?' and 'Wouldn't It Be Good' which would have made my votes in almost any other week.
