Imagine if they didn't,

Yeah that explains it since I don't listen to britpop

Do you listen to rap? Have you heard of Jay-Z?

Do you listen to soul? Have you heard of Aretha Franklin?

Etc

So could Olivia Dean be denied a #1 on Friday because Spotify data is missing?

I really doubt Spotify data would go MIA for an entire week. I wonder if they would have to publicly acknowledge it if it did though... (probably not)

Not necessarily wasn't she still 10k down with over a million more spotify streams last week, plus golden has , original, Guetta, French, Spanish, instrumental, acapella and singalong versions

I don't think they're on the same level as Aretha Franklin. And yes I love both those genres

You’ve not heard of Suede? They’re one of the bands that began Brit Pop!!

I'm pretty sure they are actually THE band that inspired the term "Britpop"!

You are correct, they are not on the same level. Suede already have three more UK number 1 albums than Aretha Franklin and three more top 10 singles too.

I think the point being people can have heard of a band without being into the genre

To be Fair, Suedehead or their career doesn't exactly jump to the lips of your average music lover

Been working my way through listening to all these great new album releases this week. Would recommend Suede, Shame, Saint Etienne and Big Thief.

But especially the wonderful Hot Chip ‘best of’ (glad some artists are still doing this in the streaming era). Banger after banger, one of the most consistently great bands of the last 20+ years.

I know that but Suede is not like Oasis etc who i haven't listened to but obviously know. Its okay to not know everybody.

Suedehead lol now you're getting the band mixed up with a Buzzjack member (and a Morrissey song)

Suede are obviously iconic to me, one of their albums was the first I ever bought at the age of 9 and I've seen them live twice but I can easily see how they'd be unknown to a casual younger music fan.

Tbf i only vaguely heard of suede myself, but as a 90s kid britpop was really my genre, like i knew who oasis and blur were but until a few years ago id of only been able to mention the humongous inescapable hits for them either

As a kid my genres were bubblegum pop and cheese hits like Hanson, aqua, vengaboys bwitched, steps sclub etc etc so I get why people might not of heard or know of suede

I find online discussion around music is very US-centric nowadays so if you weren't around during the 90s it's likely you wouldn't be familiar with Suede as most people just ignore them when talking about 90s popular music - out of the Britpop big 4 they were the last band I discovered.

Very interesting (not really) that without Spotify data, Greatest Hits albums (unless by artists with a higher profile atm due to song releases (Ed) or touring (Oasis)) have taken relatively big dips...

Some pretty major dips for Taylor Swift too! Particularly folklore, last week midweek #46 but out this week.

Also, I will never understand how people get their backs up about other people not hearing about certain other artists or things in general before… so what if Username284773 hasn't heard of someone who was in their peak 30+years ago… like, why does it matter? If they’ve not come across them before, there’s probably a reason for that (i.e. their tastes align somewhere else and/or they’ve just not come across them - especially for the younger members)

Honestly, I’m not sure that I have heard a Suede song in my life. If I have, it’ll probably be one of those songs I’ve heard before but just never realised it was them etc… (it checks out too coz I am not a Brit-Pop/that era of “indie” fan at all (Oasis, Blur, Pulp, Morrissey et al))

Also, I think they need to be forgotten if they really are the ones to have “inspired” the brit-pop term or whatever!!!!!!!!

Out of interest, who are you classing as the Britpop big 4? Oasis, Blur, Suede and... Pulp?
