So I put Tame Impala’s Dracula at number 1 for 3 weeks last year on my personal chart, it’s still charting coming up to 30 weeks.

But, I do love the recent success it’s had due to the Jennie remix. So, should I do a new entry for the remix? Does anyone else chart a remix and the original?

Never had this chart dilemma before! Help.

I do a new entry for a remix though I'd only chart one version of the song at one time

  • I just combine them, as the charts would. Especially where the version is very similar to the original, as the Jennie remix of Dracula is.

  • I guess it depends on what version you’re actually listening to?

I have always combined mixes personally to avoid duplicate entries of the same song e.g. DJ Sammy's Heaven in 2002 I listened to both the radio version and Candlelight mix an equal amount but combined the entry. In the case you mention, I'd probably do the same.

However, if I dislike an original version and only like a remix/feature, I will specify the version that I like. But I never did multiple entries of the same song in different versions.

I don't remember ever having two versions of the same song separately when I used to do personal charts. I don't think it's any different to a version featuring an artist for the single release back in 2010 or something (e.g. JLS in the album and JLS feat. Tinie Tempah for the single).

So I believe would combine as well? (Coming from someone who hasn't made personal charts for years so I don't think my memory is that vivid, with a possibility of deceiving)

Edit: I guess you could give the remix a separate chart run if you like.

For multichart purposes, only one instance of 'Dracula' will appear, encompassing where people have charted either the original or the remix, but we can only take one instance from each person's chart. I don't recall seeing two versions of the same song appearing in anyone's chart before, but if there were, we would count only the higher charting version.

3 years ago, I discarded and had never charted the original "Miracle" (the successful version) since Hardwell's Remix (my favorite one) came out, which means I also reset the week count. And for MC purposes, I greyed out the irrelevant elements like this:

05 Calvin Harris, Ellie Goulding - Miracle (Hardwell Remix)

But some people still merge the week count when there is another variant they preferered more, so it's up to you to decide. happy

Thanks for the replies! I think I will remove the original from my chart and start a new one with the remix - that way only one is charting and I won’t get confused!

Mainly Jennie to be fair!

For me, I combine them and classify the remix as a new entry on my individual chart (with its own chart run - this has recently happened with:

  • PinkPantheress - Stateside (solo, Kylie, and Zara versions all spent some time as my favourite version) 06/06/2025, 17/10/2025, 31/10/2025, PP-S EOY 2025

  • Kesha - BOY CRAZY. (The JADE version replaced the original so in the week it climbed into the Top 10, it was listed as both a new entry (for the JADE version) and a dropout (for the original)) 11/07/2025, K-BC EOY 2025

I combine their points and chart run for YTD/all time purposes and just change the artist credit on my points tracking dataset to whichever my favourite version ends up being.

The above two examples were eventually changed:

  • from Kesha - BOY CRAZY. to Kesha feat. JADE - BOY CRAZY.

  • from PinkPantheress - Stateside to PinkPantheress & Zara Larsson - Stateside (it was never changed to Kylie as that version only charted for two weeks)

The JENNIE version of 'Dracula' is a new chart entry for me this week, but it has been added to the overall charting history of the solo version - I will change it if the JENNIE version outlasts the original on my chart!

I combine them if they're charting at the same time, but give the remix it's own run if the original had already dropped off the chart.

I was a bit indecisive about this in the past but settled on combining them in my personal chart!

The Weeknd's 'Save Your Tears' made #1 twice for me, both in solo form and again with the Ariana remix, its run looking like this:

24-36-xx-05-02-01-02-05-08-15-18-35-36-37-37-xx-01-01-01-01-05-06-11-24-33-39

Album track -> solo single push -> remix single push trajectory *.*
