Ok decided to very quickly slap a list together for this again. I know I tutted on SyncTube earlier at the idea of a tactical +30 but I found there was a song that was very near the top of my ranking that, from what I can see, only has one previous vote so... why not, let's put the finger on the scale for a jungle classic xx (I think it'd be about my +26 otherwise, I'm not totally sure 'Guilt' will be safe either but I'm not going to comb through the votes again for that, I just figured it was unlikely 'Incredible' would have got many votes at all).

As ever I reserve the right for my votes in later rounds to only roughly resemble this list.

+30 Incredible

+29 Smack My Bitch Up

+28 Guilt

+27 Back To Black

+26 Fade To Grey

+25 The Pretender

+24 I Miss You

+23 Smooth Criminal

+22 In The End

+21 Live Forever

+20 Sultans Of Swing

+19 Enola Gay

+18 Bad Habit

+17 Untouched

+16 Family Affair

+15 Sk8er Boi

+14 Violet Hill

+13 The Irish Rover

+12 Hounds Of Love

+11 Yesterday [The Beatles, not Matt Monro, obvz]

+10 Bat Out Of Hell

+9 PATT (Party All The Time)

+8 One Love

+7 Star Guitar

+6 Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'

+5 Rent

+4 Trap Queen

+3 Lovelight

+2 Love Story (Vs. Finally)

+1 Ooh Stick You! Hotel California

VOTING HAS NOW CLOSED Thanks to the 40 people who voted. The results will start this evening.

  • Having a slice of toast while watching the evening news in honour. “I Hear You Now” was a gorgeous discovery at the 80s hit sessions, but I couldn’t quite fit it into my votes.

Hotel California is a bit of an overrated song IMO, you should have given it to Daphne & Celeste D

After voting I was freaked out when I watched Tron Ares the next evening and Depeche Mode was mentioned with chart position!

Bit gutted not many have voted for Song 4 Mutya, hope it gets through, I love it so much.

Chas and Dave - Rabbit

Diplo & Sleepy Tom - Be Right There

The Rattles - The Witch

The Reynolds Girls - I'd Rather Jack

Nini Rosso - Il Silenzio

Endor - Pump It Up

The Reynolds Girls would rather jack than Fleetwood Mac. They also mention they don't want to listen to Dire Straits who have outscored them in this poll. I know Il Silenzio now as it came up on my 'record of the week 60 years ago' thread a few months ago. I gave the trumpet led instrumental a good review. The Witch from 1970 was the only hit for German group The Rattles and from ten years later, we have Chas & Dave's iconic Rabbit.

'I'd Rather Jack' is iconic, if only they knew how popular Fleetwood Mac were now on the streaming chart! They call out heavy metal too as dated but soon after Iron Maiden would have a #1 single lol.

'Be Right There' the loudest of the metallic knocking on bin-lids future house phase. Funny because such loudness to wake you up came from someone called 'Sleepy Tom'. I do like the song a bit though.

Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick and Tich - Last Night In Soho

Depeche Mode - I Feel You

Lonyo - Summer Of Love

Mansun - I Can Only Disappoint U

Toyah - I Want To Be Free

U2 - Even Better Than The Real Thing (Paul Oakenfold Remix)

Kanye West - Diamonds From Sierra Leone

Starting with that screeching noise, this was the lead single from Songs Of Faith And Devotion. A later single from the album is still to come as well as one of Depeche Mode's earlier songs. Last Night In Soho was the last of eight top 10 hits for Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick and Tich. Toyah is here with I Want To Be Free which was sandwiched in 1981 by two number 4 hits, It's A Mystery (from an EP) and Thunder In The Mountains. 90s singer Kele Le Roc still has another song left in.

I much prefer the album version of 'Even Better Than The Real Thing' which reached #12, but had to give U2 some points nonetheless - Achtung Baby is their best album for me.

Toyah and Kanye (+Shirley Bassey) songs the best of that bunch for me. I like some Depeche Mode but I Feel You is a bit too cool and indie for me!

Bucks Fizz - Now Those Days Are Gone

Good Charlotte - Lifestyles Of The Rich And Famous

Mimi Webb - Good Without

After two number 1 singles, Bucks Fizz released this delicate ballad with more than a minute of a cappella before any music comes in. Mike Nolan sings the lead vocal. From much later on, Good Without was the first of two top 10 hits so far for Mimi Webb. There are two Goods on three points as Good Charlotte appear with their single from 2002.

That Bucks Fizz song sounds influential for Flying Pickets! It also sounds very Carpenters.

And Mimi Webb! What a throwback! Remember her?! I prefer her more upbeat pop songs.

Lifestyles Of The Rich And Famous came close to a point from me but I felt like I had given out too many points to other 00s rocks songs 😁

Unfortunately overlooked this thread. "I Feel You" and "I Want To Be Free" are my favourites so far.

I Can Only Disappoint U is a decent effort from Mansun, although it's been largely forgotten about so I'm not surprised it didn't get many votes.

George Ezra - Hold My Girl

The Four Tops - Bernadette

Michael Jackson - In The Closet

Ian Van Dahl - Reason

Mari Wilson - Just What I Always Wanted

Just What I Always Wanted is one of the catchiest pop songs from 1982. Mari Wilson is not to be confused with Meri Wilson who reached number 6 in 1977 with Telephone Man. The Jackson family have ten number 8 singles between them even though Janet has none. Nine received votes with Ain't No Sunshine by Michael from 1972 the only one that was overlooked. In The Closet is the first one to leave. From 1967, Bernadette was the third top 10 hit for The Four Tops.

That's a bit of a 60s nostalgia style tune from Mari Wilson!

Reason is a good song but very of its time production-wise! Might have gave it a few points but forgot to put it in my votes as it wasn't on the #8's spotify playlist.

Lots of songs there that I considered for points. Notably:

I’d Rather Jack

I Can Only Disappoint U

Good Without

But there were just so many great songs!

I guess we are all wondering which of our songs will be the first to go. From my list, I think it will be Pebbles ‘Girlfriend’.

We played the Bucks Fizz song on the 1982 Synctube session yesterday and someone mentioned it sounded like The Carpenters so you are not the only one who thinks that.

I’ve never heard it before, just played it and it is very Carpenters. I approve!
