We are back at 4pm tomorrow! Quite an accumulation of bonuses to get through in the first couple of sessions, but we'll still cover 7 weeks of 1983 in each.

No! nono An important early fast dance song on the 1984 Hi-NRG scene which was big in that year! Btw on the subject of Hi-NRG I wonder what y'all think of Divine, I like their music after initially not liking the vocal style!

(I haven't gone to the synctube sessions yet sadly)

Not really a fan of Hi-NRG and I can't say I like Divine either, to me it's the 80s equivalent of 2 Unlimited.

It's an interesting comparison. As someone who, by and large, loved S/A/W but definitely did not like anything done by 2 unlimited i can't agree😃

with music context is everything, and HiNRG was designed to get the blood pumping on a dancefloor by upping the bpm's on traditional dance music, I agree SAW at their best were pretty exciting in the early days, and could still drop gems in the chart-dominating Hit Factory era. I did like 2 Unlimited first 2 hit singles though as well, again fun on the dancefloor before they got a bit samey.

I've always said a good dance record makes you want to dance, not curl up late at night with a cup of cocoa and a good book, and vice versa sticking an Ed Sheeran ballad on a dancefloor would get you complaints. I speak as someone who paid the price of moans for thinking it would be a larf at a uni digs disco to put on Jasper Carrott Magic Roundabout 😄Oh dear oh dearie me no, not a good idea 😄People just have no sense of humour when they want to dance...

Well Pete Waterman was the man who brought 2 Unlimited to the UK for a start. It's also quite normal to not like the modern equivalent of something you do like. Both served the same purpose, cheesy catchy music for the dancefloor but lacking any depth.

I think the difference in the main is that I quite like lyrics and a story and you don't get much of that with 2 Unlimited (especially with the UK mixes which stripped out the raps so we got even less)

I would have been unable to attend today as I'm at a motorway services waiting for a recovery truck so I shan't complain about this being put on hold for another week this time...!

So I’ll be back in time for the obscure song that was Christmas number one that year.

And the one that politely waited its turn for 39 years.

You should have put on Russ Abbot - Atmosphere.

Sade - Smooth Operator

'Why?' the best dance song, although the Ultravox - Love's Great Adventure is a bit like a precursor to an operatic trance epic. 'The Second Time' has long been one of my Kim Wilde favourites. 'Shout To The Top' I know because my parents are fans of 'The Style Council' and its a good political song. John Waite - Missing You is a great emotive power ballad.

For The Cars - Drive it is very like the synth bits from Paul Young - Wherever I Lay My Hat in that it is an atmospheric synthpop ballad. 'Together In Electric Dreams' and Wham! - Freedom are great classics too. Then one of Billy Oceans best Caribbean Queen. Sade - Smooth Operator is a nice song too.
