Agreed, loved loads of the stuff I came across, but competitive it is not.

There's loads of brilliant obscure/lesser known stuff in every year - it's just very difficult to come across them with a deadline unless you already know them! I had 3 candidates for my year (even if there was a year I didn't want to get and it was this one 😄) and in the end went for the one that sounded best to me still. I'm in it to try and win it...😇

If this were one giant game of poker, I'd have not far off of a 7-2 off-suit hand (and you can't even bluff here) but I like a challenge and now I'm mainly here for the discoveries with this edition.

I had several options already from albums I already knew by artists I already like (already x3) but nothing felt satisfying enough for this contest so I wanted to specifically do a search too, and made several good new discoveries - went with one of them.

Whatever year you have something fabulous will have been released somewhere that never took off in the UK charts. The hard part is finding it.

Not sure if you tried it already but why not google ‘AOTY best albums of (year)’ and scan through them on Spotify? (Unless you’ve got a dud year like 1960 then of course switch )
