September 3, 2025Sep 3 The Blood Records edition of Play was originally a 10k run, but was reduced to 5k after it didn’t sell out, and it’s still not sold out (currently at 3600). Maybe ed sheeran fans don’t buy from blood records but I can’t see this reaching 100k
September 4, 2025Sep 4 Here's how Ed's albums from the 2020s performed in the first week:=139,107 - Total78,263 - CDs25,286 - Streaming19,294 - Downloads11,644 - Vinyl4,620 - Cassettes-76,263 - Total41,122 - CDs14,255 - Streaming8,124 - Vinyl7,792 - Downloads4,970 - Cassettes'Autumn Variations'30,016 - Total16,027 - CDs6,121 - Vinyl5,680 - Streaming2,188 - Downloads--Format breakdown:CDs:78,263 (56.26%) =41,122 (53.92%) -16,027 (53.39%) Autumn VariationsVinyl:11,644 (8.37%) =8,124 (10.65%) -6,121 (20.39%) Autumn VariationsStreaming:25,286 (18.18%) =14,255 (18.69%) -5,680 (18.92%) Autumn VariationsDownloads:19,294 (13.87%) =7,792 (10.22%) -2,188 (7.29%) Autumn VariationsCassettes:4,620 (3.32%) =4,970 (6.52%) ---Ed's been consistent with contribution from CDs, with over half of the first week sales coming from that format. Perhaps that will continue with Play? Streaming contribution has also remained remarkably consistent.Vinyl has never been his strongest suit (although to be fair, all three of these albums reached #1 in the vinyl chart). Interestingly the percentage contribution from vinyl has increased with every release. Considering how his previous albums have performed on vinyl, it is surprising that his team/Blood Records anticipated that level of demand for a picture disc!Personally I would be surprised if Ed can't at least match or slightly exceed '-', so I'm imagining 80,000 minimum. Now that I've said that with confidence, watch it come no where close
September 4, 2025Sep 4 I have gone 80-100k. Given the pre-sale for the two UK December arena tour dates are provided to those who have pre-ordered the album (through Amazon), that will no doubt encourage more people to buy a copy.
September 4, 2025Sep 4 I dont know whether I've under estimated but I went 60k-80k, thinking the top end (76k ish)
September 4, 2025Sep 4 I'd expect similar to '-' so 60-80k. Despite the two long-running Top 10 hits, I'm not sure the singles as a whole have convinced many more people to buy / stream the album than 'Eyes Closed' did. Maybe the tour pre-sales will push it above 80k, but 100k seems a bit of a stretch.
September 12, 2025Sep 12 surprised to see so many <100k predictions, i feel like he should be passing that easily? 😂 considering the last album where he was chasing the fast food pop hits opened with 140k
September 12, 2025Sep 12 Author Yep, the poll is now closed and the results are that out of the 57 voters, only 11 predict that it will open with >100k (of whom @Dobbo is the sole voter who thinks it will open with 200k!)
September 12, 2025Sep 12 If chart history has taught us anything it's never to underestimate Ed! Also if Coldplay can do it...
September 12, 2025Sep 12 There doesn’t seem to be much hype and the singles didn’t exactly hit the lofty heights of his previous records so I’d be extremely surprised if he did anywhere near 100k.
September 16, 2025Sep 16 Author So based on the mids it seems most of Buzzjack were correct to vote for less than 100k I clearly overestimated him!
September 16, 2025Sep 16 Like its still possible with his pop up shops etc but highly unlikely, its more which 16 are right 🤣
September 16, 2025Sep 16 Jade's apparently added 5k in 24 hours so it wouldn't be unreasonable for Ed to do similar or more
September 19, 2025Sep 19 Either the 16 people who voted 60k-80k are right, or the 16 people who voted 80k-100k are right
September 19, 2025Sep 19 Just now, DanielCarey said:Either the 16 people who voted 60k-80k are right, or the 16 people who voted 80k-100k are rightI’d guess he’s on 68k or so!
September 19, 2025Sep 19 Yeah going by his progress since monday 60k-80k seems more likely, suprised that it couldn't match subtracts sales at least if true
September 19, 2025Sep 19 Author So 67,654 in the end. Considerably lower than I was expecting but well done to the 16 of you who went for 60-80k!
