It spent 8 weeks at number one in the UK, making it the biggest-seller of 1969 and the joint longest-running number one of the decade. It had been knocked down to number 3 for Christmas 1969. One of the catchiest pop songs ever, shame it or Kenny Rogers (also a great song) couldn't quite get Christmas number one...

This still has the record for the most weeks at #1 by an animated band in the UK not blooming HUNTR/X. Justice for 'Sugar Sugar'.

The piano ballad "Changes" was first included on Black Sabbath's album Vol 4 and marked a change from their usual metal style. 30 years later their lead singer Ozzy and his family had become reality TV stars thanks to the success of The Osbournes. Ozzy's daughter Kelly was seeking a career in music like her father so Ozzy offered to duet with her on a rewritten version of "Changes" in the hopes of giving her career a boost. Following a quad bike accident in which Ozzy almost lost his life, support for the single surged and it became his first and only number one single. It was knocked down to number 3 for Christmas 2003 but sold well across the 2003-04 festive period, ending 2003 as its 7th biggest-selling single as well as being the 35th biggest-seller of 2004. I always thought this was a bit rubbish (I cannot take Kelly singing "I love you daddy" seriously) but seeing the family man side of Ozzy shine on this single is very sweet following his death in July.

This and Mad World must have been the most depressing Christmas Top 2 but they're both great, Ozzy he swore at the Canadian Grand Prix gridwalk with Martin Brundle in June of that year and then gets an #1 six months later. Then he's behind The Darkness. Much missed The Prince of Darkness.

Romanian twin sisters Gabriela and Monica auditioned together for the show but did not make it past the audition stage. They were received well by viewers however and were quickly signed as the Cheeky Girls. "The Cheeky Song" was their debut release, entering the charts 2 weeks before Girls Aloud and One True Voice's rival singles. This theme song featured the King’s Singers and the Choir Of St Paul’s Cathedral as the frog chorus. Choirs With Purpose did a 2017 version with Buzzjack icon Michelle McManus in a bid for the Christmas #1, but it missed the Top 100.

The Frog Chorus was better than The Cheeky Girls offering, I think Rupert The Bear would have been scared of Paul McCartney.

Landing behind another iconic Christmas Top 2 was this Comic Relief single. Mel Smith was a comedian and TV presenter and here teamed up with English singer Kim Wilde. They called themselves Mel & Kim as a parody of the sisterly duo who were popular at the time. At this point Brenda Lee’s original only had a #6 peak - as of last week of course the two versions have the same peak.

Be warned the music video does contain an reference to disgraced Rolf Harris, but it is far better than Denise and Johnny's 'Especially For You'.

My festive counterpart, Slade, are the first double-figure loss from my votes. The electric violin is striking on that song!

Side note if Britney gets a number one this decade she will be the first female artist to have number ones in 4 consecutive decades!

One that I listened to a lot when it came out seldom in recent years losing to one of the good winners single until James Arthur caused controversy and ripped off The Script. The #1 though was for Hillsborough.

This duet between Bing and David was recorded for Bing's Christmas special Bing Crosby's Merrie Old Christmas in September 1977, a month before he passed away. Bing sings the traditional song "Little Drummer Boy" while David sings an original song written by the show's team called "Peace On Earth". The original intention was for both to sing "Little Drummer Boy" together but David disliked the song and wished to sing something else, resulting in "Peace On Earth" being written. 5 years after Bing's death, the duet was finally released as a single. It climbed into the top 3 for Christmas 1982, making it Bing's joint highest-charting single in the UK alongside the previously mentioned "Isle Of Innisfree". It has become a firm festive favourite despite only charting once since its original run.

One of the most unlikely collaborations in music history losing out to the awful 'Save Your Love' losing to Shaky wouldn't have been bad though.

Inspired by T. Rex's "Hot Love", "Coz I Luv You" was the single that cemented Slade as one of the most successful acts of the 70s in the UK. Initially the group felt the song was too soft so added hand claps and foot stomps to make it more "Slade-ish". It was the first of their many songs to use a misspelt title, and first of their 6 number one hits. It spent 4 weeks at the top before spending 3 weeks at number 3 across the festive period. Despite its success the group weren't very keen on the song, calling it "a pile of sh*t" and being surprised when it hit the top, but I think it's one of their best efforts!

An great song from Slade the first of my votes to go, 'My Oh My' was a great #2, 'Merry Xmas Everybody' though the Christmas classic.

A number 4 hit in the US in 1964, this bizarre surf rock song is a medley of two songs by R&B group The Rivingtons, "The Bird's The Word" and "Papa-Oom-Mow-Mow". The Trashmen noticed the similarities between the two songs and played them back to back at their gigs, recording a single version after it won a battle of the bands competition. 45 years later, it became a running joke in the hit animated sitcom Family Guy, in which it is the favourite song of leading man Peter Griffin, leading to a huge resurgence in popularity and it charting for the first time in the UK in 2009. A Facebook group hoped to push it to number 1 for Christmas 2010 as an X Factor protest, however it did not make nearly as much of a buzz as Rage Against The Machine the previous year and could only manage number 3.
