We are back at 4pm tomorrow! Quite an accumulation of bonuses to get through in the first couple of sessions, but we'll still cover 7 weeks of 1983 in each.

An exact snap with Chez 🤩 even down to 'Let's Dance' being a near miss.

Caught up on everything I missed today and 'Last Film' remains the best discovery of the day, what a closer.

Blancmange - Waves

Bonnie Tyler - Total Eclipse Of The Heart

Kissing The Pink - Last Film

Ultravox - Visions In Blue

New Order - Blue Monday

Let's Dance in 6th place for me as well.

Blancmange - Waves

Kissing The Pink - The Last Film

Michael Jackson - Beat It

New Order - Blue Monday

Ultravox - Visions In Blue

2 great discoveries there from Kissing The Pink and Ultravox, the Blancmange song was introduced to me by Jade a few years back, and ofc the other two are all time classics. Next best songs I already knew were David Bowie and JoBoxers and other good discoveries included Big Country and Malcolm McLaren. Not the best week overall but a strong top 5 as ever x

(4/5 matching with both Chez/Jade and Rollo! Sorry to be the first to not vote for Bonnie Tyler but I have never had particularly strong feelings about that song)

doh! been away so missed the vote! Not that it would have changed the result:

Wah!

Eurythmics

Michael Jackson

Men At Work

Prince

Ultravox - Visions In Blue

Kissing The Pink - The Last Film

In general the 1983 charts have less songs I really love than 1981-1982 I think! Probably because new wave goes more poppy and/or less electronic/dancey. With the exception of Blue Monday of course.

I have to go with the most ahead of its time track first even if it is a bit overrated in media.

I think The Darkness were influenced by the style of guitar in Big Country! Also in Fields of Fire some guitars that sound like bagpipes - unique. The Joan Armatrading track Drop The Pilot is her best and has a nostalgic jangle pop sound to it. Duran good song but they have better. Tracey Ullman - Breakaway is a fun if a bit cheap 60s cover. I am guessing the popularity of the good and lively Northern Soul sound helped it make the chart. The video has a TikTok style dance to it!
