scenes when Alexa gets Kylie a Christmas #1 and Buzzjack doesn't know whether to get excited cos it's Kylie or annoyed cos it's Alexa and the song wouldn't be top 10 on a level playing field

  • How did she feel about that?

  • Gaga is coming... And when this one finally goes viral on TikTok... Mariah, pack your bags!

Now that would be an interesting christmas number 1 Eminem 🤔

Get "Fuel" from his latest album to number 1 amidst the anti-Diddy stuff going on currently!

Wouldn't mind Temporary or somebody save me either 🙌

One of these years there should be a big push to get Brenda there!

Although given that The Pogues didn't even come close following Shane's death a couple of years ago, I think we're stuck with Wham! for the foreseeable (unless there's a rule change).

I'd love Brenda to make it one year and I think she could easily in a couple of years if they time a CD single and 7" right. It seems to be climbing year on year.

I don't get the anti Last Christmas sentiment. Every penny it has ever made has gone to charity since its release in 1984 and that still remains the case today. It will have made millions and has all gone to good causes. It is the most popular song at this time of year so I don't get why anyone would have any issue with it being number 1 again.

I love Last Christmas, but i would love Kylie to get a number 1 too

I was thinking about this the other day how things that always seem like they will last forever never do in the end. Like X Factor getting the No.1 every single year (at Christmas or just before) until it just stopped and Louisa Johnson out of nowhere only peaked at No.9. LadBaby was clearly running out of steam by Food Aid too and they knew it, no way they'd have got a sixth No.1 if they'd gone for it.

Growing up in the 90s all I ever heard about was Slade and Wizzard (with Band Aid, The Pogues, Shaky and Bing Crosby on the sidelines), then in the late 00s and early 10s it was always Mariah vs The Pogues (with Wham!, Wizzard and Slade trailing behind) and it seemed unfathomable to think this would ever change.

But then the streaming era and I suppose George Michael's untimely death pushed Wham! up to be the top UK favourite but I still wouldn't necessarily expect this to last forever. I'm not sure if the younger generations coming up now will have Wham! as their favourite forever more, I wouldn't be surprised if Kelly Clarkson overtakes it within a decade as that and Ariana's will be the childhood Christmas songs young adults of that time will have grown up with, and we already see these two growing year by year. I guess in their favour though, Wham! are unlikely to be knocked down the Americanised playlists as they had the advantage of being popular in the US, unlike many other British favourites. So we'll see what happens, but certainly I think it will get closer between the top faves in the next few years.

It's an interesting point, I don't think Whamaggedon will last forever either, but it's a case of how much longer. 2 years? 5 years? 10 years? I also agree something like Ariana or Kelly will start becoming more popular for exactly the reasons you specified. The problem is that the curated playlists would have to change for there to be a tangible shift, and I can't see that happening for a good few years yet.

XMAS by Kylie now reduced to 69p on Amazon and 59p on her stores. Keep downloading everyone!!

Well done Brenda.

Brenda Lee - Rockin' around the Christmas tree - MCA - Platinum 5x - 2004

I added polls to the thread! Vote for who you think will be #1, and who you want to be #1.

I have a good feeling Kylie will pull it off so I went with her for the first poll, and I also really want it to be!

I think Wham will pip Kylie at the post on Friday but hope she wins out for the sake of the Christmas no1!

Would like it to be the Lullabye song as it sounds quite lovely imo.

I think Wham! will do it come Friday but I'm praying Kylie pulls it off.

She's doing well but Amazon Exclusives fall off a cliff streaming wise come the end of the week (Although she is up to 3 so I'm hoping she's doing decent numbers)

I guess getting closer to Christmas would probably mean less of a drop off.

But then I guess the same can be said of Wham! too

The thing is, Kylie currently has a lead of 7000. And Wham! are currently getting 7000 a day. They didn’t significantly eat into her lead yesterday (250 I think) - basing this on what we know about both Sunday and Monday. As some of this 7000 is from Amazon, the most they will catch up by on Friday will be say 4000-5000.

So if Kylie can maintain her lead, she should be able to make Number 1. Today’s figure should be crucial though, as today is the one day that Wham! will significantly catch up as they will have weekend streaming added whereas Kylie won’t. I have a feeling that’s why the extended version was added yesterday, to make up for that.

And you know that Kylie’s team always has a way of pulling through at the last minute.

Isn't some of the streaming for weekend already included in Whams figures?

I think with Kylie’s loyal fanbase and the physicals and downloads Kylie will take the number one.
