From time to time, we all recycle each other's artists in search of the next big hit. Sometimes it is merely a copy and paste exercise, and other times it could be a form of redemption for a bad result for the artist the first (or second) time around.

Which BJSC nations have you recycled the most in your nation's history? What has been the general outcome? Was it a good idea to recycle in search of success, or a bad idea hoping to better the previous result for that artist?

It may take some working out, but I decided it was a worthwhile exercise to do for my own nation in light of the prospect of recycling another artist for this current BJSC, so I took a moment to reflect on the past, and here are Zanmatony's most recycled nations;

So as things stand, it is Thelonia who are Zanmatony's most recycled nation, with three of their past artists being represented once again in the contest, with two achieving better peaks the second time around.

I guess it is a handy insight into certain trends and similarities in tastes when you look at which other nations have entered artists you might consider in the future. Also, several artists that Zanmatony have entered have been entered again by other nations too which is also noteworthy as it seems that we have selected a wide range of artists in the past from various genres and eras. The most recycled artist Zanmatony sent first is split between ABSOLUTE., Louis The Child, Metrik and Yellow Claw.

Erin LeCount, Active Child and Empress Of (as a feature) were very successful recycles, the rest finished outside of the top 10 but did all still qualify.

On the flip side, I DNQed with Moonchild Sanelly but she is the most common Jadakissnia recycle!

Oh yes, I forgot to add this detail in for myself, so Zanmatony's most recycled artist is Louis The Child!

I also try not to recycle unless it's an artist I sent first (Mira Craig, Sheelah, Dodie, DJ Sabrina) but I've had a couple this year. I think Sandenia sent Lozeak previously and Skall sent God Colony - think those are my only recycles of the last three years of other nations' acts and neither lit up the scoreboard first time out.

The only potential recycle I cannot reliably verify is whether Haley from b.i.g.s.h.r.i.m.p's In Private is the same Haley as the one from Project 46's Stars. If so that would put Aeroche as standalone first.

This was a very interesting list, had no idea I ever recycled Danæviia but apparently it is the same artist. No more than 2 recycles in either list is cool and there were a handful of artist that appeared in both.

I've rarely recycled as I prefer to avoid it, and I've rarely been recycled.

I've put far, far more time into trying to research this one specific question than I would like to admit!

(not because of this post, I've just wondered it myself before when updating my spreadsheets - I'm pretty certain it's not the same person but the Haley from 'In Private' seems to be pretty much untraceable, all I've managed to find is what I assume is an old Instagram handle of hers that now doesn't exist. The Haley from 'Stars' is Haley Gibby who is probably best known for being the uncredited vocalist on deadmau5's 'I Remember', fun fact x)

I'll post an actual reply to this thread in a bit but aside from recycling my own BROCKHAMPTON for my 100th anniversary entry I've gone out of my way to avoid recycling artists for a long time so it's a short list composed only of my very old entries (although Minuit Machine was an accidental recycle of sorts as one of the members had previously been sent as a solo artist by Jadakissnia (Hante.) - if I'd realised that at the time I wouldn't have sent it lol but it went on to be one of my biggest hits of recent years which takes some of the ~shame~ off x). Might be interesting to look into the list of countries who have recycled my artists though!

Untraceable yeah that's absolutely bang on the money. I have a few entrants that also fall under that bracket like Accessjak & luna.moon which were real headaches to search for.

I genuinely don't think there's anything wrong with recycling, artists change and often improve, why not give them another shot? I'm buzzing when I see a previous artist of mine representing another country, I take it as though I've inspired some taste 🤭
