From a scale of like matto to Brer 😄

Just figured I'd open this up for anyone potentially interested as a few days ago in the confirmations thread I got a bit reflective and open about my ways of trying to remember which song is which etc. Despite being fun, it can feel overwhelming at times.

I mostly enjoy the contest, the random observations people make as well as being involved in unexpected interesting discussions. I randomly remember certain moments and songs, especially my favourites from over the years.

But in general I still tend to feel like a fish out of water when it comes to remembering which songs placed where, my own votes, or even some winners etc. Ofc there's been a lot of contests and entries but still. Interested to hear others' thoughts!

I should do a deep-dive on the new BJSC wiki page!

I feel like I have pretty encyclopaedic knowledge of my first couple of years in the contest, can remember the most random details like... the formatting of BJSC 83 containing purple and green heart emojis, but my knowledge has clearly slipped over the years, as I thought an act in the latest edition of Best Song Contest In The World...Ever! was completely new to me, but turns out I'd given them 12 in a BJSC semi before 💀

So definitely not as good as it once was, but generally passable and I won't be forgetting anything about my own 179 contest any time soon

I feel like my medium-term memory is awful. Everything would come back to me quite quickly after seeing the results of any given contest but I'd struggle to recall most winners or most of my own entries from, say, 2023, let alone further back.

I don't consider myself super knowledgeable, except maybe for the songs that I've voted for. I don't pay enough attention to the results sometimes, and if a song wins that I didn't vote for I'm probably going to forget about it shortly after. That said, I do revisit a lot of my faves from over the years, so I have some knowledge, just not in terms of where a certain song placed.

I don't even remember all of my own entries. Its only a matter of time before I try and resubmitsomething I already sent...

I used to have encylopaedic knowledge of this contest. I'd know when a song was entered, the general records of nations beyond their current Q streaks, how each non qualifier sounded months after the initial contest.

Now I regularly forget about the existence of artists that got a top 10 hit 3 contests ago, which normally becomes apparent at listenthroughs when their future winner is playing.

I'm like Jade in that I have near encyclopaedic knowledge of my first few years in the contest (it was back in the days of MP3s so still have a lot of them in my library), that gradually tapered off and now, with contests coming so quickly and having to balance day to day adult life around it, I forget the majority of songs after the contest is finished, even those I pointed, though I do store my own entries on a playlist so I never forget them.

This is me, I'm absolutely useless with it these days. If you asked me now to recall songs from the contests last year I'd struggle to name more than about 20 in total I think - and I'd be even worse at previous years!

There's a huge amount of the winners I can't recall at all as well, generally if I didn't really like them then I'm none the wiser (as proved this month 😂)

Matto, you're Mastermind specialist subject compared to me.

I dont even remember the order in which I entered some of my entries. I know which ones qualified.

As far as other people's entries I know that Spark did well. I know that Dr Blind entered a Kate Bush sounding lady that I was very impressed with but I can't remember her name now. I can only name one winner and that was Fat Dog's King of the Slug. I know that Kath sends dance bangers and that Rich likes spoken word.

I honestly don't retain any other information. It's no surprise that I don't do well 😄
